Objective: The evidence for a relationship between the ratio of gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is currently inadequate. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the GGT/HDL-c ratio and NAFLD.
Materials And Methods: This study is a prospective cohort study that recruited a total of 11,891 non-obese volunteers in a Chinese hospital from January 2010 to December 2014 in a non-selective manner.

Background: Spontaneous portosystemic shunts(SPSSs) in cirrhotic patients indicate higher incidence of gastric varices, which increases the risk for bleeding and death. However, few studies compared endoscopic therapy with transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) in preventing variceal rebleeding in cirrhotic patients with SPSSs. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the two methods in this group of patients.

Department of Gastroenterology, Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University, Jinan, Shandong Province, China.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) and non-TIPS therapy (endoscopy and/or nonselective beta-blockers [NSBB]) in patients with cirrhosis and active variceal hemorrhage who did not respond to high-dose vasoactive drugs and required balloon tamponade for hemostasis.
Methods: Medical records of cirrhotic patients who did not respond to high-dose vasoactive drugs and required balloon tamponade for hemostasis at five university hospitals in China between January 2011 and December 2018 were reviewed. Treatment outcomes were compared between the TIPS and the non-TIPS groups.

Background And Objective: Currently, monitoring hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) have been proved to be the best predictor for the risk of variceal bleeding. We performed the study to evaluate the effect of endoscopic therapy + β-blocker vs. covered transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) for the prevention of variceal rebleeding in cirrhotic patients with HVPG ≥16 mmHg.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of diabetes mellitus (DM) on the rate of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis after the creation of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS).
Patients And Methods: This study retrospectively reviewed 436 consecutive patients with cirrhosis receiving TIPS in our department from 2008 to 2016. By comparing two groups of patients, with or without DM, the incidence of developing overt HE after TIPS, as well as the correlation between diabetes and HE, was analyzed.

Background: Lipid profiles disorders frequently occur in patients with chronic liver diseases, and the mortality of cirrhosis complicated with portal vein thrombosis (PVT) remains high. Research identifying simple and objective prognosis indicators for cirrhotic PVT has been limited. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between lipid profiles and liver function, which may help predict the 1-year mortality in non-malignant cirrhosis with PVT.

Background And Aims: Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is an effective intervention for portal hypertensive complications in cirrhosis. Spontaneous portosystemic shunts (SPSSs) may increase the risk of post-TIPS complications and mortality. This study was done to evaluate the safety and efficacy of TIPS for treating variceal bleeding between patients with and without SPSSs.

Objective: Propranolol is always titrated to the maximum tolerated dose to prevent gastroesophageal variceal bleeding. However, some patients do not achieve a hemodynamic response and experience more intolerance and discontinuation. This study evaluated the dose-dependent effect of propranolol on hemodynamic response and tolerance in cirrhotic patients.
