Background: The use of targeted drugs and immunotherapy has significantly impacted the treatment of Colorectal Cancer. However, horizontal comparison among various regimens is extremely rare. Therefore, we evaluated the survival efficacy of multiple treatment regimens of targeted therapy and/or immunotherapy with or without chemotherapy in patients with Colorectal Cancer.

Background: As the methodological quality and evidence level of the existing systematic reviews (SRs) on music as an intervention for depression have not been thoroughly evaluated, a systematic evaluation and re-evaluation (SERE) was conducted.

Methods: Multiple databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, SinoMed, Wanfang, and the VIP database were searched for SRs and meta-analyses (MAs) on the effectiveness of music as an intervention for depression. The literature screening, evaluation of methodological quality, and assessment of evidence level were carried out by a team of researchers.

Aims: A bibliometric study was conducted to gain deeper insights into the current state of research on diabetes and the biological clock (BC).

Methods: The study involved a comprehensive search for literature related to diabetes and BC published between 1992 and 2023 in the Web of Science database.

Results: Ninety-five articles were published in 65 journals, with six of these journals not included in the Journal Citation Reports as of 2022.

Prognostic significance of the novel immunonutritional marker of cholesterol-to-lymphocyte ratio in patients with non-metastatic breast cancer.

BMC Cancer

July 2024

Department of Medical Oncology, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, 510060, China.

Background: Although there is a strong correlation between the novel cholesterol-to-lymphocyte ratio (CLR) and tumor survival, its prognostic significance in breast cancer (BC) is unknown. After analyzing the relationship between CLR and the overall survival (OS) of patients with BC, we created a predictive model.

Methods: Following retrospective enrollment, 1316 patients with BC were randomized into two cohorts: validation (n = 392) and training (n = 924).

Advancements in research on the association between the biological CLOCK and type 2 diabetes.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

June 2024

Nanhai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jinan University, Foshan, China.

Due to the Earth's rotation, the natural environment exhibits a light-dark diurnal cycle close to 24 hours. To adapt to this energy intake pattern, organisms have developed a 24-hour rhythmic diurnal cycle over long periods, known as the circadian rhythm, or biological clock. With the gradual advancement of research on the biological clock, it has become increasingly evident that disruptions in the circadian rhythm are closely associated with the occurrence of type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Article Synopsis
  • - Chronic Subdural Hematoma (CSDH) is becoming more common due to global aging, and its understanding has expanded beyond just bridging vein rupture to include factors like angiogenesis and inflammation.
  • - Improved insights into the mechanisms of CSDH have led to updated treatment strategies, providing clearer guidance for targeted methods based on the type of CSDH.
  • - Despite advancements, current treatments do not address all issues, particularly the challenge of recurrence. Future research aims to validate causes of recurrence and discover new treatment options to enhance CSDH management.

Epigenetic signature discriminates lymphatic metastasis in wild-type thyroid carcinoma: methylation role of .

Epigenomics

November 2023

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, 510060, China.

Conservative treatment approaches for thyroid carcinoma (TC) patients with wild-type B-type Raf kinase () pose risks of long-term recurrence. The association of DNA methylation with TC metastasis is unclear. Here we analyzed data from 179 wild-type TC patients in the The Cancer Genome Atlas database, identifying significant metastasis-associated CpGs.

Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The study assesses the cardiovascular safety of zoledronic acid, a treatment for primary osteoporosis, amidst concerns about its potential link to cardiovascular disease.
  • A systematic review identified 9 randomized controlled trials involving zoledronic acid and placebo, concluding that while there is a slight increase in cardiovascular events associated with the drug, major adverse events were not significantly affected.
  • The findings suggest a possible elevated risk of atrial fibrillation and arrhythmias in women treated with zoledronic acid, indicating the need for further investigation, especially regarding its effects on men.

The dysfunction of endothelial cells caused by hyperglycemia is observed as a decrease in neovascularization in diabetic wound healing. Studies have found that epidermal stem cells (EpiSCs) can promote the angiogenesis of full-thickness wounds. To further explain the therapeutic effect of EpiSCs, EpiSC-derived exosomes (EpiSC-EXOs) are considered the main substance contributing to stem cell effectivity.

The eradication of cancer stem cells (CSCs) with drug resistance confers the probability of local tumor control after chemotherapy or targeted therapy. As the main drug resistance marker, ABCG2 is also critical for colorectal cancer (CRC) evolution, in particular cancer stem-like traits expansion. Hitherto, the knowledge about the expression regulation of ABCG2, in particular its upstream transcriptional regulatory mechanisms, remains limited in cancer, including CRC.
