Background: Collagen, a primary protein component of the extracellular matrix (ECM), undergoes a notable series of alterations concomitant with the growth of the tumor. Procollagen-lysine,2-oxoglutarate 5-dioxygenase 3 (PLOD3) is involved in the synthesis of collagen and has been associated with a variety of cancers. However, it is unclear how PLOD3 functions in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the potential therapeutic role of Elabela (ELA) in mitigating the sepsis-induced inflammatory storm, a phenomenon commonly associated with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and increased mortality. Our findings show the pathogenesis of sepsis, identifying ELA as a promising therapeutic target.

Methods: We conducted a comprehensive analysis of electronic medical records and blood samples from septic patients to assess the incidence of severe organ complication and characterize the inflammatory response.

Bronchial asthma is not considered a singular disease, but rather a collection of syndromes with multiple phenotypes and mechanisms that involve various signaling pathways. It typically emerges during the preschool years, and its etiology is intricate and diverse. In recent years, the advancement of high-throughput sequencing technology has revealed that early alterations in lung microbiota may be associated with asthma incidence and progression.

This study aimed to examine the effect of subanesthetic esketamine on postoperative fatigue in patients who underwent laparoscopic colorectal surgery. A total of 62 patients, including 32 in the esketamine group and 30 in the control group, were analysed in this study. Compared with the control group, the patients in the esketamine group had reduced Identity-Consequence Fatigue Scale (ICFS) on the 3rd and 7th days after surgery (<0.

Postoperative fatigue is prevalent, but non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients receive poor treatment after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). The main objective of the present trial is to observe the anti-fatigue function of pregabalin in NSCLC patients after surgery. Patients requiring VATS pneumonectomy were randomized into two groups (n=33): the experimental and control groups.

Objective: To investigate the predictive value of N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), procalcitonin and central venous pressure (CVP) for new atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery.

Methods: Patients underwent cardiac surgery in Huai'an First People's Hospital from June 2019 to December 2020 were enrolled in this study. Patients without POAF after surgery were included in the control group, and patients with POAF after surgery were included in the POAF group.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is widely known as a highly fatal cancer, and thus it is important to identify tumor-specific and radiosensitivity-specific markers in ESCC. B cell translocation gene 2 (BTG2) has been considered a novel tumor suppressor gene or radiotherapy sensitivity-associated gene. However, the relationship between BTG2 and ESCC development and radiotherapy sensitivity is uncertain.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a clinically common inflammatory disease, NF-κB activation and the secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators have been considered as the main events of AP. According to reports, TAB3 is essential for NF-κB activation and participates in inflammatory responses. In this study, we used caerulein to establish an AP rat model and cell model.

Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome caused by infection. Septic patients often show an acute liver dysfunction during the onset of sepsis in ICU. We found the levels of ALT, AST, TBIL increased significantly in septic patients and returned after recovery from sepsis in our ICU (P<0.

Ischemic stroke has been considered to be one of the major causes of disability worldwide which related to multiple pathological processes including apoptosis. Metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1), is one of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) know as a regulator for cell apoptosis. However, further and deeper cellular and molecular mechanism in stroke model remains unclear.

Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone tumor, which severely threatens the health of adolescents and young adults. Tumor-infiltrating macrophages have been shown to mediate cancer progression extracellular vesicles. However, their potential mechanisms in osteosarcoma progression and in drug-resistance are still not yet known.

Does Circular RNA Exert Significant Effects in Ovarian Cancer?

Crit Rev Eukaryot Gene Expr

February 2020

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

Circular RNA, also called circRNA, is a type of widespread RNA that is mainly derived from the spliceosome, from which DNA is transcribed into messenger RNA (mRNA). CircRNAs are characterized by the formation of a covalently closed continuous loop, and they play a variety of gene regulatory roles. CircRNAs were initially thought to represent splicing errors, but an increasing amount of evidence indicates that they may play significant roles in a variety of human diseases, including cancers, cardiovascular disease, neurological disorders, and pre-eclampsia.

Background: Pomegranate ellagic polyphenols (PEP) has been used as a good medicine in many cultures throughout history. However, the mechanism of PEP regulated insulin resistance on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) rats is unclear. The main purpose of the present study was to explore the efficacy and mechanisms of PEP regulated in GDM rats.

Lung cancer is one of the most common human cancers and is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Previous studies have suggested that IL-22 might promote the survival of human lung cancer cells. However, the source of IL-22 and the regulatory mechanism of lung cancer cell proliferation remain unclear.

Objective: Growing evidence supports the involvement of Thyroid hormone Receptor Interactor 13 (TRIP13) in the progression and metastasis of multiple cancers. However, the roles of TRIP13 in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) remains unknown. The present study aimed to investigate the expression pattern and biological function as well as the underlying molecular mechanism.

Cervical cancer (CC) is a malignant solid tumor, which is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in women. Given that autophagy is an important factor promoting tumor progression, we aim to investigate the functional role of miR-338 in autophagy and proliferation of cervical cancer. In our study, expression of miR-338 was validated by quantitative RT-PCR in 30 paired cervical cancer tissues and normal tissues.

Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 4 (CCL4) and vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) are involved in the progression and metastasis of some tumors, including ovarian cancer, colon cancer and prostate cancer. However, the roles of CCL4 and VEGF-A in human endometrial cancer (EC) are still unclear. Here, we demonstrated that the production of CCL4 and VEGF-A was significantly higher in EC tissues than in normal tissues, and their expression profiles were associated with the clinical stage of EC.

Laryngeal cancers are mostly squamous cell carcinomas. Although targeting radio-resistant cancer cells is important for improving the treatmental efficiency, the signaling pathway- and therapeutic strategy-related to laryngeal carcinoma still require further study. Galangin is an active pharmacological ingredient, isolated from propolis and Alpinia officinarum Hance, and has been reported to have anticancer and anti-oxidative properties through regulation of cell cycle, resulting in angiogenesis, apoptosis, invasion and migration without triggering any toxicity in normal cells.

Pyroptosis is a programmed cell death associated with caspase-1 and accompanied by the secretion of a large number of pro-inflammatory cytokines. In the acute stage of sepsis, the release of several pro-inflammatory cytokines aggravates hepatic cell death, and acute liver injury is aggravated with the progress of the disease, resulting in acute liver failure with a very high mortality rate. The present study investigated the effect of inhibiting hepatic cell pyroptosis on the septic acute liver injury.
