Although the incidence of severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) to medications is very low, SCARs can result in disability or even death if they are not diagnosed and treated properly. As the rapid recognition of SCARs is essential, it is necessary to develop diagnostic markers for them that can also be used to assess severity and predict outcomes in the early phase. In addition, it is important to identify novel therapeutic targets for SCARs.

Compared to typically developing (TD) children, people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have an increased risk of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Exposure to ACEs is associated with adult ASD psychological comorbidities, such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Occurrence of intrusive event reexperiencing, characteristic of PTSD, often causes social dysfunction in adults with ASD, but its pathological basis is unclear.

Embolic stroke induced by rotational persistent 1st intersegmental artery compression.

A 45-year-old man suffered multiple cerebral infarctions in the vertebrobasilar artery territory, followed by second stroke against conservative treatment. Radiological examinations revealed intra-arterial defect in left persistent 1st intersegmental artery (PFIA) at C1 level, suggesting mural thrombus, and mechanical compression of left PFIA at the level with head rotation to the right clearly revealed by reconstructed 3-dimensional radiological images, but no findings of atlantoaxial instability. One month after the second stroke, posterior fixation was performed.

Acral persistent papular mucinosis: A case report and summary of 24 Japanese cases.

Acral persistent papular mucinosis is a rare subtype of localized lichen myxedematosus. We report a case of a 41-year-old woman with acral persistent papular mucinosis. She had a 5-year history of multiple, scattered, whitish papules, on the back of both hands, of 2-5 mm in diameter.

Aims: The aim of this study was to determine the clinicopathological and genetic characteristics of axillary signet-ring cell/histiocytoid carcinoma (SRCHC) and the relationship between axillary SRCHC, eyelid SRCHC, and conventional apocrine carcinoma (AC).

Methods And Results: Eleven cases of axillary SRCHC, four cases of eyelid SRCHC, eight cases of axillary AC and five cases of invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) were retrieved. Additionally, 14 axillary and 43 eyelid SRCHC cases from the literature were reviewed.

Background: It is vital to identify a surrogate last-known-well time to perform proper endovascular thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke; however, no established imaging biomarker can easily and quickly identify eligibility for endovascular thrombectomy and predict good clinical prognosis.

Objective: To investigate whether low relative diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) signal intensity can be used as a predictor of good clinical outcome after endovascular thrombectomy in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Methods: We retrospectively identified consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke who were treated with endovascular thrombectomy within 24 hours of the last-known-well time and achieved successful recanalization (modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction score ≥2b).

Pathogens can infect the intraocular space directly (exogenous endophthalmitis (ExE)) or indirectly (endogenous endophthalmitis (EnE)). To identify predictive factors for the visual prognosis of Japanese patients with bacterial endophthalmitis, we retrospectively examined the bacterial endophthalmitis characteristics of 314 Japanese patients and performed statistics using these clinical data.

Drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome/drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DIHS/DRESS) is a severe type of adverse drug eruption associated with multiorgan involvement and the reactivation of human herpesvirus 6, which arises after prolonged exposure to certain drugs. Typically, two waves of disease activity occur during the course of DIHS/DRESS; however, some patients experience multiple waves of exacerbation and remission of the disease. Severe complications, some of which are related to cytomegalovirus reactivation, can be fatal.

Safety of Combined Division vs Separate Division of the Splenic Vein in Patients Undergoing Distal Pancreatectomy: A Noninferiority Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: In distal pancreatectomy (DP), the splenic vein is isolated from the pancreatic parenchyma prior to being ligated and divided to prevent intra-abdominal hemorrhage from the splenic vein stump with pancreatic fistula (PF). Conversely, dissecting the splenic vein with the pancreatic parenchyma is easy and time-saving.

Background: The impact of body mass index on incidence of herpes zoster is unclear. This study investigated whether body mass index was associated with a history of herpes zoster and incidence during a 3-year follow-up, using data from a prospective cohort study in Japan.

Methods: In total, 12,311 individuals were included in the cross-sectional analysis at baseline, of whom 1,818 with a history of herpes zoster were excluded from the incidence analysis, leaving 10,493 individuals.
