Background: The clinical outcome of ureteral obstruction secondary to gastric cancer remains unclear. The present study was designed to evaluate the clinical outcome and predictive factors of survival in patients with ureteral obstruction secondary to gastric cancer.

Methods: Twenty-five consecutive patients with ureteral obstruction secondary to gastric cancer between January 1998 and December 2007 were retrospectively analyzed.

Gender differences in coronary plaque characteristics in patients with stable angina: a virtual histology intravascular ultrasound study.

The purpose of this study was to compare culprit coronary plaque characteristics between female and male patients with stable angina using virtual histology intravascular ultrasound (VH-IVUS). The target population consisted of three hundred and sixty-four consecutive patients with stable angina who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) after VH-IVUS. The baseline characteristics and VH-IVUS results were compared between 72 female and 292 male patients.

Solitary fibrous tumor of the abdominal wall.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are uncommon neoplasms of mesenchymal origin that usually arise from the pleura. SFTs of the abdominal wall are extremely rare, and only 12 cases have been reported in the English language literature. This report presents a new case of SFT of the abdominal wall in a 74-year-old female.

[Urethrovesical foreign body in adolescent boys: report of two cases].

Two cases with a urethrovesical foreign body in adolescent boys are reported. Case 1 was a 12-year-old boy with a stretched safety pin, 7 cm in length, in the urethra. This was probably introduced by him.

Methods: Between April 1997 and March 2006, 38 consecutive patients with malignant biliary obstruction caused by metastatic gastric cancer were retrospectively analyzed.

[Leiomyoma of the spermatic cord: a case report].

A 65-year-old man had a painless mass, 30 mm in diameter, in the left scrotum. MR imaging demonstrated that the mass had low intensity in both T1-weighted and T2-weighted images. A poor enhancing effect was observed.

Background: A phase I/II study of docetaxel (DOC) and gemcitabine (GEM) combination for treatment-resistant ovarian cancer (OC) was conducted.

Materials And Methods: Eligible patients exhibited recurrent OC within 12 months after initial treatment, or after more than 2 chemotherapy regimens. Planned dose levels (DL) were as follows: DOC 70 mg/m(2), GEM 800 mg/m(2) (DL1); DOC 70 mg/m(2), GEM 1000 mg/m(2) (DL2).

The relationship between nocturnal polyuria and the distribution of body fluid: assessment by bioelectric impedance analysis.

Purpose: Increased nocturnal urinary volume is closely associated with nocturia. We investigated the relationship between nocturnal polyuria and the variation of body fluid distribution during the daytime using bioelectric impedance analysis.

Materials And Methods: A total of 34 men older than 60 years were enrolled in this study.

[Surgical treatment of intrarcranial dural arteriovenous fistulas].

Surgical treatment is indicated in patients who present clinical symptoms for intracranial dural arteriovenous fistula and retrograde cortical venous filling on cerebral angiography. Further, surgery is indicated in those patients that cannot be cured by endovascular procedures. For dural arteriovenous fistulas in the anterior fossa, tentorium, craniovertebral junction or convex, surgery was considered as the first option.

Acute gastric dilatation causing bacterial cerebral aneurysm--case report.

[A case of multiple bone metastases from gastric cancer treated with combination chemotherapy of S-1 and CDDP].

We report a case of multiple bone metastases from gastric cancer treated with combination chemotherapy of S-1 and CDDP. A 54-year-old man underwent distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer (Stage II) in March 2003. Multiple bone metastases complicated with DIC were diagnosed in September 2005.

Intra-articular angioleiomyoma of the knee: a case report.

We report a rare case of angioleiomyoma that occurred in the intra-articular portion of the knee joint. A 43-year-old female was referred to us with a 3-year history of recurrent pain and a loss of full extension of the right knee. Physical examinations revealed swelling and restriction of active full extension.

[Prophylactic use of droperidol for postoperative nausea and vomiting following gynecological laparoscopic surgery under total intravenous anesthesia].

Background: Propofol and droperidol decrease the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). We investigated the incidence of PONV after total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) with propofol alone versus combined use of droperidol and propofol.

Methods: Eighty three patients, who had undergone laparoscopic gynecologic surgery with TIVA using propofol and fentanyl, were retrospectively evaluated whether droperidol had affected the incidence of early (up to six hours postoperatively) and late (6-24 hours postoperatively) PONV.

Lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) arising in the parotid gland.

Malignant lymphoma of the parotid gland is a rare condition. The authors present the case of a 59-year-old woman with primary malignant lymphoma arising from the parotid gland, in which they resected the tumors and surrounding lymph nodes. Histopathologic examination of the tumor demonstrated a lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT).

[Postoperative intensive care of a patient with Cushing's syndrome accompanied with retroperitoneal abscess and massive subcutaneous emphysema].

A 60-year-old woman with Cushing's syndrome due to right adreno-cortical adenoma was referred to us because retroperitoneal abscess was found during surgical removal of the right adrenal gland. The diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome was made on the basis of elevated serum levels of cortisol. The abscess was accompanied with massive subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum.

[Lung resections for lung cancer with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis].

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the postoperative complications after lung resections for lung cancer with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

Material And Methods: There were 23 patients who underwent lung resections for lung cancer with IPF. There were 8 major complications.

[Clinical efficacy of TS-1 combined with cisplatin for advanced cardiac gastric cancer with multiple liver metastases--two case reports].

Case 1: A 62-year-old man was introduced to our hospital for Type 1 cardiac gastric cancer. On the abdominal CT, there was evidence of multiple liver metastases. The patient was treated with daily oral administration of TS-1 (120 mg/day) for 3 weeks followed by 2 weeks' rest and infusion of CDDP (60 mg/m2) on day 8 as 1 course.
