Background: The status of cutaneous epithelioid angiomatous nodule (CEAN) as a distinct entity remains controversial. This study investigated the relationship between CEAN and epithelioid hemangioma/angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE).

Methods: Data of seven lesions with CEAN features from four cases (Cases 1-4: 61-year-old, 76-year-old, 53-year-old, and 21-year-old men, respectively) were investigated.

Cas9-guided haplotyping of three truncation variants in autosomal recessive disease.

An autosomal recessive disease is caused by biallelic loss-of-function mutations. However, when more than two disease-causing variants are found in a patient's gene, it is challenging to determine which two of the variants are responsible for the disease phenotype. Here, to decipher the pathogenic variants by precise haplotyping, we applied nanopore Cas9-targeted sequencing (nCATS) to three truncation COL7A1 variants detected in a patient with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (EB).

Background: The live attenuated varicella-zoster virus (VZV) vaccine is used for the prevention of chickenpox and herpes zoster; however, there have been few studies on the immunogenicity of intradermal vaccination.

Objective: To compare the immunogenicity between subcutaneous and intradermal VZV vaccination.

Methods: Thirty healthy participants aged 50-75 who developed erythema less than 10 mm in diameter in VZV skin test were examined.

Oropharyngeal symptoms without systemic reactions as a risk factor for food allergen intolerance: a longitudinal pediatric study.

Background: The determinants of tolerance to food allergens are not fully understood. We aimed to elucidate the longitudinal association between oropharyngeal symptoms without systemic reactions (OSw/oS) and tolerance to food allergens.

Methods: We included all patients diagnosed with single food allergy to egg (n = 121), milk (n = 55), and wheat (n = 41) using the oral food challenge test (OFC) from 2014 to 2017.

Unlabelled: Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is a rare and highly lethal tumor that arises from mesothelial tissue on the surface of the chest and abdominal cavity. Cytological examination of body fluids, including pleural fluid and ascites, is essential for the differentiation of malignant mesothelioma from other carcinomas, such as lung and gastrointestinal carcinomas and metastatic tumors. To evaluate the effectiveness of cell block preparation procedures, which are used for immunocytochemical staining and genetic panel analysis of tumor-specific gene mutations, we used various fixatives.

Association Between Postillumination Pupil Response and Glaucoma Severity: A Cross-Sectional Analysis of the LIGHT Study.

Purpose: This study determines whether the functional and structural severity of glaucoma is associated with intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cell (ipRGC) function.

Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed 148 eyes from 148 patients with glaucoma (mean age 70.5 years).

Effect of nighttime bedroom light exposure on mood episode relapses in bipolar disorder.

Objective: A previous cross-sectional study reported that nighttime light is associated with increased occurrence of manic symptoms in bipolar disorder; however, the longitudinal association between nighttime light and subsequent mood episode relapses remains unclear. We determined whether bedroom nighttime light was associated with mood episode relapses in patients with bipolar disorder.

Methods: This prospective cohort study included 172 outpatients with bipolar disorder who participated in an Association between the Pathology of Bipolar Disorder and Light Exposure in Daily Life (APPLE) cohort study.

A clinicopathologic and molecular analysis of five cases of bronchiolar adenoma with rare mutations.

Bronchiolar adenoma (BA) is a rare benign lung tumor that shows proliferation of bland bronchiolar-type epithelium containing a continuous layer of basal cells. This tumor entity has been newly added to the recent World Health Organization (WHO) classification 5th edition. This entity encompasses a spectrum of lesions: the classic ciliated muconodular papillary tumor (CMPT) and the non-classic CMPT.

[Sleep quality and mental well-being of mothers caring for children with disabilities and requiring oxygen therapy and night care at home].

Objectives　This study aimed to 1) determine what kind of care for children with disabilities is related to the mothers' sleep and mental well-being and 2) objectively measure the sleep state of mothers responsible for children with disabilities.Methods　A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 180 mothers of children enrolled in the Special Needs Education School in prefecture A. Amongst these, nine who provided consent underwent objective sleep measurements using actigraphy.

Short-wavelength light exposure at night and sleep disturbances accompanied by decreased melatonin secretion in real-life settings: a cross-sectional study of the HEIJO-KYO cohort.

Objectives: To determine the association between short-wavelength light exposure at night (LAN) power and sleep quality or melatonin levels in real-life settings.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study of 580 older adults (mean age, 71.0 years), we measured short-wavelength LAN power at cornea level using an originally developed light loggers over two nights.

