Disruptions in energy homeostasis can lead to diseases like obesity and diabetes, affecting millions of people each year. Tanycytes, the adult stem cells in the hypothalamus, play crucial roles in assisting hypothalamic neurons in maintaining energy balance. Although tanycytes have been extensively studied in rodents, our understanding of human tanycytes remains limited.

Article Synopsis
  • The meta-analysis aimed to investigate the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM).
  • Five studies involving 286 IIM patients and 480 healthy controls showed that IIM patients had significantly lower vitamin D levels compared to controls and that low vitamin D was linked to higher creatine kinase levels in IIM patients.
  • The findings suggest that vitamin D deficiency may increase the risk of IIM and highlight the need for further research on the potential benefits of vitamin D supplementation for IIM patients.
