Mycobacterium paragordonae pulmonary disease with rapidly growing solitary lesions: a case report and literature review.

Introduction: Mycobacterium paragordonae (MPG) is a novel and uncommon nontuberculous mycobacterium (NTM). We describe a case of MPG pulmonary disease (MPGPD) with a single, rapidly growing, pulmonary mass, which has rarely been reported.

Case Report: A chest CT scan of a 66-year-old woman revealed a rapidly growing solitary mass-like lesion in the upper lobe of the right lung, which was not seen in the previous chest CT scan six months ago.

Procalcitonin and C-reactive protein as early predictors in patients at high risk of colorectal anastomotic leakage.

Objective: To assess the diagnostic value of C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT) for anastomotic leakage (AL) following colorectal surgery.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data for patients who underwent colorectal surgery at our hospital between November 2019 and December 2023. CRP and PCT were measured postoperatively to compare patients with/without AL, and changes were compared between low- and high-risk groups.

Methods: The single-cell RNA sequencing and single nucleotide variant principal component analysis data of ovarian cancer were retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets.

Analysis of trajectory changes and predictive factors of sense of coherence in patients after colorectal cancer surgery.

Objective: To investigate the trajectories and potential categories of changes in the sense of coherence (SOC) in patients after colorectal cancer surgery and to analyze predictive factors.

Methods: From January to July 2023, 175 patients with colorectal cancer treated at a tertiary Grade A oncology hospital in Jiangsu Province were selected as the study subjects. Prior to surgery, SOC-13 scale, Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA), Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ), and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) were used to survey the patients.

Effects of prolonged face mask use among patients with hypertension or diabetes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the impacts of prolonged mask use on patients with hypertension or diabetes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: This study included patients with hypertension or diabetes who visited the outpatient department of Nanjing Yimin Hospital between 1 February 2022 and 31 January 2023. We compared the change in blood pressure (BP) and fasting plasma glucose in patients with hypertension or diabetes and adjustments to treatment between the group with prolonged mask-wearing group (≥20 hours/week) and the control group (<20 hours/week).

Comparison of modified tumescent and conventional laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal inguinal hernia repair: a retrospective clinical study.

Objective: Laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) inguinal hernia repair poses certain challenges to less experienced surgeons. This study was performed to compare the clinical outcomes of modified tumescent laparoscopic TAPP (MT-TAPP) inguinal hernia repair versus conventional laparoscopic TAPP (CL-TAPP) inguinal hernia repair.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the perioperative data of patients with inguinal hernias who underwent either MT-TAPP repair (n = 57) or CL-TAPP repair (n = 54) at the General Surgery Department of Nanjing Yimin Hospital from November 2019 to June 2023.

Berberine is a plant-derived natural compound that has shown anti-colon cancer potential. However, berberine's impacts on the tumorigenic functions of tumor exosomes have yet to be evaluated.

Solitary primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma: A case report.

Background: Synovial sarcoma (SS) is an uncommon and highly malignant soft tissue sarcoma in the clinic, with primary pulmonary SS (PPSS) being extremely rare. Here, we describe the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment of a solitary PPSS case confirmed surgical resection and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

Case Summary: A 33-year-old man was admitted because of intermittent coughing and hemoptysis for one month, with lung shadows observed for two years.

Electrochemical Biosensor Based on HRP/TiC/Nafion Film for Determination of Hydrogen Peroxide in Serum Samples of Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction.

Hydrogen peroxide (HO) has been reported to mediate a variety of physiological and pathological processes in living systems. In this work, a biosensor for determination of HO was prepared by using an HRP/TiC/Nafion film-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). TiC nanosheets with remarkable conductivity and high specific surface area were chosen as carriers for HRP.

Background: As an inhibitor of GSDMD, Disulfiram (DSL) can significantly inhibit cell pyroptosis. Cell pyroptosis plays an important role in renal fibrosis.
