June 2024

Department of General Surgery, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, 210008, China.

Objectives: Lymph node metastasis (LNM) in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients is not only associated with the tumor's local pathological characteristics but also with systemic factors. This study aims to assess the feasibility of using body composition and pathological features to predict LNM in early stage colorectal cancer (eCRC) patients.

Methods: A total of 192 patients with T1 CRC who underwent CT scans and surgical resection were retrospectively included in the study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to identify potential causal cytokines in thymic malignancies and benign tumors from the FinnGen database using Mendelian randomization (MR).

Methods: In this study, data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of 91 cytokines were used as exposure factors, and those of thymic malignant tumors and thymic benign tumors were the outcome variables. Two methods were used to determine the causal relationship between exposure factors and outcome variables: inverse variance weighting (IVW) and MR-Egger regression.

Tumor vaccines are a promising avenue in cancer immunotherapy. Despite the progress in targeting specific immune epitopes, tumor cells lacking these epitopes can evade the treatment. Here, we aimed to construct an efficient tumor vaccine called Vac-SM, utilizing shikonin (SKN) to induce immunogenic cell death (ICD) and as an immune adjuvant to enhance tumor vaccine efficacy.

Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, Peking Union Medical College Graduate School, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, 210008, China.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a fatal malignancy with poor prognosis due to lack of effective clinical interference. DCAF1 plays a vital role in regulating cell growth and proliferation, and is involved in the progression of various malignancies. However, the function of DCAF1 in HCC development and the underlying mechanism are still unknown.

Objective: Postoperative coronal decompensation and less fusion level are dilemmas and the proper selective posterior fusion (SPF) strategy should be investigated. We proposed a parameter, modified S-line, and aimed to investigate if the modified S-line could predict postoperative coronal decompensation in patients with Lenke 5C adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).

Methods: This is a retrospective radiographic study and Lenke 5C AIS patients undergoing SPF during the period from September 2017 to June 2021 were included.

Background: Colorectal signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) is a rare cancer with a bleak prognosis. The relationship between its clinicopathological features and survival remains incompletely elucidated. Tumor deposits (TD) have been utilized to guide the N staging in the 8th edition of American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging manual, but their prognostic significance remains to be established in colorectal SRCC.

: Liver inflammation is important in guiding the initiation of antiviral treatment and affects the progression of chronic hepatitis B(CHB). The soluble programmed cell death 1 protein (sPD-1) was upregulated in inflammatory and infectious diseases and correlated with disease severity. We aimed to investigate the correlation between serum sPD-1 levels and liver inflammation in CHB patients and their role in indicating liver inflammation.

Major zygotic genome activation (ZGA) occurs at the late 2-cell stage and involves the activation of thousands of genes, supporting early embryonic development. The reasons underlying the regulation of ZGA are not clear. Acetylation modifications of histone tails promote transcriptional activation, and the maternal deletion of H4K16ac leads to failure in ZGA.

December 2024

Department of Infectious Diseases, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, People's Republic of China.

Serum hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) level < 100 IU/ml and undetectable hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA have been recently proposed as an alternate endpoint of "partial cure" in chronic hepatitis B (CHB). We investigated clinical outcomes of hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-negative CHB patients with HBsAg <100 IU/ml and undetectable HBV DNA. Treatment-naïve HBeAg-negative CHB patients with undetectable HBV DNA and normal alanine aminotransferase were retrospectively included from three institutions.
