The existing research studies on the basin stability of stochastic systems typically focus on smooth systems, or the attraction basins are pre-defined as easily solvable regular basins. In this work, we introduce a new framework to discover the basin stability from state time series in the non-smooth stochastic competition system under threshold control. Specifically, we approximate the drift and diffusion with threshold control parameters by an extended Kramers-Moyal expansion with initial state partitioning.

Nanoplastics (NPs) are ubiquitous in the environment, posing significant threats to biological systems, including nervous systems, across various trophic levels. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms behind the size-dependent neurotoxicity of NPs remain unclear. Here, we investigated the neurotoxicity of 20 and 100 nm polystyrene NPs (PS-NPs) to zebrafish.

Viral adhesion to host cells is a critical step in infection for many viruses, including monkeypox virus (MPXV). In MPXV, the H3 protein mediates viral adhesion through its interaction with heparan sulfate (HS), yet the structural details of this interaction have remained elusive. Using AI-based structural prediction tools and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we identified a novel, positively charged α-helical domain in H3 that is essential for HS binding.

Background: The causal relationship between percentage of fat in milk consumption and cancer risk lacks sufficient investigation. The purpose of this study was to explore whether the percentage of fat in milk consumption is a factor that affects the risk variation of several common types of cancer.
Methods: Mendelian randomization (MR) was performed to estimate the unconfounded causal relationship between the percentage of fat in milk consumption and the risk of six cancers related to milk intake, as well as to assess the associations between body fat percentage and these cancers.

Creatine (Cr) is recognized for its role in enhancing cognitive functions through the phosphocreatine (pCr)-creatine kinase system involved in brain energy homeostasis. It is reversibly converted into pCr by creatine kinase (CK). A brain-specific isoform of CK, known as CK-BB, is implicated in the brain's energy metabolism.

Recent studies have attempted to characterize the layer-specific mechanical and microstructural properties of the aortic tissues in either normal or pathological state to understand its structural-mechanical property relationships. However, layer-specific tissue mechanics and compositions of normal and dissected ascending aortas have not been thoroughly compared with a statistical conclusion obtained. Eighteen ascending aortic specimens were harvested from 13 patients with type A aortic dissection and 5 donors without aortic diseases, with each specimen further excised to obtain three tissue samples including an intact wall, an intima-media layer and an adventitia layer.

Background: The treatment of transplant ureteral stricture (TUS) has been a great challenge, and there is limited experience with indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence-guided robotic Boari flap-pelvis anastomosis to identify ureteral stenosis segments (especially long-segment) and their postoperative blood supply. We report case series of ureteral strictures treated with ICG fluorescence-guided robotic Boari flap-pelvis anastomosis in our center.
Case Description: We retrospectively collected clinical data of six patients diagnosed with long-segment even full-length TUS who underwent robotic Boari flap-pelvis anastomosis with the assistance of modified distribution of robotic ports and ICG fluorescence between June 2022 and June 2024, focusing on postoperative renal function, stenosis recurrence, and urinary fistulae.

Gastric cancer (GC) ranks among the top five most diagnosed cancers globally, with particularly high incidence and mortality rates observed in Asian regions. Despite certain advancements achieved through early screening and treatment strategies in many countries, GC continues to pose a significant public health challenge. Approximately 20% of patients infected with develop precancerous lesions, among which metaplasia is the most critical.

Background: Chemoresistance is a major cause of treatment failure in advanced colorectal cancer (CRC), severely impacting patient survival and quality of life. While conventional chemotherapy regimens can somewhat control tumor progression, their effectiveness is frequently compromised by the development of drug resistance in cancer cells. The aim of this study is to verify and elucidate the specific mechanisms by which leptin enhances chemosensitivity in CRC, providing valuable insights for the development of new combination chemotherapy options.

Semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (SPNs) have been widely applied for phototheranostics. However, the disadvantage of long-term metabolism greatly suppresses the clinical application of SPNs. To improve the metabolic rate and minimize the long-term toxicity of SPNs, biodegradable semiconducting polymers (BSPs), whose backbones may be degraded under certain conditions, have been designed.

We herein report a Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H bond coupling of -chloroimines with maleimides, in which the [4 + 2] annulation and dehydrogenative annulation processes can be selectively achieved by simply adjusting the reaction conditions. This protocol is compatible with various functional groups, shows exquisite selectivity, and presents a concise synthetic procedure to respective products in moderate to good yields. With all these merits, this strategy may be applicable in the construction of related azaheterocyclic skeletons.

RNA interference (RNAi) and oxidative stress inhibition therapeutic strategies have been extensively utilized in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA), the most prevalent degenerative joint disease. However, the synergistic effects of these approaches on attenuating OA progression remain largely unexplored. In this study, matrix metalloproteinase-13 siRNA (siMMP-13) was incorporated onto polyethylenimine (PEI)-polyethylene glycol (PEG) modified FeO nanoparticles, forming a nucleic acid nanocarrier termed si-Fe NPs.

Laboratory-scale spin-coating techniques are widely employed for fabricating small-size, high-efficiency perovskite solar cells. However, achieving large-area, high-uniformity perovskite films and thus high-efficiency solar cell devices remain challenging due to the complex fluid dynamics and drying behaviors of perovskite precursor solutions during large-area fabrication processes. In this work, a high-quality, pinhole-free, large-area FAPbI perovskite film is successfully obtained via scalable blade-coating technology, assisted by a novel bidirectional Marangoni convection strategy.

The amount of methane released to the atmosphere from the Nord Stream subsea pipeline leaks remains uncertain, as reflected in a wide range of estimates. A lack of information regarding the temporal variation in atmospheric emissions has made it challenging to reconcile pipeline volumetric (bottom-up) estimates with measurement-based (top-down) estimates. Here we simulate pipeline rupture emission rates and integrate these with methane dissolution and sea-surface outgassing estimates to model the evolution of atmospheric emissions from the leaks.

The efficacy of cancer immunotherapy relies on a sufficient amount of functional immune cells. Triple-negative breast cancer lacks enough immune cell infiltration, and adjuvant therapy is necessary to prime anti-tumor immunity. However, the improvement in efficacy is unsatisfactory with concern about inducing systemic immunotoxicity.

Lead azide (LA) is a widely utilized primary explosive, serving as the initiating charge in blasting caps or detonators to start the detonation process of secondary explosives. The toxicity and environmental concerns associated with LA have led to regulatory restrictions and increased scrutiny, prompting the search for lead-free alternatives. LA is highly sensitive toward heat, shock, or friction, which poses safety challenges during manufacturing, handling, and storage.

Depression is commonly associated with gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, such as constipation, which can potentially intensify depressive symptoms. The interplay between these conditions is believed to be facilitated by the gut-brain axis, which suggests a complex bidirectional interaction. Current treatments, such as antidepressants and prokinetics, are often associated with side effects and high recurrence rates, highlighting the need for effective treatments targeting both depression and constipation.
