Purpose: To evaluate and compare the usefulness of equivalent cross-relaxation rate (ECR) imaging (ECRI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in the early prediction of the response of bevacizumab-containing treatments of colorectal liver metastases.
Methods And Material: Seven patients received bevacizumab-containing treatments for colorectal liver metastases. Serial magnetic resonance imaging was performed to evaluate responses before and 2 weeks after starting chemotherapy.

Antiviral activities of insoluble solid-state and soluble ionic copper and silver compounds were evaluated against influenza A virus (A/PR8/H1N1) possessing a viral envelope and bacteriophage Qβ lacking an envelope. The viral solutions were exposed on glass samples uniformly loaded with copper and silver compounds. Exposure to solid-state cuprous oxide (Cu2O) efficiently inactivated both influenza A virus and bacteriophage Qβ, whereas solid-state cupric oxide (CuO) and silver sulfide (Ag2S) showed little antiviral activity.

Objective: To examine the utility and safety of photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) after oral administration of 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) (ALA-PDD) of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) using fluorescent-light (FL)-cystoscopy.
Methods: The study was a single-arm, open-label, multi-center prospective study on ALA-PDD of NMIBC, with safety as the primary endpoint and efficacy as the secondary endpoint. Diagnostic potential was evaluated through comparisons with the conventional diagnostic method using a white-light (WL)-source.

Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, which are mainly induced by the production of OXA-type β-lactamases, are among the leading causes of nosocomial infections worldwide. Among the β-lactamase genes, the presence of the OXA-51-like gene carrying the upstream insertion sequence, ISAba1, was found to be one of the most prevalent carbapenem resistance mechanisms utilized by these bacteria. Limitations in the current treatment strategies make cases with compromised bone healing challenging clinical problems. Osteogenic cell sheets (OCSs), fabricated from rat bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs), contain enriched osteoblasts and extracellular matrix. Human internal anal sphincter (IAS) is contracted by α1-adrenoceptor stimulation and thus α1-adrenoceptor agonists may be useful in treating fecal incontinence. This study characterizes the contribution of α1-adrenoceptor subtypes in contraction of human IAS and to investigate the age-related risk of patients with fecal incontinence. IAS and inferior mesenteric artery (IMA), as a predictor of systemic arterial pressure, were obtained from 11 patients.

Objective: This study was designed to evaluate efficacy and safety of aripiprazole once-monthly (AOM) by verifying non-inferiority of AOM to oral aripiprazole in Asian patients with schizophrenia.
Method: The study consisted of a screening phase and three phases: an oral conversion phase (≤12weeks), an oral stabilization phase (≤12weeks) and a 52-week double-blind phase. Patients meeting stabilization criteria for 4weeks during the oral stabilization phase were randomly assigned (1:1) to AOM (400mg) or oral aripiprazole (6-24mg/day).

We describe a fatal case of drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome with human herpesvirus-6B (HHV-6B)-associated lymphadenitis and virus-associated hemophagocytic syndrome triggered by an over-the-counter medication to treat respiratory and influenza-like symptoms. Histologically, the structure of the lymph node was disrupted with infiltration of large lymphocytes carrying intranuclear acidophilic inclusion bodies. Immunohistochemistry and real-time PCR analysis revealed that these large lymphocytes were positive for HHV-6B.

Sensory experience regulates the development of various brain structures, including the cortex, hippocampus, and olfactory bulb (OB). Little is known about how sensory experience regulates the dendritic spine development of OB interneurons, such as granule cells (GCs), although it is well studied in mitral/tufted cells. Here, we identify a transcription factor, Npas4, which is expressed in OB GCs immediately after sensory input and is required for dendritic spine formation.

Objective: midwifery homes (similar to birth centres) are rich in midwifery wisdom and skills that differ from those in hospital obstetrical departments, and a certain percentage of pregnant women prefer birth in these settings. This study aimed to understand the organisation of the perinatal environment considered important by independent midwives in non-hospital settings and to clarify the processes involved.
Design: semi-structured qualitative interview study and constant comparative analysis.

Subclavian steal syndrome (SSS) is usually caused by unilateral subclavian artery (SA) occlusion, and bilateral SSS is very rare. Takayasu's arteritis (TA) is a chronic granulomatous form of vasculitis that affects the SA, most commonly in women aged 15-40 years. We report a rare case of bilateral SSS due to TA in a 52-year-old woman, who exhibited severe vertigo.
