Regenerative biomaterials are commonly used for soft-tissue repair in both pre-clinical and clinical settings, but their effectiveness is often limited by poor regenerative outcomes and volume loss. Efficient vascularization is crucial for the long-term survival and function of these biomaterials in vivo. Despite numerous pro-vascularization strategies developed over the past decades, the fundamental mechanisms of vascularization in regenerative biomaterials remain largely unexplored.

Refractory cancer pain affects 10-20% of patients with advanced malignancies and is not adequately controlled by opioids. The intrathecal therapy is an effective interventional procedure for referral, but the implanted infusion pumps are costly and the refilling requires technical expertise. Hypophysectomy, in its three stages-surgical, chemical, and radiosurgical-has emerged as an alternative for managing this pain.

Background: There are few reports about the one-stage surgery of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) + mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER) around the world. TAVR + M-TEER surgery is usually performed under the simultaneous guidance of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and echocardiography. There is no report of TAVR surgery assisted only by echocardiography all over the world.

Electronic address:

Microplastics (MPs) are ubiquitous environmental pollutants that have garnered significant attention due to their small particle size, resistance to degradation and large specific surface area, which makes it easy to adsorb various pollutants, particularly heavy metals. Arsenic (As), a common metal poisons, poses significant risks due to its widespread industrial use. When MPs and As co-exist in the environment, they can exert combined toxic effects on organisms, affecting various systems, including the nervous system.

December 2024

Law Sau Fai Institute for Advancing Translational Medicine in Bone &Joint Diseases, School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong SAR 999077, China.

: Traditional paclitaxel therapy often results in significant side effects due to its non-specific targeting of cancer cells. Peptide aptamer-paclitaxel conjugates present a promising alternative by covalently attaching paclitaxel to a versatile peptide aptamer via a linker. Compared to antibody-paclitaxel conjugates, peptide aptamer-paclitaxel conjugates offer several advantages, including a smaller size, lower immunogenicity, improved tissue penetration, and easier engineering.

Background & Aims: Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) arises from a persistent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, complicating efforts for a functional cure. Kupffer cells (KCs), liver-resident macrophages, are pivotal in mediating immune tolerance to HBV. Although CD163 marks M2-polarized KCs, its precise role in HBV infection remains unclear and warrants further investigation.

January 2025

Department of Urology, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510515, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Bladder cancer (BCa), particularly muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), is associated with poor prognosis, partly because of immune evasion driven by M2 tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). Understanding the regulatory mechanisms of M2 macrophage polarization via PRKN-mediated mitophagy and histone lactylation (H3K18la) is crucial for improving treatment strategies.

Methods: A single-cell atlas from 46 human BCa samples was constructed to identify macrophage subpopulations.

Radiotherapy stands as a cornerstone in cancer therapy, with nuclear DNA acknowledged as the principal target molecule for radiation-induced cellular demise or injury. Nonetheless, an expanding body of contemporary research elucidates the significant contri-bution of sphingolipids to radiation-induced cell death, particularly in modulating radiation-induced apoptosis. Radiation can instigate apoptosis through multiple pathways of sphin-golipid metabolism, encompassing the activation of ceramide synthase, acid sphingomyelin-ase, neutral sphingomyelinase, sphingosine-1-phosphate lyase, and sphingosine-1-phosphate phosphatase, and the inhibition of sphingosine kinase-1.
