Background: Antibiotic resistance in nursing homes (NHs) is inconsistently tackled by antimicrobial stewardship programmes. The literature on individual determinants of antibiotic prescriptions (APs) in NHs is extensive. However, less is known about the structural determinants of AP in NHs.

We report nonadiabatic dynamics computations on CH initiated on a coherent superposition of the five lowest cationic states, employing the Quantum Ehrenfest method. In addition to the totally symmetric carbon-carbon double bond stretch and carbon-hydrogen stretches, we see that the three non-totally symmetric modes become stimulated; torsion and three different CH stretching patterns. Thus, a coherent superposition of states, of the type involved in an attochemistry experiment, leads to the stimulation of specific non-totally symmetric motions.

Background: Cleft lip and/or palate is the most common congenital orofacial deformity, affecting 1/800 births. A thorough review of the literature has shown that children with cleft have poorer oral hygiene and dental health than other children, with higher levels of caries in both temporary and permanent teeth and poorer periodontal health. Cleft patients are treated by a multidisciplinary team that aims to provide comprehensive care from pre- or post-natal diagnosis to early adulthood and the end of growth.

Background: The early mortality of trauma patients, mainly from hemorrhagic shock, raises interest in detecting the presence of non-exteriorized bleeding. Intra-hospital EFAST (Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma) has demonstrated its utility in the assessment and management of severe trauma patients (STP). However, there is a lack of data regarding the diagnostic performance of prehospital EFAST (pEFAST).

Purpose: Proximal femur megaprostheses (PFMPs) are used to manage large bone defects in both non-oncological indications (NOI) and oncological indications (OI). However, little is known about the comparative risks of reoperation and functional outcomes between these groups. This study aimed to evaluate the cumulative incidences of reoperation and functional results of PFMPs between NOI and OI.

: This multicentric study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of prostatic artery embolization (PAE) to remove indwelling urinary catheter (IUC) in patients with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Secondary objectives were to identify features associated with post-PAE catheter-free survival (PCFS). : All consecutive patients who underwent PAE for IUC related to BPH with a follow-up of at least 2 years (except for early death) in 6 French University Hospitals were retrospectively included.

We present an efficient strategy for on-surface engineering of organic metal-free supramolecular complexes with long-term spin protection. By vacuum deposition of azafullerene (CN) monomers on a pre-deposited template layer of [10]cycloparaphenylene ([10]CPP) nanohoops on Au(111) surface we exploit the molecular shape matching between the CN and [10]CPP for the azafullerene encapsulation with nanohoops in a guest-host complexation geometry. CN⊂[10]CPP supramolecular complexes self-assemble into an extended two-dimensional hexagonal lattice yielding a high density network of stable spin-1/2 radicals.

Critical illness is a complex condition that can have a devastating impact on health and quality of life. Nutritional support is a crucial component of critical care that aims to maintain or restore nutritional status and muscle function. A one-size-fits-all approach to the components of nutritional support has not proven beneficial.

Background: Early-life exposures including diet, and the gut microbiome have been proposed to predispose infants towards multifactorial diseases later in life. Delivery via Cesarian section disrupts the establishment of the gut microbiome and has been associated with negative long-term outcomes. Here, we hypothesize that Cesarian section delivery alters not only the composition of the developing infant gut microbiome but also its metabolic capabilities.

Background: Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS) is characterized by severe headaches, often thunderclap headaches, and a multifocal constriction of the cerebral arteries. Although RCVS can occur spontaneously, some cases occur after exposure to drugs. We describe the first case of RCVS in which methylphenidate, a drug with vasoconstrictive properties, is the only suspected drug.

Background: Indications for Veno-venous (VV) or veno-arterial (VA) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) after trauma rely on poor evidence. The main aims were to describe the population of trauma patients requiring either VV or VA ECMO and report their clinical management and outcomes.
Methods: An observational multicentre retrospective study was conducted in 17 Level 1 trauma centres in France between January 2010 and December 2021.

Early failure of a pancreatic allograft due to complete thrombosis has an incidence of approximately 10% and is the main cause of comorbidity in pancreas transplantation. Although several risk factors have been identified, the exact mechanisms leading to this serious complication are still unclear. In this review, we define the roles of the individual components involved during sterile immunothrombosis-namely endothelial cells, platelets, and innate immune cells.

Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) arising from a myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) is more aggressive and less responsive to therapies compared to de novo AML. Olutasidenib, an oral small-molecule inhibitor of mutated IDH1 (mIDH1), showed encouraging and durable responses in a phase 1/2 study of adults with post-MPN mIDH1 AML. Patients received olutasidenib 150 mg BID monotherapy or in combination with azacitidine.

Introduction: Membranous nephropathy can lead to end-stage kidney disease, for which kidney transplantation is the preferred therapy. However, the disease often relapses, which can impact allograft survival.
Methods: We conducted a prospective multicenter study in France involving 72 patients with membranous nephropathy who were awaiting and then underwent kidney transplantation.

Background: While numerous antimicrobial stewardship programs aim to decrease inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions, evidence of their positive impact is needed to optimize future interventions.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate 2 multifaceted antibiotic stewardship interventions for inappropriate systemic antibiotic prescription in primary care.
Methods: An open-label, cluster-randomized controlled trial of 2501 general practitioners (GPs) working in western France was conducted from July 2019 to January 2021.

Background: In organ transplantation, cold ischemia is associated with sterile inflammation that subsequently conditions adaptive immunity directed against the grafts during revascularization. This inflammation is responsible for venous thrombosis, which is the main postoperative complication affecting graft function. Our aim was to investigate the modulation of immune responses and endothelial function of pancreatic grafts during cold ischemia using different preservation modalities.

December 2024
Clinic for Orthopedics, Heidelberg University Hospital, Germany. Electronic address:
Background: The assessment of gait disorders in patients with neuromotor conditions, such as cerebral palsy (CP), has been a focus of clinical and research attention, with electromyography (EMG) offering a nuanced understanding of neurological and neuromuscular disorders. However, the interpretation of EMG data in the context of gait analysis remains challenging due to the complexity of neuromotor dynamics and variability in assessment methodologies.
Research Question: To which consensus can we get in a group of experts in the fields of neurological and neuromuscular disorders, biomechanics, and clinical gait analysis to establish standardized protocols and a common language for the measurement and analysis of EMG data in gait disorders, particularly in people living with CP?
Methods: A three-round Delphi process was conducted from February to September 2023 to gather opinions of 53 experts on the use of surface EMG data during gait in the context of CP.

Background: Uterus transplantation from deceased donors offers a promising solution to the organ shortage, but optimal preservation methods are crucial for successful outcomes. Our primary objective is to conduct an initial assessment of the contribution of oxygenated hypothermic perfusion in uterine transplantation.
Methods: We performed a preclinical study on a porcine model of controlled donation after circulatory death (60 min warm ischemia).
