The potential lipid biomarker 5-HETE for acute exacerbation identified by metabolomics in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Respirology

December 2024

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.

Background And Objective: Acute exacerbation (AE) is often the fatal complication of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Emerging evidence indicates that metabolic reprogramming and dysregulation of lipid metabolism are distinctive characteristics of IPF. However, the lipid metabolic mechanisms that underlie the pathophysiology of AE-IPF remain elusive.

Purpose: Hyperuricemia has traditionally been associated with obesity and dyslipidemia. However, the relationship between waist circumference (WC) and hyperuricemia in normal-weight men is still unclear, particularly regarding the roles of triglycerides (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). The aim of this research was to explore the mediating roles of TG and HDL-C in the association between WC and hyperuricemia in normal-weight men.

Autoimmune thyroiditis (AITD) is a prevalent autoimmune disorder characterized by the immune system's attack on thyroid tissue, potentially leading to thyroid dysfunction, with a current lack of effective treatment modalities. Lactoferrin, a crucial functional dietary component obtainable from food sources, primarily exists in mammalian milk. We aim to investigate whether dietary supplementation with lactoferrin can protect the thyroid in Experimental Autoimmune Thyroiditis (EAT) rats.

Aliment Pharmacol Ther

November 2024

Department of Infectious Diseases, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.

Background: Serum hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) < 100 IU/mL has been recently proposed as one of the key criteria of 'partial cure' in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. We analysed the clinical prognosis of hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-negative untreated patients with HBsAg < 100 IU/mL and normal alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels.

Methods: Five hundred and twenty-one untreated patients with HBeAg negativity, HBsAg < 100 IU/mL and normal ALT levels were included from three hospitals.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) persists as a dominant cause of cancer-related mortality globally, with a notably rapid escalation in mortality rates. The advent of immunotherapy, particularly immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), has ushered in a new era in the management of liver cancer, albeit with unresolved challenges in the context of treatment beyond progression (TBP) and stratified prognosis in diverse populations. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel nomogram model to identify factors that predict the benefit of continued immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma patients following disease progression in clinical practice.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study used Mendelian randomization to investigate the causal links between metabolites and embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS).
  • - By analyzing GWAS data, the research identified X-11593--O-methylascorbate as a protective factor and various lipoprotein and cholesterol-related metabolites as risk factors for ESUS.
  • - The findings suggest that certain metabolites, particularly those related to LDL and VLDL, are significantly associated with the risk of developing ESUS.

As one of the three major malignant tumors, lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), with its rapid progression and high mortality rate, has become the most dangerous factor endangering human health. This study aims to explore new potential molecular targets, explore the regulatory role of lncRNA APTR in LUAD, and provide a more theoretical basis for the selection of LUAD therapeutic targets. The expression of APTR in LUAD was detected by PCR experiments, and the relationship between APTR and patients' clinical conditions and prognosis was analyzed by chi-square test, multifactor Cox regression, and Kaplan-Meier.
