Objective: Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is a common symptom in Parkinson's disease (PD), and patients with PD-RBD tend to have an increased risk of cognitive decline and have the tendency to be akinetic/rigidity predominant. At the same time, the mechanisms of RBD in patients with PD remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to detect the structural and functional differences in patients with PD-RBD and PD without RBD (PD-nRBD).

Children's Nutrition Research Center, Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Childhood Nutrition and Health, Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Child Development and Disorders, National Clinical Research Center for Child Health and Disorders, China International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of Child Development and Critical Disorders, Chongqing, China.

The etiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has not yet been fully identified, but it seems to be triggered by complex genetic and environmental risk factors. Moreover, the tremendous etiological and clinical differences among individuals with ASD has had a major negative impact on early diagnosis and individualized treatment. Earlier diagnosis of precise clinical subtypes of ASD could lead to individualized treatment and a better prognosis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined public mental health during the COVID-19 outbreak, revealing high rates of anxiety (37.2%) and depression (41.0%) among respondents.
  • Protective factors include higher psychological resilience, active coping styles, and factors like being female and optimistic, while younger age, less education, unmarried status, and passive coping styles are risk factors.
  • Limitations of the study include its cross-sectional design and reliance on self-reported data, indicating a need for further research in understanding mental health impacts amidst crises.

Background: Antipsychotic agents (APS) are widely used drugs to treat psychotic symptoms and can effectively reduce both positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. For decades, some studies suggested that there is a relationship between using APS and the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and pulmonary embolism (PE). However, results remain inconclusive.

The average nicotine half-life in body tissues is 2 h. Understanding the influence of pure nicotine abstinence on cognitive control may be helpful in eliminating nicotine dependence (ND) and preventing smoking relapse. This study was to investigate the effects of 2-h tobacco abstinence on cognitive control in patients with ND.

Nanjing Brain Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China; Functional Brain Imaging Institute of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Institute of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China; School of Psychology, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Resting-state functional connectivity (FC) is disrupted in patients with remitted major depressive disorder (rMDD), particularly within cognitive networks like the central executive network (CEN), default mode network (DMN), and salience network (SN).
  • In a study comparing 19 healthy controls to 19 rMDD patients, rMDD showed lower connectivity in key areas of the CEN and higher connectivity in parts of the DMN, indicating different functional patterns despite clinical remission.
  • Correlation analyses revealed that weaker connectivity in the right inferior parietal lobule (IPL) was associated with better cognitive function, while stronger connectivity in the left insula correlated with higher depression scores, suggesting ongoing cognitive impacts in r

Purpose: Malignant cerebral edema (MCE) in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is not uncommon and can reduce the benefit of EVT. We aimed to develop a nomogram model to predict the risk of MCE in ischemic stroke patients after EVT.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively collected patients treated with EVT caused by anterior circulation large vessel occlusion stroke at two comprehensive stroke centers.

Electrophysiological dynamics of visuocortical processing in hoarding disorder.

Psychophysiology

February 2021

Department of Psychology, Center for the Study of Emotion & Attention, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, USA.

Individuals with hoarding disorder (HD) typically perform worse than peers on neuropsychological tasks involving visual perception. Functional neuroimaging shows diffusely increased activity in the visual cortex, consistent with inefficient visual processing in HD. The temporal locus of these inefficiencies in HD is unknown.

Pulmonary actinomycosis (PA) is an uncommon pulmonary infectious disease that often is misdiagnosed. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) is a highly sensitive and culture-independent new molecular technology for precise infectious disease diagnosis. Here we report a PA case diagnosed by the combination of a radial endobronchial-ultrasonography guide sheath (R-EBUS-GS) and mNGS, along with a brief review of the literature.

Diabetes mellitus poses a major threat towards global heath due to a lack of effective treatment. Fluoxetine hydrochloride, a selective 5‑hydroxytryptamine reuptake inhibitor, is the most commonly used antidepressant in clinical therapy; however, the potential molecular mechanisms of fluoxetine in diabetes remain unknown. In the present study, reduced glucose, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels and lipid metabolism, as well as upregulated proliferator‑activated receptor γ, fatty acid synthase and lipoprotein lipase, and downregulated sterol regulatory element‑binding protein 1‑c were detected in rats with streptozotocin (STZ)‑induced diabetes following treatment with fluoxetine.
