Morel-Lavallée lesion, also called closed degloving injury, is a rare clinical entity in routine pediatric surgical practice. We present a case of an 11-year-old girl presenting with a left hip lesion, treated with compression bandage, and the clinical outcome was favorable.

How to distinguish spinocerebellar ataxia 27B from late onset cerebellar ataxia: insights from a case-control study.

Background: Spinocerebellar ataxia 27B is the most common genetic late onset cerebellar ataxia (LOCA). However, it commonly overlaps with other genetic LOCA as with the cerebellar form of multiple system atrophy (MSA-C).

Objectives: Venous popliteal aneurysms are a rare but serious disease due to the risk of pulmonary embolism. Aneurysms larger than 20 mm in diameter or with an embolic episode should be treated. The classic surgical technique is the tangential resection of the aneurysm with venorraphy, which raises the risk of recurrence.

The Snails: A Simple Technique for Reduction of Frontal Bossing in Children With Scaphocephaly.

Objective: Scaphocephaly represents the most frequent single-suture craniosynostosis, with a male prevalence. In many cases, prominent frontal bossing (sphenocephaly) is the major aesthetic concern, typically in school-aged children. This aspect is also usually found in patients with late presentation (after 1 year of age).

Venous recanalisation in the setting of post-thrombotic syndrome: An expert consensus from the French Society of Vascular Medicine (SFMV) and the French Society of Cardiovascular Imaging and Interventional Radiology (SFICV).

Several aspects of the management of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) are still a matter of debate, or not yet addressed in international guidelines. The objective of this expert consensus from the French Society of Vascular Medicine (SFMV) and the French Society of Cardiovascular Imaging (SFICV) was to define the main elements of diagnosis and treatment of this syndrome, and to develop a proposal for its preoperative, procedural and follow-up management. In this consensus, the following issues were addressed: clinical and ultrasound diagnosis; pre-procedural workup; indications and contraindications to venous recanalisation; procedures; clinical and duplex ultrasound reports; follow-up; long-term treatment; management of great saphenous vein incompetency; anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy after venous stenting.

Elective open repair with the debranch, perfuse, reconstruct technique to treat suprarenal or type IV thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms.

Background: Open surgical repair of suprarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (SRAAA) and type IV thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) remains a surgical challenge because of the inducted intraoperative visceral and renal ischemia. We report a novel three-step technique named debranch, perfuse, reconstruct (DPR), using debranching and passive arterial shunt to decrease these ischemic complications. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the 30-day and 1-year mortality rates associated with these DPR technique.

Environmental impact of single-use versus reusable gastroscopes.

Introduction: The environmental impact of endoscopy is a topic of growing interest. This study aimed to compare the carbon footprint of performing an esogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with a reusable (RU) or with a single-use (SU) disposable gastroscope.

Methods: SU (Ambu aScope Gastro) and RU gastroscopes (Olympus, H190) were evaluated using life cycle assessment methodology (ISO 14040) including the manufacture, distribution, usage, reprocessing and disposal of the endoscope.

Impact of Annual Case Volume on Colorectal Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection Outcomes in a Large Prospective Cohort Study.

Introduction: The adoption of colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is still limited in the West. A recent randomized trial showed that ESD is more effective and only slightly riskier than piecemeal endoscopic mucosal resection; reproducibility outside expert centers was questioned. We evaluated the results according to the annual case volume in a multicentric prospective cohort.

Risk Factors for Artificial Urinary Sphincter Explantation and Erosion in Male Nonneurological Patients.

Purpose: This study was performed to assess the risk factors for artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) explantation in a large multicenter cohort.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records for all 1,233 implantations of the AMS-800 AUS device in male nonneurological patients from 2005 to 2020 across 13 French centers. Patients with neurological conditions were excluded from the study.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by brittle bones. Though genetic mutations in COL1A1 and COL1A2 account for approximately 85-90% of OI cases, there are now more than twenty genes described, responsible for rare forms of OI. Treatment is based on the use of bisphosphonates and though it is well established that they increase lumbar spine (LS) bone mineral density (BMD), the clinical impact on fracture reduction is still debated.

Profile of adverse drug reactions reported via the Continuum+ platform: Results from three-year regional follow-up.

In 2017, the Continuum+ platform was launched to provide a monitoring solution to home-based cancer care patients: AKO@dom monitoring. This platform also offers the follow-up of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) via direct notification to regional centers of pharmacovigilance (RCPVs). According to previous studies, the AKO@dom monitoring has successfully maintained treatment at the maximum effective dosage, managing ADRs and patient satisfaction.

Clinicopathological factors associated with sentinel lymph node detection in non-small-cell lung cancer.

Background: Mapping of the pulmonary lymphatic system by near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence imaging might not always identify the first lymph node relay. The aim of this study was to determine the clinicopathologic factors allowing the identification of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) by NIR fluorescence imaging in thoracic surgery for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 92 patients treated for suspected or confirmed cN0 lung cancer with curative intent who underwent an intraoperative injection of indocyanine green (ICG) either by direct peritumoral injection or by endobronchial injection using electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy (ENB).

Adverse drug reaction profile of third-generation smallpox vaccines used in France during the 2022 monkeypox epidemic.

Due to the start of the monkeypox epidemic in 2022, we retrospectively analyzed the adverse drug reactions (ADRs) reported in France after monkeypox vaccinations with the third-generation smallpox vaccine. Ninety-eight cases, representing 172 ADRs, were reported. ADRs were mostly expected reactogenicity reactions occurring within days after the first dose of vaccine and having a quick favorable outcome.

Malignant distal biliary obstructions are becoming increasingly common, especially in patients with cancers of the pancreatic head, despite progress in medical oncology research. ERCP is the current gold standard for management of such strictures, but the emergence of EC-LAMS has rendered EUS-CDS both safe and efficient. It is a "game changer"; originally intended for ERCP failure, two randomised clinical trials recently proposed EUS-CDS as a first-intent procedure in palliative settings.

Background: Whether spinocerebellar ataxia 27B (SCA27B) may present as a cerebellar multiple system atrophy (MSA-C) mimic remains undetermined.

Objectives: To assess the prevalence of FGF14 (GAA) expansions in patients with MSA-C, to compare SCA27B and MSA-C clinical presentation and natural history.

Methods: FGF14 expansion screening combined with longitudinal deep-phenotyping in a prospective cohort of 195 patients with sporadic late-onset cerebellar ataxia.

Prolonged cord separation in a newborn: a rare case of an unusual epithelialised umbilical cord.

A female full-term neonate, accompanied by her parents, was referred to the paediatric surgery department on the day of after birth. She presented with a 9 cm length pathological umbilical cord, of which the first 7 cm was red and wet, with ulceration, necrosis and healing areas. The patient never had a fever.

Seat belt syndrome describes a combination of injuries a person restrained by a seat belt may have after a high-velocity motor vehicle crash. A seat belt-shaped bruise may be present across the torso. A Chance fracture is a horizontal vertebral fracture, resulting from spinal hyperflexion, and in disruption of the three columns of the vertebral bodies.
