The Green Revolution in Pakistan introduced intensive agricultural practices aimed at enhancing food security and economic growth. However, these measures have degraded the country's fertile agricultural land and exacerbated climate pollution due to farmers' overexploitation of resources in pursuit of higher yields. Addressing this issue requires identifying factors that can influence farmers' behavior toward adopting sustainable practices.

Lactate has been increasingly recognized for its role in diseases progression, necessitating a deeper understanding of its metabolic processes and regulatory mechanisms. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on lactate accumulation in bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMECs) and to elucidate the underlying regulatory mechanisms. Further optimization of LPS treatment points was achieved by assessing the content of key glycolytic enzymes-hexokinases (HK), pyruvate kinase (PK) and pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH)-as well as the expression levels of HK2, pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase4 (PDK4) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDHA).

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Food Processing and Quality Control, College of Food Science and Technology, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing 210000, PR China. Electronic address:

Transport proteins are essential for bacterial resistance to antibiotics and toxins, but their mechanisms remain poorly understood in Bacillus subtilis. In the present study, overexpression of yoeA enhanced resistance to various antibiotics, with its expression induced by these antibiotics, especially penicillin and plipastatin. The ΔyoeA strain exhibited significant growth inhibition at 100 μg/mL of plipastatin, while as high as 10,000 μg/mL of iturin/surfactin are required to achieve comparable inhibition, suggesting a higher sensitivity of ΔyoeA to plipastatin.

Production of virus-like particles of FMDV by 3C protease cleaving precursor polyprotein P1 in vitro.

Appl Microbiol Biotechnol

December 2024

State Key Laboratory for Animal Disease Control and Prevention, College of Veterinary Medicine, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Lanzhou, 730000, China.

Nonstructural protein 3C, a master protease of Picornaviridae, plays a critical role in viral replication by directly cleaving the viral precursor polyprotein to form the viral capsid protein and antagonizing the host antiviral response. Additionally, 3C protease, as a tool enzyme, is involved in regulating polyprotein expression. Here, the 3C mutant gene (3Cm), fused with a small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) tag at the N-terminal and featuring a mutation at position 127, was inserted into the cold-shock plasmid pCold of Escherichia coli for expression.

Electrocatalyst materials play a crucial role in determining the efficiency of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), directly influencing the overall effectiveness of energy conversion technologies. NiS/MoS heterostructures hold substantial promise as bifunctional catalysts, owing to their synergistic electronic characteristics and plentiful active sites. However, their catalytic efficacy is impeded by the relatively elevated chemisorption energy of hydrogen-containing intermediates, which constrains their functionality in different pH environments.
