Glomerular diseases are the leading cause of chronic kidney diseases with the pathomechanisms largely unclear. ANGPT2 is known to regulate endothelial cell homeostasis through TEK/Tie2 and its dysregulation causes endothelial damage. Here, we found that ANGPT2 is upregulated in glomerular diseases and wondered whether it also acts on the other two glomerular cell types, podocytes and mesangial cells.

Background Several lipid-lowering therapies reduce CRP (C-reactive protein) independently of LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) reduction, but the association between CRP parameters and benefits from more-intensive LDL-C lowering is inconclusive. We aimed to determine whether the benefits of more- versus less-intensive LDL-C lowering on cardiovascular events related to baseline, achieved, or magnitude of reduction in CRP concentrations. Methods and Results PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane were searched through July 2, 2018.

[Kallmann syndrome with deafness caused by SOX10 mutation: Advances in research].

Zhonghua Nan Ke Xue

September 2017

PLA Research Institute of Clinical Laboratory Medicine, Jingling Hospital, Nanjing University School of Medicine / Nanjing General Hospital of Nanjing Military Region, Nanjing, Jiangsu 210002, China.

The transcription factor SOX10, as a major actor in the development of the neural crest, plays a key role in the maintenance of progenitor cell multipotency, lineage specification, and cell differentiation. Abnormalities of neural crest development in humans lead to a number of genetic diseases known as neurocristopathies or neural crest disorders. The mutation of SOX10 can cause Kallmann syndrome (KS), which is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous condition and defined by the association between anosmia and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism due to incomplete migration of neuroendocrine gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) cells along the olfactory, vomeronasal, and terminal nerves.

Myosin IIA-related Actomyosin Contractility Mediates Oxidative Stress-induced Neuronal Apoptosis.

Front Mol Neurosci

March 2017

State Key Laboratory of Natural Products, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of TCM Evaluation and Translational Research, Department of Complex Prescription of TCM, China Pharmaceutical University Nanjing, China.

Oxidative stress-induced neuronal apoptosis plays an important role in the progression of central nervous system (CNS) diseases. In our study, when neuronal cells were exposed to hydrogen peroxide (HO), an exogenous oxidant, cell apoptosis was observed with typical morphological changes including membrane blebbing, neurite retraction and cell contraction. The actomyosin system is considered to be responsible for the morphological changes, but how exactly it regulates oxidative stress-induced neuronal apoptosis and the distinctive functions of different myosin II isoforms remain unclear.

We previously showed that bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) inhibit interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) induced degenerative effects in NP cells by their paracrine activity, but the anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effect of BMSC paracrine activity and the relative signaling pathway were not further investigated in annulus fibrosus (AF) cells. In this study, AF cells were exposed to IL-1β, which was applied to mimic intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) . Indirect co-culture with BMSCs in a transwell co-culture system reduced the activity of nuclear factor-κB-p65 (NF-κB-p65) through the restoration of its inhibitor IκBa.

The receptor tyrosine kinase of EphA2 has been shown frequently overexpressed in various types of human carcinomas, which implicated that it plays important roles in carcinogenesis. Although EphA2 protein expression has been investigated in many types of human carcinomas, the relationship between the expression of EphA2 protein in clear cell renal cell carcinoma was not well documented. In the present study, using specific anit-EphA2 polyclonal antibody and immunohistochemistry, we evaluated EphA2 protein expression levels in clear cell RCC specimens surgically resected from 90 patients.
