Previous studies revealed that MIR155HG possessed an oncogenic role in many types of tumors including lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), along with higher expression in tumors. However, in our study, we observed a positive correlation between MIR155HG expression and overall survival across different cohorts. The transferred PBMC on the NCG mouse model abrogated the tumor intrinsic oncogenic role of MIR155HG in LUAD.

Novel antimicrobial strategies are urgently needed to treat extensively drug-resistant (XDR) bacterial infections due to the high mortality rate and lack of effective therapeutic agents. Herein, nanoengineered human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs), named PMZMU, are designed as a sonosensitizer for synergistic sonodynamic-nano-antimicrobial therapy against gram-negative XDR bacteria. PMZMU is composed of a bacterial targeting peptide (UBI) modified hUC-MSCs membrane (MSCm), a sonosensitizer meso-tetra(4-car-boxyphenyl) porphine doped mesoporous organo-silica nanoparticle and an acidity-responsive metal-organic framework ZIF-8.

Background: Undetermined lung nodules are common in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) and lack precise risk stratification. This study aimed to develop a radiomic-based score (Rad-score) to distinguish metastasis and predict overall survival (OS) in patients with LARC and lung nodules.
Methods: Retrospective data from two institutions (July 10, 2006-September 24, 2015) was used to develop and validate the Rad-score for distinguishing lung nodule malignancy.

Drug resistance presents a significant obstacle in treating human ovarian cancer. The development of effective methods for detecting drug-resistant cancer cells is pivotal for tailoring personalized therapies and prognostic assessments. In this investigation, we introduce a dual-mode detection technique employing a fluorogenic aptamer probe for the qualification of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) in drug-resistant ovarian cancer cells.

Background: The prognosis of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients is poor, and the standard first-line treatment for limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC) is still chemotherapy and thoracic radiotherapy. The primary objectives of our study were to confirm the superior efficacy of first-line immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) plus etoposide and platinum (EP) for LS-SCLC and find crucial biomarkers.
Methods: We analyzed LS-SCLC patients from three medical centers, employing propensity score matching for group comparability.

Cancer immunotherapy presents a promising approach to fight against cancer by utilizing the immune system. Recently, engineered microorganisms have emerged as a potential strategy in cancer immunotherapy. These microorganisms, including bacteria and viruses, can be designed and modified using synthetic biology and genetic engineering techniques to target cancer cells and modulate the immune system.

Glioblastoma, the most lethal primary brain tumor, harbors glioma stem cells (GSCs) that not only initiate and maintain malignant phenotypes but also enhance therapeutic resistance. Although frequently mutated in glioblastomas, the function and regulation of PTEN in PTEN-intact GSCs are unknown. Here, we found that PTEN directly interacted with MMS19 and competitively disrupted MMS19-based cytosolic iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster assembly (CIA) machinery in differentiated glioma cells.

Purpose: The controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score is an important tool for predicting the prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC); however, its effectiveness is relatively insufficient. This study aimed to screen for more effective clinical indicators as supplements to the CONUT scoring system and improve the predictive value of CRC prognosis.
Patients And Methods: Between 2014 and 2020, the clinical information of all CRC patients in our unit was retrospectively collected, and the CONUT scores were calculated based on the levels of serum albumin (ALB), lymphocytes (LC), and total cholesterol.

Purpose: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are on the rise, but unfortunately, only a small percentage of patients benefit from them in the long term. Thus, it is crucial to identify biomarkers that can forecast the efficacy of immunotherapy.
Methods: We retrospectively studied 224 patients with NSCLC who underwent anti-PD-1 therapy.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua (Huangjing) is a Chinese herb that is considered by ancient Chinese healers to have the effect of nourishing yin and moisturizing the lungs. It is clinically used to treat diseases of the pulmonary system, including non-small cell lung cancer. However, the precise active components and underlying mechanisms of Huangjing in the context of treating NSCLC remain uncertain.

Chemoresistance is an obstacle of improving pancreatic cancer (PC) prognosis. However, the biological function of ISG15 in PC and whether it correlates with the resistance to chemotherapy are still unknown. Here, we aimed to reveal the clinical significance of ISG15 in PC and its regulatory mechanism in cancer progression and resistance to therapy.

Recent studies have elucidated the potential role of local tumor microbiota in the development and progression of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). However, whether intratumoral microbes are involved in the TIME that mediates the prognosis of LUAD remains unknown.

Background: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy is the standard nonoperative treatment for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. However, local recurrence is still the main failure pattern, accounting for more than half of all treatment failures, indicating that the sensitivity of radiotherapy still needs to be improved. This trial aimed at demonstrating whether PD-1 inhibitors followed by chemoradiotherapy could promote esophageal tumor vascular normalization, alleviate hypoxia, and thus enhance radiosensitivity and improve local control.

Background: The accurate assessment of lymph node metastasis (LNM) is crucial for the staging, treatment, and prognosis of lung cancer. In this study, we explored the potential value of dual-layer spectral detector computed tomography (SDCT) quantitative parameters in the prediction of LNM in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: In total, 91 patients presenting with solid solitary pulmonary nodules (8 mm < diameter ≤30 mm) with pathologically confirmed NSCLC (57 without LNM, and 34 with LNM) were enrolled in the study.

Cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. While numerous factors have been identified as contributing to the development of malignancy, our understanding of the mechanisms involved remains limited. Early cancer detection and the development of effective treatments are therefore critical areas of research.

An inverted insertion in the intron 15 ( variant) has been reported to be associated with reduced MUTYH1 expression and mitochondrial dysfunction with age. However, the underlying mechanism remains unknown. In this study, we identified a novel transcript associated with the variant, which revealed that this transcript is about 780 nucleotides in length with a poly-A tail, lacks protein-coding potential, referred to as lncMUTYH.
