Background And Purpose: Long-term dietary patterns can influence the intensity of systemic inflammation and, therefore, the development of atherosclerosis. This study aimed to evaluate the association between dietary inflammatory index (DII) and vulnerability characteristics of carotid atherosclerotic plaques in patients with ischemic stroke.

Methods: Patients with ischemic stroke within 7 days of onset were enrolled.

Background: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is closely associated with emotional dysregulation. Patients with GAD tend to overreact to emotional stimuli and are impaired in emotional regulation. Using emotional regulation task, studies have found hypo-activation in prefrontal cortex (PFC) of GAD patients and concluded with inadequate top-down control.

Research progress in molecular biology related quantitative methods of MicroRNA.

Am J Transl Res

July 2020

Department of Clinical Laboratory, Women's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital Nanjing 210029, Jiangsu, China.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small RNAs of 18-25 nucleotides in length that are widely distributed in eukaryotes and are produced by DNA transcription. As regulators of post-transcriptional gene expression, it plays an important role in the physiological processes of cells. As some miRNAs in the body are abnormally expressed at different and earlier stages of diseases, this phenomenon suggests that accurate, sensitive and specifical detection of them can be helpful for early and differential diagnosis.

Although autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can currently be diagnosed at the age of 2 years, age at ASD diagnosis is still 40 months or even later. In order to early screening for ASD with more objective method, behavioral videos were used in a number of studies in recent years. The still-face paradigm (SFP) was adopted to measure the frequency and duration of non-social smiling, protest behavior, eye contact, social smiling, and active social engagement in high-risk ASD group (HR) and typical development group (TD) (HR: = 45; TD: = 43).

Background: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is caused by a variety of biological and environmental factors. Accumulating evidence suggests that childhood maltreatment is a risk environmental factor in the development of BPD, but research on the genetic pathology of BPD is still in its early stages, and very little is known about the oxytocin receptor (OXTR) gene. The purpose of this study is to further explore the interactive effects between OXTR gene polymorphisms and childhood maltreatment on BPD risk.

BACKGROUND Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are frequently aberrantly expressed in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and are considered to exert a pivotal role in the occurrence and development of NSCLC via targeting and negatively regulating microRNAs (miRNAs). We aimed to investigate the role of hsa_circ_0109320 in the proliferation, invasion and apoptosis of NSCLC, and explore its underlying molecular mechanism. MATERIAL AND METHODS Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis was performed to determine the circ_0109320 and miR-595 expression in tissues or cells.

Aims: SUMOylation is a posttranslational modification related to multiple human diseases. SUMOylation can be reversed by classes of proteases known as the sentrin/SUMO-specific proteases (SENPs). In the present study, we investigate the potential role of SENP1 in pericytes in the brain ischemia.

Background: Uniportal video-assisted thoracic surgery (UVATS) technique has been increasingly used for many thoracic diseases. Whether UVATS has equivalent or better perioperative outcomes for pulmonary sequestration (PS) patients remains controversial. Our study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of UVATS in anatomical lung resection for pulmonary sequestration.

Background: Fairness has received much attention in our society. At present, the findings regarding fair decision-making in high-functioning autism spectrum disorder (HF-ASD) are inconsistent. Previous studies have shown that the fair decision-making of typically developing children is influenced by theory of mind (ToM) and executive functioning (EF).

Longitudinal Study of Brain Asymmetries in Autism and Developmental Delays Aged 2-5 Years.

Neuroscience

April 2020

Nanjing Brain Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University, Child Mental Health Research Center, Nanjing 210029, China. Electronic address:

Some previous studies have demonstrated atypical brain lateralization in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, most of these reports have focused on language-related asymmetries in adults, and the developmental trajectory of hemispheric asymmetries in the important phase that occurs at 2-5 years of age remains unclear. Thus, we used structural magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in a longitudinal study of grey matter (GM) asymmetries across all cortical parcellation units (PUs) and white matter (WM) lateralization across the WM skeleton using voxel-based morphometry and tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) in 34 toddlers with ASD and a matched group of 26 toddlers with developmental delay (DD) at 2-3 years old and with follow-up at 4-5 years of age.

Background: Although there are lots of variations of pulmonary veins including dangerous type that could cause serious complications during surgery, limited information has been reported about these variations. We have experienced an extremely rare anomaly of the right superior pulmonary vein during right superior lobectomy. We used a technique called "non fissure" to manage the right superior pulmonary vein, and the results were satisfactory.

Background: Many studies have found that the hippocampus plays a very important role in major depressive disorder (MDD). The hippocampus can be divided into three subfields: the cornu ammonis (CA), dentate gyrus (DG) and subiculum. Each subfield of the hippocampus has a unique function and are differentially associated with the pathological mechanisms of MDD.

School of Psychology, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing 210097, China; Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Mental Health and Cognitive Science, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing 210097, China. Electronic address:

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is associated with abnormalities in emotional/cognitive processing and low reward sensitivity. The habenula has a pivotal role in these processes that may contribute to depression. However, there has been little research on the abnormal connectivity between the habenula and whole brain of first-onset MDD.

Background: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have social interaction deficits and difficulties in emotional regulation. The neural substrates for these socio-affective deficits are not yet clear, but one potential candidate is maldevelopment of the uncinate fasciculus (UF), a white matter tract thought to be involved in socio-affective processing. However, the developmental trajectory of the UF in young children with social interaction deficits has not been examined.

Article Synopsis
  • Panic disorder (PD) is linked to anticipatory anxiety and abnormal functioning of the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST), which is tied to fear responses.
  • A study used resting-state fMRI to compare the causal connectivity of the BNST in 19 PD patients and 18 healthy controls, focusing on how different brain regions interact.
  • Results showed PD patients had increased connectivity between the BNST and areas involved in emotional processing and decision-making, indicating a significant difference in brain network behavior compared to healthy individuals.
