Studies exploring the association between obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSA) and gastrointestinal diseases (GID) are important for enhancing clinical outcomes. This study aimed to systematically assess the association between these two diseases. Adhering to PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted across databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Willey Library, Cochrane Library and Scopus.

The prognosis of radiotherapy or chemotherapy is still unsatisfactory. This study is aimed at investigating the predictive value of glycolysis-related genes (GRGs) on the prognosis of NSCLC patients with radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

The regeneration of critical-size bone defects on long bones has remained a significant challenge because of the complex anatomical structure and vascular network. In such circumstances, current biomaterial forms with homogeneous structure and function can hardly satisfy the need for both osteogenesis and angiogenesis. In the current study, a heterogeneous biomimetic structured scaffold was constructed with the help of a 3D printed mold to simultaneously mimic the outer/inner periosteum and intermediate bone matrix of a natural long bone.

Background And Purpose: Simvastatin is a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA reductase inhibitor with multiple targets and effects. It protects neurons in the brain, but its protective effects on photoreceptors are unclear. In this study, we evaluated the neuroprotective effect of simvastatin on photoreceptors exposed to stress induced by all-trans-retinal (atRAL).

Endothelial dysfunction plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atherogenesis. 2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-D-glucoside (TSG), an active component of the rhizome extract from Polygonum multiflorum (PM), exhibits significant anti-atherosclerotic activity. Here, we used human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) induced by tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in vitro to investigate the cytoprotective effects of TSG on TNF-α-induced endothelial injury and the related mechanisms.

Aim: Intestinal epithelial barrier is essential for maintaining normal intestinal homeostasis; its breakdown leads to chronic inflammatory pathologies, such as inflammatory bowel diseases. Far upstream element binding protein 1 (FBP1) has been reported to play an important role in cell apoptosis and proliferation. We aimed to investigate the expression and the role of FBP1 in dextran sodium sulphate (DSS)-induced experimental colitis.

Chronic hepatitis C is a serious liver disease that often results in cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this study was to assess the association of human leukocyte antigen-DP (HLA-DP) variants with risk of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) or anti-F antibody generation. We selected two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a region including HLA-DPA1 (rs3077) and HLA-DPB1 (rs9277534) and genotyped SNPs in 702 cases and 342 healthy controls from the Chinese population using TaqMan SNP genotyping assay.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of 2,3,4',5-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-beta-D-glucoside, an active component extracted from Polygonum multiflorum, on pressure overload-induced cardiac remodeling in rats. A rat model with cardiac remodeling was induced by abdominal aortic banding. 2,3,4',5-Tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-beta-D-glucoside (30, 60, 120 mg/kg/day) was administered 3 days after abdominal aortic banding and continued for 30 days.

We sought to investigate whether TSG suppressed the ICAM-1/VCAM-1 expression in dietary atherosclerotic rats and in Ox-LDL-induced U937 cells. For this purpose, 60 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly-and-equally divided into six groups. Atherosclerosis was induced by feeding rats a hyperlipidemic diet.

MicroRNAs (miRs) are endogenously expressed small noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level. Previous works indicated that the miR-17-92 cluster could regulate endothelial cell (EC) functions involved in angiogenesis. miR-17-3p, a component of the miR-17-92 cluster, could control the angiogenic activity of human umbilical vein ECs in a cell-autonomous manner in vitro.

Most cardiac diseases are associated with fibrosis. Calcineurin (CaN) is regulated by Ca(2+)/calmodulin (CaM). The CaN-NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T cell) pathway is involved in the process of cardiac diseases, such as cardiac hypertrophy, but its effect on myocardial fibrosis remains unclear.

2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-D-glucoside (TSG) extracted from Polygonum multiflorum (a traditional Chinese medicinal herb) has been proved to exhibit significant anti-atherosclerotic activity. In this study, we firstly used proteomic analyses to investigate the molecular events occurring in the atherosclerotic rats after TSG treatment. Aortic samples were collected from the atherosclerotic rat group and the TSG-treated group, and its proteome was analyzed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE).

2,3,4',5-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-0-β-D glucoside (TSG) has been recognized to suppress the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). The aim of the present study was to determine whether TSG inhibits neointimal hyperplasia in a rat carotid arterial balloon injury model. Balloon injury was induced in the left common carotid artery of rats.

Objective: To develop a novel Escherichia coli cell surface display system by using C-terminally truncated NCgl1221 as the anchoring protein, which greatly enriched or optimized the bacterial displayed systems.
Methods: We amplified the sequence of C-terminally truncated NCgl1221 and beta-amylase, and constructed the fusion expression vector. Then we transformed the recombinant plasmids PET-NA and PET-28a into Rosetta (DE3) pLysS.

Cardiac fibroblasts (CF) have direct and potent effects on myocardial remodelling by proliferating, differentiating and secreting extracellular matrix proteins. Prolonged activation of CF leads to cardiac fibrosis and reduces myocardial contractile function. In previous studies we showed that 2,3,4',5-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-d-glucoside (TSG) exerts cardiac protection, but the mechanism involved remains unclear.

1. G-Protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) and electrical field stimulation (EFS) regulate cardiac function and pathological remodelling, including cardiac hypertrophy. Cardiac Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMK) IIdelta expression and activity are altered in cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure.

Calcium-calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is one of the main protein kinases mediating intracellular Ca changes. It is also involved in the process of cardiac diseases, such as cardiac hypertrophy, but its effects on myocardial fibrosis remain unclear. The present study investigates whether CaMKII is involved in cardiac fibroblast proliferation and extracellular matrix (ECM) secretion induced by angiotensin II (AngII) or electrical field stimulation (EFS) in cultured neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts.
