Introduction: Depression is a prevalent and significant psychological consequence of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death, exacerbates the neurological damage associated with TBI. This study investigates whether nicorandil, a potassium channel opener with nitrate-like properties known for its antioxidative and neuroprotective effects, can mitigate depression-like behaviors following TBI by modulating ferroptosis.

Article Synopsis
  • The Qi Li Qiang Xin (QLQX) capsule shows promise in treating chronic heart failure, with the study aiming to uncover its mechanisms through metabolomics and lipidomics analysis.
  • A rat model of heart failure was used to assess the effects of QLQX compared to a control group (SHAM), a myocardial infarction (MI) group, and a valsartan group, with various metrics for cardiac function and morphology being measured.
  • Results indicated that QLQX improved heart function and reduced heart failure markers, while metabolomics analysis identified 17 significant plasma metabolites that were beneficially affected by QLQX treatment, indicating its role in biochemical pathways associated with heart health.

Variants in the SYNGAP1 gene leading to decreased SynGAP protein expression are critical for the pathogenesis of mental retardation type 5 (MRD5). This study aims to explore the relationship between SYNGAP1 genotype and clinical phenotype through an expanded sample size, thereby enhancing the understanding of the specific mechanisms underlying MRD5. Data from previously published cases of patients with SYNGAP1 mutations were collected, and the relationship between genotype and clinical phenotype was analyzed.

Activation of GPR55 alleviates neuropathic pain and chronic inflammation.

Biotechnol Appl Biochem

September 2024

Department of Anesthesiology, Nanchang First Hospital, Nanchang, Jiangxi, China.

Neuropathic pain (NP) significantly impacts the quality of life due to its prolonged duration and lack of effective treatment. Recent findings suggest that targeting neuroinflammation is a promising approach for treating NP. G protein-coupled receptor 55 (GPR55), a member of the GPCR family, plays an important role in neuroinflammatory regulation.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze myocardial work in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) using a noninvasive pressure strain loop (PSL) technique to provide a basis for the quantitative assessment of left ventricular (LV) systolic function.

Methods: LV myocardial work of 107 AF patients (56 with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and 51 with persistent atrial fibrillation) and 55 healthy individuals were assessed by the noninvasive PSL and then compared.

Results: Global longitudinal strain (GLS) in absolute values, global work index (GWI), global constructive work (GCW), and global work efficiency (GWE) were significantly lower in the AF group than control group, whereas peak strain dispersion (PSD) and global wasted work (GWW) were significantly higher (P < .

Background And Purpose: Cognitive impairment is a prevalent adverse consequence of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The neuroprotective effects of nicorandil (N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-nicotinamide nitrate) has been previously documented, yet its protective effects against cognitive dysfunction post-TBI remain unclear. Hence, the present study was aimed to evaluate whether nicorandil attenuates cognitive dysfunction in TBI rats and the underlying mechanism behind this process.

Infliximab and its -drug antibody (ADA) serum concentrations exhibit a strong correlation with clinical response and loss of response. The use of therapeutic drug monitoring to measure the concentration of infliximab and ADA can facilitate clinical decision-making, helping patients attain optimal therapeutic effects. However, there are still limitations to the existing infliximab and its ADA detection methods.

Two-dimensional elastic distribution imaging of the sclera using acoustic radiation force optical coherence elastography.

J Biophotonics

February 2024

Key Laboratory of Opto-Electronic Information Science and Technology of Jiangxi Province and Jiangxi Engineering Laboratory for Optoelectronics Testing Technology, Nanchang Hangkong University, Nanchang, PR China.

The scleral elasticity is closely related with many ocular diseases, but the relevant research is still insufficient. Here, we utilized optical coherence elastography to carefully study biomechanical properties of the sclera at different positions and under different intraocular pressures. Meanwhile, elastic wave velocity and Young's modulus of each position were obtained using a phase velocity algorithm.

Mounting evidence has proposed the importance of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and tripartite motif 31 (TRIM31) in certain malignancies. Our research aimed to clarify the correlation between aberrant TRIM31 expression and the Wnt/β-catenin pathway during gastric cancer (GC) oncogenesis and development. TRIM31 was drastically elevated in GC tissues and was closely associated with aggressive clinical outcomes and poor prognosis.
