Background: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are still a major health threats worldwide. Traditional surveillance methods involving manual surveillance by infection control practitioners (ICPs) for data collection processes are laborious, inefficient, and generate data of variable quality. In this study, we sought to evaluate the impact of surveillance and interaction platform system (SIPS) for HAIs surveillance compared to manual survey in tertiary general hospitals.

This case-control study explored the relationship between SNPs in miR-221 and self-reported essential hypertension, as well as interactions between genetic and environmental factors, in a multiethnic Chinese cohort. A MassArray analysis was performed to genotype 462 patients with essential hypertension and 442 healthy participants. The association between four SNPs in miR-221 and essential hypertension risk was determined by investigating the differences in allelic and genotypic frequencies between case and control groups using PLINK version 1.

p110α is an important subunit of phosphatidylinositol-3-kinases (PI3Ks) encoded by . Though PI3Ks are known as crucial regulators of cellular growth and proliferation, the function of mutations in fulvestrant resistance remains elusive. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the roles of mutations in fulvestrant resistance and tumor progression.

Recent evidences suggested that miRNAs process key roles in the biological behaviors and the development of prostate carcinoma (PC). However, its molecular mechanism in PC is still remained largely unclear. In this study, the expression level of miR-188 and the protein expression of MARCKS were detected by RT-PCR and western blot, respectively.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have great value in research on tumour targeted therapy, including for glioma. In the present study, we investigated the role of the lncRNA deleted in lymphocytic leukaemia 2 (lncRNA-DLEU2) in glioma. First, we found that lncRNA-DLEU2 is highly expressed in glioma tissues and cell lines.

The present study shows that maternal deletion of (also commonly known as ) in mouse embryos causes early embryonic developmental arrest in vitro at the 2-cell-stage. Transcriptomics and proteomics analyses of 2-cell-stage embryos in mice reveal that deletion of IMP2 downregulates the expression of and , both of which are required for early embryonic developmental competence.

Glioma is one of the most prevalent primary malignant brain tumours among adults, and accumulating evidence has shown that dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) is associated with various types of cancers, including glioma. It is necessary to gain a better understanding of the roles and mechanisms of action of miRNAs in WNT-driven glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Here, we report that miR-206 inhibits the WNT/β-catenin pathway by directly targeting Frizzled 7 () mRNA and functions as a tumour suppressor in glioma.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common clinical syndrome with high morbidity and mortality, which is mostly caused by acute tubular necrosis (ATN). AKI is associated with many factors, including cell senescence, inflammatory infiltration, apoptosis and excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). P16 (hereafter termed p16) inhibits cell cycle, and the absence of can significantly slow the progression of cell senescence.

Kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1) is a type I membrane protein, comprising an extracellular portion and a cytoplasmic portion. It is also named as HAVCR1 (Hepatitis A virus cellular receptor 1) or TIM1 (T-cell immunoglobulin mucin receptor 1), and is expressed in the kidney, liver, and spleen. KIM-1 plays different roles via various molecular targets in immune diseases and kidney injury.

Visceral obesity is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disorders and lacks effective, non-drug based clinical therapy. The use of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) to treat chronic pain and bone fracture is well-known, but its application for visceral obesity treatment has not been studied. Here, we evaluated the therapeutic potential of LIPUS by studying its effects, at varying doses, on human omental adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs).

Myocardial injury is often observed during diabetes, but the nature physiological association is unclear. Here, we investigated the protective effective of diosgenin glucoside (DG), a pharmacologically active saponin extracted from , against myocardial injury in type 2 diabetic (db/db) mice and its molecular mechanism of action. Levels of serum and myocardial tissues, blood glucose and inflammatory cytokines, as well as cardiac function indicators, of db/db mice were measured, and DG's mechanism of action was evaluated by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs that could regulate gene expressions transcriptionally or post-transcriptionally through binding to 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), which were identified to be associated with tumorigenesis in various neoplasms. Among them, miR-101, encoded by two precursor transcripts (miR-101-1 and miR-101-2), was recognized to serve as a tumor suppressor via targeting critical oncogenes or anti-oncogenes. Additionally, studies have shown that miR-101 was participated in multiple cancer-related biological processes, including proliferation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, drug resistance, invasion and metastasis.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a novel type of non-coding RNAs, presented as covalently closed continuous loops. Recent researches had found that circRNAs could function as microRNA sponges, regulators of gene transcription and encoding proteins. They were relatively stable and expressed widely in cytoplasm, which played important roles in carcinogenesis of cancers, such as esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, hepatocarcinoma, bladder cancer, glioma, breast cancer, osteosarcoma and so on.
