Prostate cancer in solid organ transplant recipients: Results from a multicenter series.

Introduction: Prostate cancer incidence in immunosuppressed transplant recipients increases as life expectancy improves in this population. However, the management of treatments and immunosuppressive (IS) regimens for solid organ transplant recipients diagnosed with prostate cancer remains poorly defined. Therefore, we conducted a multicentric study to investigate these parameters more thoroughly.

Branching and nonbranching intracranial aneurysms in the presence of a persistent stapedial artery and an aberrant internal carotid artery assessed with computational hemodynamics: illustrative case.

Background: The mechanisms underlying the initiation and progression of bifurcation versus lateral wall aneurysms are not well understood. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can improve the understanding of these mechanisms and can consequently help identify patients at higher risk for developing aneurysms and monitor them more closely.

Observations: A 36-year-old man presented with a ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysm, which was successfully treated with microsurgical clipping.

A case report of unilateral cerebral vasculitis in adults: keep in mind Lyme neuroborreliosis.

Background: Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB), due to infection of the nervous system by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi, occurs in 15% of Lyme disease cases. However, neurovascular involvement is uncommon, especially recurrent stroke related to cerebral vasculitis in the absence of CSF pleocytosis.

Case Presentation: We report the case of a 58-year-old man without any medical history who exhibited recurrent strokes in the same vascular territory (left internal carotid).

Cirrhosis is usually a late-onset and life-threatening disease characterized by fibrotic scarring and inflammation that disrupts liver architecture and function. In this study, we report 14 children from ten unrelated families presenting with a syndromic form of pediatric liver cirrhosis.

Electrical Storm Ablation in a Patient in Cardiogenic Shock Supported by Impella 5.0.

Intra-axial pumps are increasingly used to support cardiogenic shock. The occurrence of electrical storms in this setting is a rising issue, and data remain scarce about optimal management. We report the feasibility of ventricular tachycardia ablation in the presence of a recent surgically inserted Impella 5.

Photoprotection according to skin phototype and dermatoses: practical recommendations from an expert panel.

Increasing evidence on the impact of the different wavelengths of sunlight on the skin demonstrates the need for tailored recommendations of sunscreen according to skin phototype and dermatoses, which is now possible due to advances in the filters and formulations of sunscreens. A selective literature search was performed by an international expert panel, focusing on the type of sunscreen to recommend for photoaging, skin cancers, photodermatoses, pigmentary disorders and skin inflammatory disorders. Protection against ultraviolet (UV)B is especially important for light skin as there is a high risk of sunburn, DNA damage and skin cancers.

Developmental and epilepsy spectrum of KCNB1 encephalopathy with long-term outcome.

Objective: We aimed to delineate the phenotypic spectrum and long-term outcome of individuals with KCNB1 encephalopathy.

Methods: We collected genetic, clinical, electroencephalographic, and imaging data of individuals with KCNB1 pathogenic variants recruited through an international collaboration, with the support of the family association "KCNB1 France." Patients were classified as having developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) or developmental encephalopathy (DE).

Surgical management of gastric adenocarcinoma. Official expert recommendations delivered under the aegis of the French Association of Surgery (AFC).

Gastric adenocarcinoma (GA) is the 5 most common cancer in the world; in France, however, its incidence has been steadily decreasing. Twenty-five experts brought together under the aegis of the French Association of Surgery collaborated in the drafting of a series of recommendations for surgical management of GA. As concerns preoperative evaluation and work-up, echo-endoscopy aimed at clarifying lymph node status should be performed in all candidates for surgical resection and exploratory laparoscopy in cases of GA cT3/T4 and/or N+ for peritoneal carcinomatosis.

PiT1/Slc20a1 Is Required for Endoplasmic Reticulum Homeostasis, Chondrocyte Survival, and Skeletal Development.

During skeletal mineralization, the sodium-phosphate co-transporter PiT1Slc20a1 is assumed to meet the phosphate requirements of bone-forming cells, although evidence is missing. Here, we used a conditional gene deletion approach to determine the role of PiT1 in growth plate chondrocytes. We show that PiT1 ablation shortly after birth generates a rapid and massive cell death in the center of the growth plate, together with an uncompensated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, characterized by morphological changes and increased Chop, Atf4, and Bip expression.

NBEA: Developmental disease gene with early generalized epilepsy phenotypes.

NBEA is a candidate gene for autism, and de novo variants have been reported in neurodevelopmental disease (NDD) cohorts. However, NBEA has not been rigorously evaluated as a disease gene, and associated phenotypes have not been delineated. We identified 24 de novo NBEA variants in patients with NDD, establishing NBEA as an NDD gene.

Morphological Predictive Features on Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography for Visual Outcomes in Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration Treated with Ranibizumab.

Purpose: To identify spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) predictive morphological features for the outcome of Ranibizumab therapy for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Methods: This is a retrospective multicentric study that involved 64 eyes with naïve AMD. Patients who received three monthly intravitreal injections of Ranibizumab were stratified into (1) "responders" [≥ 5 letters gain on Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) scale] and (2) "nonresponders" (< 5 letters gain).

Management and outcomes of acute respiratory distress syndrome patients with and without comorbid conditions.

Rationale: The standard of care for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has been developed based on studies that usually excluded patients with major comorbidities.

Objectives: To describe treatments and outcomes according to comorbidities in patients with ARDS admitted to 19 ICUs (1997-2014).

Methods: Patients were grouped based on comorbidities.

Initial nutritional management during noninvasive ventilation and outcomes: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Patients starting noninvasive ventilation (NIV) to treat acute respiratory failure are often unable to eat and therefore remain in the fasting state or receive nutritional support. Maintaining a good nutritional status has been reported to improve patient outcomes. In the present study, our primary objective was to describe the nutritional management of patients starting first-line NIV, and our secondary objectives were to assess potential associations between nutritional management and outcomes.

McGRATH MAC videolaryngoscope versus Macintosh laryngoscope for orotracheal intubation in intensive care patients: the randomised multicentre MACMAN trial study protocol.

Introduction: Critically ill patients with acute respiratory, neurological or cardiovascular failure requiring invasive mechanical ventilation are at high risk of difficult intubation and have organ dysfunctions associated with complications of intubation and anaesthesia such as hypotension and hypoxaemia. The complication rate increases with the number of intubation attempts. Videolaryngoscopy improves elective endotracheal intubation.

Side effects of corticosteroid injections: what's new?

The risk of sepsis with a hip or knee implant does not seem to be increased by prior joint injections, as long as the injection and surgery are separated by at least two months. Calcifications have been reported after intradiscal injection in the coccygeal region for coccydynia. Complete rest for 24 hours after injection of triamcinolone hexacetonide into the knee had no effect on systemic diffusion of the product.

18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography for preoperative lymph node staging in patients undergoing radical cystectomy for bladder cancer: a prospective study.

Objectives: The objective of our study was to analyze the diagnostic performance of (18) F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography for lymph node staging in patients with bladder cancer before radical cystectomy and to compare it with that of computed tomography.

Methods: A total of 52 patients operated on between 2005 and 2010 were prospectively included in this prospective, mono-institutional, open, non-randomized pilot study. Patients who had received neoadjuvant chemotherapy or radiotherapy were excluded.

Impact of a campaign to train general practitioners in screening for melanoma.

Background: The thrombogenic burden of immobilization remains unknown especially in the medical setting. Most of epidemiological studies estimating the link between risk factors and venous thromboembolism (VTE) have not been designed to evaluate immobilization. The aim of this work was to estimate the risk of VTE in medical bedridden patients by a systematic review and a meta-analysis.
