Introduction: Hybrid architectures based on convolutional neural networks and Transformers, effectively captures both the local details and the overall structural context of lesion tissues and cells, achieving highly competitive segmentation results in microscopic hyperspectral image (MHSI) segmentation tasks. However, the fixed tokenization schemes and single-dimensional feature extraction and fusion in existing methods lead to insufficient global feature extraction in hyperspectral pathology images.

Methods: Base on this, we propose a multi-scale token divided and spatial-channel fusion transformer network (MT-SCnet) for MHSIs segmentation.

Neurological disorders encompassing both central nervous system (CNS) diseases and peripheral nerve injuries (PNI), represent significant challenges in modern clinical practice. Conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, and carpal tunnel syndrome can cause debilitating impairments, leading to reduced quality of life and placing a heavy burden on healthcare systems. Current treatment strategies, including pharmacological interventions and surgical procedures, often yield limited results, and many patients experience suboptimal outcomes or treatment-associated risks.

Article Synopsis
  • DNA damage from oxidative stress triggers ATM-mediated DNA damage response in cardiac hypertrophy, worsening heart cell growth.
  • A study identified a long noncoding RNA, AK144717, which increases during cardiac hypertrophy and plays a role in DNA damage response.
  • Silencing AK144717 produces effects similar to an ATM inhibitor, suggesting it interacts with HMGB1 to regulate heart cell growth and could be a new target for treatment.

  • The study investigates a genetic variant (p.Arg90His) in the neutrophil cytosolic factor 1 gene related to systemic lupus erythematosus and its association with systemic sclerosis (SSc).
  • Data from diverse cohorts indicate that the -H90 allele significantly increases the risk of developing diffuse cutaneous SSc and lung fibrosis in affected patients.
  • Findings reveal that this variant enhances profibrotic responses in blood monocytes and macrophages, contributing to the severity of lung fibrosis, both in mouse models and human patients with SSc.

The application of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on stem cells therapy to treat various diseases.

Stem Cell Res Ther

August 2024

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, The Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University, No. 139 Ziqiang Road, Shijiazhuang, Hebei, 050051, PR China.

In the last ten years, stem cell (SC) therapy has been extensively used to treat a range of conditions such as degenerative illnesses, ischemia-related organ dysfunction, diabetes, and neurological disorders. However, the clinical application of these therapies is limited due to the poor survival and differentiation potential of stem cells (SCs). Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), as a non-invasive therapy, has shown great application potential in enhancing the proliferation, differentiation, migration, and recruitment of stem cells, offering new possibilities for utilizing ESWT in conjunction with stem cells for the treatment of different systemic conditions.

MVP enhances FGF21-induced ferroptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma by increasing lipid peroxidation through regulation of NOX4.

Clin Transl Sci

August 2024

Division of Hepatobiliary and Transplantation Surgery, Department of General Surgery, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital Clinical College of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, China.

Ferroptosis is a novel, iron-dependent regulatory cell death mainly caused by an imbalance between the production and degradation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). Recently, ferroptosis induction has been considered a potential therapeutic approach for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is a new modulator of ferroptosis; however, the regulatory role of FGF21 in HCC ferroptosis has not been investigated.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) combined with chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) are a promising therapeutic strategy. NSAIDs can effectively boost the antitumor efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents by inhibiting the synthesis of COX-2. However, hazardous side effects and barriers to oral drug absorption are the main challenges for combination therapy with chemotherapeutics and NSAIDs.

Background: In the first interim analysis of the ORIENT-31 trial, compared with chemotherapy alone, sintilimab plus bevacizumab biosimilar IBI305 plus chemotherapy (pemetrexed and cisplatin) significantly improved progression-free survival in patients with EGFR-mutated non-squamous non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who progressed on EGFR tyrosine-kinase inhibitor treatment. However, the benefit of anti-PD-1 or PD-L1 antibody added to chemotherapy in this patient population remains unclear, with no prospective evidence from phase 3 trials globally. We report the results from the prespecified second interim analysis of progression-free survival between sintilimab plus chemotherapy and chemotherapy alone, the updated results of sintilimab plus IBI305 plus chemotherapy, and preliminary overall survival results.

Over the last several decades, radiotherapy has been considered the primary treatment option for a broad range of cancer types, aimed at prolonging patients' survival and slowing down tumor regression. However, therapeutic outcomes of radiotherapy remain limited, and patients suffer from relapse shortly after radiation. Neutrophils can initiate an immune response to infection by releasing cytokines and chemokines to actively combat pathogens.
