Patients with gastric cancer often experience weight loss. A meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the association between weight loss and survival outcomes in gastric cancer patients. We searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science according to the PECOS criteria: population (gastric cancer patients), exposure (weight loss), comparator (weight stable), outcomes [overall survival (OS) or recurrence-free survival], and study design (cohort studies).

Background: Previous studies have reported inconsistent results on the association between serum prealbumin level and survival outcomes in patients with gastric cancer. This meta-analysis aimed to determine the serum prealbumin level as a biomarker of survival outcomes in gastric cancer patients.
Methods: Two independent reviewers conducted a thorough search of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases until April 17, 2024.

Background: The study aimed to evaluate the positivity rates and genotype distribution of the multiplex PCR capillary electrophoresis (MPCE) and PCR-Reverse Dot Blot (PCR-RDB) assays for human papillomavirus (HPV) detection in cervical cancer tissue specimens, and to explore their detection principles and applications in large-scale population screening.
Methods: The MPCE and PCR-RDB assays were performed separately on 425 diagnosed cervical cancer tissue specimens. Subsequently, the results of both assays were compared based on the HPV infection positivity rates and genotype distribution.

The cachexia index is a novel indicator of cachexia, but its prognostic implications for survival outcomes have not been systematically assessed in patients with gastrointestinal cancer. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the association between the cachexia index and survival outcomes in gastrointestinal cancer patients. Two independent reviewers searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science to identify studies that evaluated the prognostic significance of the cachexia index in patients with gastrointestinal cancer.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) presents a growing concern globally, marked by its escalating incidence and mortality rates, thus imposing a substantial health burden. This investigation delves into the role of nuclear receptor subfamily 3 group C member 1 (NR3C1) in CRC metastasis and explores the associated mechanism. Through a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis, NR3C1 emerged as a gene with diminished expression levels in CRC.

Introduction: Cancer cachexia is a complex problem characterized by weight loss due to skeletal muscle and adipose tissue reduction. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to examine the association between cancer cachexia and adverse outcomes in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in the PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases from their inception to January 15, 2024.

Objective: To explore the prognostic role of frailty in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) by conducting this systematic review and meta-analysis METHODS: We conducted an extensive literature search on PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Embase databases to identify studies that reported the association of frailty with postoperative complications, reintervention, or all-cause mortality in patients with AAA after surgery. Short-term mortality was defined by a combination of in-hospital and 30-day death.
Results: Seven cohort studies reporting on 9 articles with 323,788 AAA patients were included.

Cisplatin nephrotoxicity is an etiological factor for acute kidney injury (AKI). MicroRNA (miRNA) expression is dysregulated in cisplatin-induced AKI (cAKI) although the underlying mechanisms are unclear. A cAKI model was established by intraperitoneally injecting cisplatin, and key miRNAs were screened using high-throughput miRNA sequencing.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) continues to be a major contributor to cancer-related mortality. Connexin 40 (CX40) is one of the major gap junction proteins with the capacity in regulating cell-to-cell communication and angiogenesis. This study investigates its role in angiogenesis in CRC and explores the regulatory mechanism.

Background: A growing number of studies have shown that Yin Yang 1 (YY1) promotes the development of multiple tumours. The purpose of the current study was to determine the mechanism by which YY1 mediates neuroendocrine differentiation of prostate cancer (NEPC) cells undergoing cellular plasticity.
Methods: Using the Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases, we bioinformatically analyzed YY1 expression in prostate cancer (PCa).

Introduction: Liver X receptors (LXRs) have emerged as novel targets for tumor treatment. LXRs within the tumor microenvironment show the capacity to impact tumorigenesis and tumor development by regulating the infiltration of immune cells and release of cytokines to moderate inflammation.
Areas Covered: In this review, we present a systematic description of recent progress in understanding the impact of LXRs on the tumor microenvironment and tumorigenesis.

Background: Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) of the renal is extremely rare. The common cause of ectopic ACTH syndrome is pulmonary neuroendocrine tumors, such as small cell carcinomas and carcinoid tumors. Here, we present an unusual case of ectopic ACTH syndrome and hypothyroidism caused by Ewing sarcoma/PNET of the right kidney.

This case sought to manage a duodenal fistula patient who underwent an open abdomen with vacuum-assisted temporary abdominal closure (VAC) by evaluating his tolerance to early enteral nutrition therapy (ENT). A review of the patient suggested that he developed an abdominal infection as a result of a high duodenal fistula, which necessitated an open abdomen and VAC. Prior to the initiation of ENT, the patient had a patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA) score of 8 (1st day) suggesting the need for nutritional intervention.

The rapid development of multiple high-throughput sequencing technologies has made it possible to explore the critical roles and mechanisms of functional enhancers and enhancer RNAs (eRNAs). The inflammatory immune response, as a fundamental pathological process in infectious diseases, cancers and immune disorders, coordinates the balance between the internal and external environment of the organism. It has been shown that both active enhancers and intranuclear eRNAs are preferentially expressed over inflammation-related genes in response to inflammatory stimuli, suggesting that enhancer transcription events and their products influence the expression and function of inflammatory genes.

In renal clear cell carcinoma, a common cancer of the urinary system, 25-30% patients are metastatic at initial diagnosis and 20-30% patients have a tendency of recurrence and metastasis after local surgery. With the rapid development of tumor immunology, immune agents have brought new directions to tumor therapy. However, no relevant studies have explored the role of immune-related genes in kidney cancer metastasis.

Aim: To assess the effect of preoperative blood glucose (POBG) levels on the length of stay (LOS) in patients with kidney stones undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL).
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of patients who underwent PCNL at the Zhongda Hospital of Southeast University from 2013 to 2019. The relationship between POBG level and LOS was investigated by dose-response analysis curves of restricted cubic spline function.
