Cancer has emerged as a pressing global public health issue, and improving the effectiveness of cancer treatment remains one of the foremost challenges of modern medicine. The primary clinical methods of treating cancer, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, inevitably result in some adverse effects on the body. However, the advent of photothermal therapy offers an alternative route for cancer treatment.

As a non-invasive cancer treatment, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has great applications in superficial tumors because of its high selectivity and low cumulative toxicity. However, the poor tumor-targeting ability and short blood circulation time of conventional photosensitizers (PSs) limit the efficacy of PDT to some extent. In this study, we synthesized flexible hollow human serum albumin (HHSA) and loaded photosensitizer Chlorin e6 (Ce6) and the chemotherapeutic drug Doxorubicin (DOX) for synergistic cancer therapy.

Due to the limitations resulting from hypoxia and the self-aggregation of photosensitizers, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has not been applied clinically to treat most types of solid tumors. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is a common metal-organic framework that has ultra-high porosity, an adjustable structure, good biocompatibility, and pH-induced biodegradability. In this review, we summarize the applications of ZIF-8 and its derivatives in PDT.

The morbidity and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks fourth worldwide, moreover, the tumor microenvironment (TME) of CRC is quite complex, and is one of the necessary factors affecting promotion of tumor metastasis. PTPN2 is a tumor suppressor which plays an important role in cancer-related downstream molecular pathway. FSP-1 is highly-expressed in multiple types of tumor tissues and is a biomarker of stromal fibroblasts.

Objective: To test the correlation of helper T lymphocytes (CD3+/CD4+), and cytokeratin 18 fragment (CK-18) with glucose and lipid metabolism in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Methods: A total of 108 patients with T2DM hospitalized in Geriatrics, Taizhou People's Hospital from August 2019 to December 2020 were obtained and grouped into' Non-NAFLD group (58 patients) and NAFLD group (50 patients) according to the patients' conditions. Another 50 healthy people were obtained as the control group (CG).

Although previous studies have found that extracts have the ability to directly resist tumor proliferation and reduce metastasis and invasion, the effect of the extracts of fruiting body (GLE) on cancer is not clarified. This study intends to investigate the anticancer role of GLE on HCT116 colorectal cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. The effects of GLE on the proliferation, apoptosis, autophagy and cell cycle arrest of HCT116 cells were detected by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), flow cytometry, electron microscope, quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot assay.

Suppression effect of N-acetylcysteine on bone loss in ovariectomized mice.

Oxidative stress can trigger DNA damage response and activation of cellular senescence. Accumulating studies have demonstrated that senescent cells can produce senescence-associated secretory phenotype that leads to increased bone resorption and decreased bone formation. And elimination of senescent cells or inhibition of SASP secretion has been shown to prevent bone loss in mice.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory potential of the natural flavonoid apigenin to mitigate the airway inflammation in asthmatic mice exposed to particulate matter (PM) 2.5, and examine the possible mechanisms involved. BALB/c mice were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin (OVA), then administered apigenin at a dose of 20 mg/kg/day, followed by PM2.

Osteoarthritis not only results in cartilage lesion, but also is accompanied with subchondral bone damage caused by the inflammatory response. It is of great significance to treat osteoarthritis by regulating the immune response. As copper (Cu) plays an essential role in immune response and anti-arthritis, a copper-incorporated bioactive glass-ceramics (Cu-BGC) may achieve the aim of healing cartilage lesion and reducing inflammatory response caused by osteoarthritis.

Due to their high heterogeneity and complex tumor microenvironment, the treatment of solid tumors by CAR-T cell technology is limited. This study developed bi-specific Trop2/PD-L1 specific third-generation CAR-T cells by lentiviral infection. The specific killing ability of the bi-specific CAR-T cells against Trop2 and PD-L1 expressed on the gastric cancer cell line by CCK-8 assay, was confirmed .

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have great value in research on tumour targeted therapy, including for glioma. In the present study, we investigated the role of the lncRNA deleted in lymphocytic leukaemia 2 (lncRNA-DLEU2) in glioma. First, we found that lncRNA-DLEU2 is highly expressed in glioma tissues and cell lines.

The aim of this study was to determine whether vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) promoted the mobilization and recruitment of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) to protect kidneys from ischemia and reperfusion injury (IRI) in male rats. At 24 h and 72 h after reperfusion, serum samples were respectively collected for renal function. Besides, kidney tissues were harvested to observe renal morphology changes.

This study aims to investigate the extravascular lung water index (EVLWI) in lung water scavenging of sepsis patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) by renal replacement therapy (RRT). 57 septic acute kidney injury patients with EVLWI > 7 ml/kg were selected and randomly divided into two groups: the treatment group with continued RRT for 24 h per day, the control group with RRT for ≤8 h per day. Fluid resuscitation and RRT were performed simultaneously.

We evaluated the diagnostic value of hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 beta (HNF-1β) and napsin A for diagnosing ovarian clear cell carcinoma. Immunohistochemical EnVision was used to measure HNF-1β and napsin A expression in 38 cases of ovarian clear cell carcinoma, 30 cases of high-grade serous carcinoma, 22 cases of endometrioid adenocarcinoma, and 16 metastatic Krukenberg tumor cases. Then we found that HNF-1β appeared in all ovarian clear cell carcinoma and was less common in high-grade serous and endometrioid adenocarcinoma (P < 0.

SOD2 rs4880 CT/CC genotype predicts poor survival for Chinese gastric cancer patients received platinum and fluorouracil based adjuvant chemotherapy.

Am J Transl Res

April 2015

Department of Oncology, Nanjing First Hospital, Nanjing Medical University Nanjing 210006, China ; Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Personalized Medicine, Nanjing Medical University Nanjing 210029, China.

Adjuvant chemotherapy is a standard therapy for gastric cancer patients, however, treatment response is quite heterogeneous. Molecular biomarkers will be highly valuable to guide the therapy and predict the response and prognosis in these patients. The antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2) and glutathione S-transferase pi 1 (GSTP1) are involved in oxidative stress and drug detoxification, which modulate the efficacy of anticancer drugs.
