Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) within the tumor microenvironment (TME) contribute to the malignant progression of tumors by exerting immunosuppressive effects. Bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) have been widely demonstrated in various types of solid tumors. LPS can promote the malignant progression of tumors, which mechanism has not yet been fully elucidated.

As promising bifunctional electrocatalysts, transition metal nitrides are expected to achieve an efficient hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR) by fine-tuning electronic structure via strain engineering, thereby facilitating hydrogen production. However, understanding the correlation between strain-induced atomic microenvironments and reactivity remains challenging. Herein, a generalized compressive strained W-NiN catalyst is developed to create a surface with enriched electronic states that optimize intermediate binding and activate both water and NH.

We estimated the monetary value of informal care from the perspectives of informal caregivers and care recipients in China using the contingent valuation method. Data were obtained from a specially designed survey of 1458 informal caregivers and 972 care recipients. The mean for caregivers' willingness to pay (WTP) for reducing informal care by 1 h per week was CNY32.

Memristors enable non-volatile memory and neuromorphic computing. Optical memristors are the fundamental element for programmable photonic integrated circuits due to their high-bandwidth computing, low crosstalk, and minimal power consumption. Here, an optical memristor enabled by a non-volatile electro-optic (EO) effect, where refractive index modulation under zero field is realized by deliberate control of domain alignment in the ferroelectric material Pb(MgNb)O-PbTiO(PMN-PT) is proposed.

Aqueous zinc-based batteries have garnered the attention of the electrochemical energy storage community, but they suffer from electrolytes freezing and sluggish kinetics in cold environments. In this Review, we discuss the key parameters necessary for designing anti-freezing aqueous zinc electrolytes. We start with the fundamentals related to different zinc salts and their dissolution and solvation behaviours, by highlighting the effects of anions and additives on salt solubility, ion diffusion and freezing points.

Ubiquitin fold modifier 1 (UFM1) is a newly identified post-translational modifier that is involved in the UFMylation process. Similar to ubiquitination, UFMylation enables the conjugation of UFM1 to specific target proteins, thus altering their stability, activity, or localization. UFM1 chains have the potential to undergo cleavage from their associated proteins via UFM1-specific proteases, thus highlighting a reversible feature of UFMylation.

Non-Hermitian topological photonics plays a key role in bridging topological matter with gain and loss engineering in optics. Here we report the experimental observation of the break of chiral currents in a Hall ladder from the non-Hermiticity by constructing synthetic frequency dimension in two rings, where currents on both legs of the ladder co-propagate in the same direction. The origin of such phenomena is resulted from the interplay between the effective magnetic flux and the on-site gain and loss.

The zinc-activated channel (ZAC) is an atypical mammalian cys-loop receptor (CLR) that is activated by zinc ions and protons, allowing cations to pass through. The molecular mechanism that ligands use to activate ZAC remains elusive. Here, we present three cryo-electron microscopy reconstructions of human ZAC (hZAC) under different conditions.

Flexible molecular crystals are essential for advancing smart materials, providing unique functionality and adaptability for applications in next-generation electronics, pharmaceuticals, and energy storage. However, the optical applications of flexible molecular crystals have been largely restricted to linear optics, with nonlinear optical (NLO) properties rarely explored. Herein, we report on the application of mechanical twisting of flexible molecular crystals for second-order nonlinear optics.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major cause of chronic liver disease. Although interferon-free direct-acting antivirals have led to significant advancements in the treatment of HCV infection, the high genetic variability of the virus and the emergence of acquired drug resistance pose potential threats to their effectiveness. In this study, we develop a broad-spectrum aptamer-based proteolysis targeting chimera, designated dNS5B, which effectively degrades both pan-genotypic NS5B polymerase and drug-resistant mutants through ubiquitin proteasome system.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly malignant tumor with a notably poor response to therapy due to its immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) and intrinsic drug resistance. The oncolytic virus (OV) represents a promising therapeutic strategy capable of transforming the "cold" immunological profile of PDAC tumors to a "hot" one by reshaping the TME. 4-1BB (CD137), a crucial member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, plays a significant role in T-cell activation and function.

Network dismantling is an important question that has attracted much attention from many different research areas, including the disruption of criminal organizations, the maintenance of stability in sensor networks, and so on. However, almost all current algorithms focus on unsigned networks, and few studies explore the problem of signed network dismantling due to its complexity and lack of data. Importantly, there is a lack of an effective quality function to assess the performance of signed network dismantling, which seriously restricts its deeper applications.

Data-driven decision-making has become crucial across various domains. Randomization and re-randomization are standard techniques employed in controlled experiments to estimate causal effects in the presence of numerous pre-treatment covariates. This paper quantifies the worst-case mean squared error of the difference-in-means estimator as a generalized discrepancy of covariates between treatment and control groups.

sp-carbon-linked covalent organic frameworks (spc-COFs) are crystalline porous polymers with repeat organic units linked by sp carbons, and have attracted increasing interest due to their robust skeleton and tunable semiconducting properties. Single-crystalline spc-COFs with well-defined structures can represent an ideal platform for investigating fundamental physics properties and device performance. However, the robust olefin bonds inhibit the reversible-reaction-based crystal self-correction, thus yielding polycrystalline or amorphous polymers.
