Background & Aims: Abnormal expression of long noncoding RNAs is strongly linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). However, the precise molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study explores the roles of noncoding RNA activated by DNA damage (NORAD)/miR-511-3p/Rho-associated protein kinase 2 (Rock2) axis and the NORAD/ROCK2 interaction in the development of MASLD.

Article Synopsis
  • The text talks about a new surgery technique called "firebreak" drainage, which helps treat a serious infection called Fournier's gangrene without removing too much skin.
  • This method involves carefully cutting away infected tissue and then draining the area to help it heal.
  • In a study of 11 patients, all of them recovered, and they spent an average of 22 days in the hospital, with most healing well and keeping their normal body functions!

Li Zhang, BS, is Professor of Nursing, Wound Ostomy Nursing Clinic, The Second Hospital of Nanjing, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, China. Sicong Liu, BS, is Graduate Student, School of Nursing, Nanjing University of TCM, Nanjing.

Radiation therapy is often accompanied by skin toxicity in the irradiated area and radiation-induced DNA damage to skin tissue cells in the surrounding pigmented area. This case report describes a patient with radiation-induced skin injury who received wound treatment and psychological intervention with satisfactory results. A 60-year-old woman was admitted to the authors' hospital on January 18, 2021, with radiation-induced skin injury caused by carbon ion radiotherapy for tonsillar carcinoma.

Background: Alterations in gut microbiota composition and function have been linked to the development and progression of thyroid cancer (TC). However, the exact nature of the causal relationship between them remains uncertain.

Methods: A bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) analysis was conducted to assess the causal connection between gut microbiota (18,340 individuals) and TC (6,699 cases combined with 1,613,655 controls) using data from a genome-wide association study (GWAS).

Background: This study will focus on exploring the clinical characteristics of rectal cancer (RC) patients with Second Primary Malignancies (SPMs) and constructing a prognostic nomogram to provide clinical treatment decisions.

Methods: We determined the association between risk factors and overall survival (OS) while establishing a nomogram to forecast the further OS status of these patients via Cox regression analysis. Finally, we evaluated the performance of the prognostic nomogram to predict further OS status.

We here showed that ADCK1 (AarF domain-containing kinase 1), a mitochondrial protein, is upregulated in human osteosarcoma (OS) tissues and OS cells. In primary and established OS cells, ADCK1 shRNA or CRISPR/Cas9-induced ADCK1 knockout (KO) remarkably inhibited cell viability, proliferation and migration, and provoked apoptosis activation. Conversely, ectopic ADCK1 overexpression exerted pro-cancerous activity by promoting OS cell proliferation and migration.

Various studies have manifested that microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the modulation of the occurrence and development of osteosarcoma (OS). However, whether miR-22-3p is associated with OS growth remains unclear. In the study, the potential molecular mechanisms of miR-22-3p in OS was explored.

Soluble IL-6R-mediated IL-6 trans-signaling activation contributes to the pathological development of psoriasis.

J Mol Med (Berl)

July 2021

Center for Translational Medicine, State Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Life Science & Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Molecular Medicine, Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, 210093, People's Republic of China.

IL-6 has been suggested to function as an autocrine mitogen in the psoriatic epidermis. The biological activity of IL-6 relies on interactions with its receptors, including the membrane-bound IL-6 receptor (mIL-6R) and soluble IL-6 receptor (sIL-6R). Our study presents data showing that the levels of plasma IL-6 and sIL-6R were elevated in psoriatic patients.

Catalpol ameliorates diabetes-induced testicular injury and modulates gut microbiota.

Life Sci

February 2021

Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing 210023, Jiangsu, China; Jiangsu Key Laboratory for Pharmacology and Safety Evaluation of Chinese Materia Medica, Nanjing 210023, Jiangsu, China. Electronic address:

Aims: To explore the mechanisms of diabetes mellitus (DM)-induced testicular injury caused by modulation of testicular glycolysis and gut microbiota (GM), and evaluation of the efficacy of catalpol in reversing testicular morbidity.

Main Methods: A model of DM-induced testicular injury was established using a high-fat diet in KK-Ay mice. Microbial communities in the feces of mice in normal, model and catalpol (Cat) groups were analyzed by 16S gene sequencing.

ShengMaBieJia decoction (SMBJD) is used to treat solid and hematological tumours; however, its anti-angiogenesis activity remains unclear. This study verified the anti-angiogenic effects of SMBJD and in tumour-bearing acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) mouse models. , the chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) and BALB/c null mouse xenograft models were treated with SMBJD (0, 2, 4, and 8 mg/mL) for 48 h and for 2 weeks, respectively.

Background: Early diagnosis of gastric cancer is difficult in China due to the lack of a valid method for endoscopic screening. Early gastric cancer, especially flat gastric cancer, lacks specific endoscopic features. Many cases appear to be similar to ordinary gastritis cases under normal white light endoscopy, which can lead to misdiagnosis.

Background: Growing evidence suggests an independent relationship between habitual snoring and metabolic abnormalities. Currently, there are few data available on the association between snoring and hyperuricemia. Therefore, we evaluated the cross-sectional association between snoring and serum uric acid (UA) concentration and ascertain the effects of different snoring intensities on hyperuricemia among Chinese urban adults in Nanjing.

Drug resistance, including epirubicin-based therapeutic resistance, is one of the major reasons responsible for the unfavorable prognosis of patients diagnosed with breast cancer (BC). Acquired chemoresistance and metastatic properties have been identified to be closely associated with the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Recently, dysregulation of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been increasingly reported to perform promotive or suppressive functions in chemoresistance and EMT process in multiple cancers.