[Impact of Irradiation Field Aperture Controller Settings on Patient-specific Quality Assurance].

Purpose: The aperture shape controller (ASC) is a tool on a radiation therapy planning system to reduce complexity by increasing the aperture size of multileaf collimator (MLC). The purposes of this study were to clarify the effect of the dose index on the treatment plan when the intensity of ASC is changed and then to clarify the effect on the verification result in the individual patient-specific quality assurance (QA) using the verification phantom.

Methods: For four types of mock structures presented at AAPM TG-119, volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) treatment plans with three dose levels were set without using the ASC for each of these four types.

Association Between Before-bedtime Passive Body Heating and Nocturia During the Cold Season Among Older Adults.

Background: Cold exposure induces lower urinary tract symptoms, including nocturia. Cold-induced detrusor overactivity can be alleviated by increasing skin temperature in rats. However, no study has shown an association between passive heating via hot-water bathing and nocturia among humans.

Trichilemmal cysts with proteinaceous material: A potential diagnostic pitfall.

Background: Cysts of the skin are observed frequently and their diagnoses are generally straightforward. However, atypical cystic lesions for which differentiation is indistinct have been noted.

Methods: We examined five cases of trichilemmal cyst with proteinaceous material (TCPM), which required differentiation from sweat duct/gland tumors.

The characteristics of patients receiving psychotropic pro re nata medication at discharge for the treatment of schizophrenia and major depressive disorder: A nationwide survey from the EGUIDE project.

Background: Although several guidelines indicate that daily pharmacotherapy is an important part of the treatment of schizophrenia and major depressive disorder, there are few reports regarding pro re nata (PRN) prescriptions. The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of patients receiving psychotropic PRN prescription for the treatment of schizophrenia and major depressive disorder.

Method: We used data from 'the effectiveness of guideline for dissemination and education in psychiatric treatment' (EGUIDE) project to evaluate the presence or absence of psychotropic PRN prescription at the time of discharge, the age and sex of patients receiving PRN prescription for each diagnosis, and the association between PRN prescription and regular daily psychotropics.

Expression of actin- and oxidative phosphorylation-related transcripts across the cortical visuospatial working memory network in unaffected comparison and schizophrenia subjects.

Visuospatial working memory (vsWM), which is impaired in schizophrenia (SZ), is mediated by a distributed cortical network. In one node of this network, the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), altered expression of transcripts for actin assembly and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) have been reported in SZ. To understand the relationship between these processes, and the extent to which similar alterations are present in other regions of vsWM network in SZ, a subset of actin- (CDC42, BAIAP2, ARPC3, and ARPC4) and OXPHOS-related (ATP5H, COX4I1, COX7B, and NDUFB3) transcripts were quantified in DLPFC by RNA sequencing in 139 SZ and unaffected comparison (UC) subjects, and in DLPFC and three other regions of the cortical vsWM network by qPCR in 20 pairs of SZ and UC subjects.

Prevention of surgical adhesions with gelatine sealing sheet in a canine adhesion model.

Objectives: Although reoperation has been increasingly performed in cardiovascular surgery in recent years, preventing surgical adhesions remains an unsolved complication. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate whether gelatine sealing sheets are more effective than fibrin sealing sheets in preventing surgical adhesions.

Methods: Bilateral femoral arteries of 20 beagle dogs under general anaesthesia were pricked with syringe needles, and gelatine and fibrin sealing sheets were applied on the bleeding points to make canine adhesion models.

Objectives: Orthostatic dizziness/vertigo (ODV) is a common symptom and is believed to occur due to the cerebral hypoperfusion caused by orthostatic hypotension (OH). However, the detailed mechanism underlying ODV onset is poorly understood. The vertebral artery (VA) mainly supplies blood to the central vestibular system; therefore, the orthostatic decrease of VA blood flow could possibly lead to ODV.

Comparison of objective and subjective sleep parameters in patients with bipolar disorder in both euthymic and residual symptomatic periods.

Background: Sleep disturbance is a core feature of bipolar disorder; hence, sleep must be accurately assessed in patients with bipolar disorder. Subjective sleep assessment tools such as sleep diary and questionnaires are often used clinically for assessing sleep in these patients. However, the insight into whether these tools are as accurate as objective tools, such as actigraphy, remains controversial.
