Background: Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is the standard surgery to treat tumors and other conditions affecting the head of the pancreas. PD involves the division of the gastroduodenal artery (GDA) and its branches, to allow for complete dissection of lymph nodes. However, PD in patients with prior esophageal resection presents challenges due to altered anatomy and risks compromising gastric tube vascularization.

Neurochirurgie

May 2024

Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery, University of Montreal Hospital Center, 1000, Rue St-Denis Montréal, QC H2X 0C, Canada. Electronic address:

Background: The vertebral arteries (VA) play a critical role by supplying nearly one-third of the brain's blood flow, predominantly contributing to the posterior circulation. These arteries may need to be exposed in a various cranial and cervical procedures and offers access to investigate or treat vascular lesions by endovascular means related to the posterior circulation. Given its complex anatomy, which is subject to numerous variations, and its role in supplying vital brain regions, a thorough understanding of the VA's anatomy is paramount for any related procedure.

Cytokines are crucial molecules for maintaining the proper functioning of the immune system. Nevertheless, a dysregulation of cytokine expression could be involved in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. Interleukin (IL)-15 is a key factor for natural killer cells (NK) and CD8 T cells homeostasis, necessary to fight cancer and infections but could also be considered as a pro-inflammatory cytokine involved in autoimmune inflammatory disease, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, along with tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), IL-6, and IL-1β.

  • * Diagnosing HOAH typically involves gene mutation identification and phenotypic studies; however, normal electrophoretic analysis can occur in about one-third of cases, and the venous P50 measurement is crucial but not widely available.
  • * In a study of 75 patients with idiopathic erythrocytosis and normal venous P50 values, mutations were found in three patients, suggesting that normal P50 results might not adequately rule out HOAH, highlighting the need for systematic gene sequencing in these cases.
