Background: The dermal papilla cells are a specialized population of mesenchymal cells located at the base of the hair follicle (HF), which possess the capacity to regulate HF morphogenesis and regeneration. However, lack of cell-type specific surface markers restricts the isolation of DP cells and application for tissue engineering purposes.

Methods: We describe a novel force-triggered density gradient sedimentation (FDGS) method to efficiently obtain purified follicular DP-spheres cells from neonatal mouse back skin, utilizing only centrifugation and optimized density gradients.

Introduction: Laparoscopic salpingo-oophorectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy place the ureter at risk. Although traditional anatomic studies indicate that ureters generally cross over the common iliac artery in the pelvic inlet, the view is often different during surgery. Hence, digital three-dimensional models have been utilized to solve this conundrum.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers used differential proteomic technology to analyze urine samples from pregnant women with gestational hypertension, mild and severe preeclampsia, and normal pregnancies, identifying 30 unique proteins.
  • They found that levels of certain proteins, like L‑PGDS and perlecan, were elevated in gestational hypertension but decreased in preeclampsia, while other proteins like serum albumin were the opposite.
  • The study highlights the potential of urine proteomics to identify biomarkers for different hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, with L‑PGDS and perlecan possibly indicating renal function and injury.

A digital anatomical study of the corona mortis in females.

Minim Invasive Ther Allied Technol

April 2017

c Department of Anatomy , Southern Medical University, Guangzhou , China.

It was a different study from traditional anatomy to construct three-dimensional (3D) model of the corona mortis (CMOR) through contrasted enhanced computed tomography (CT) scanning. This will provide an aid for the understanding of the fine anatomy of CMOR, as well as surgical produces. A medical image processing system was used to process computed tomography scanning data collected from 330 cases of woman patients.

Evaluation Indicators of Aesthetic Effects on Hair Transplantation.

Ann Plast Surg

February 2016

From the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, Nan Fang Hospital of Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Hair transplantation involves the transplantation of hair, beard, eyebrows, eyelashes, and pubic hair. Based on our experience, the aesthetic result of hair transplantation mainly relies on 4 indicators, including selection of the donor site, direction and angle of grafted hairs, density, and survival rate of implanted hair follicles. We believe that good results can be achieved as long as attention is paid to the above 4 points.

May 2015

Key Laboratory of Regenerative Biology, South China Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, South China Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China

Successful expansion of hematopoietic stem cells would benefit the use of hematopoietic stem cell transplants in the clinic. Several angiopoietin-like proteins, including angiopoietin-like 7, can support the activity of hematopoietic stem cells. However, effects of ANGPTL7 on human hematopoietic stem cells and the downstream signaling cascade activated by ANGPTL7 are poorly understood.
