The bioactivity of interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in cancer cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) is not well understood in the current immunotherapy era. We found that IFN-γ has an immunosuppressive effect on colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. The tumor volume in immunocompetent mice was significantly increased after subcutaneous implantation of murine CRC cells followed by IFN-γ stimulation, and RNA sequencing showed high expression of B7 homologous protein 4 (B7H4) in these tumors.

Background: Visual vertigo (VV) is a disease characterized by various visual signal-induced discomforts, including dizziness, unsteady balance, activity avoiding, and so forth. Distinguishing it from other kinds of dizziness is important because it needs the combination of visual training and vestibular rehabilitation together. However, there is no appropriate tool to diagnose VV in China, thus we would like to introduce an effective tool to China.

Background: The dermal papilla cells are a specialized population of mesenchymal cells located at the base of the hair follicle (HF), which possess the capacity to regulate HF morphogenesis and regeneration. However, lack of cell-type specific surface markers restricts the isolation of DP cells and application for tissue engineering purposes.

Methods: We describe a novel force-triggered density gradient sedimentation (FDGS) method to efficiently obtain purified follicular DP-spheres cells from neonatal mouse back skin, utilizing only centrifugation and optimized density gradients.

Department Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Gastroenterology, Department of Gastroenterology, Institute of Gastroenterology of Guangdong Province, Nan Fang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a harmful cancer with high morbidity and poor prognosis. There is growing evidence that RNA methylation is closely related to the occurrence of cancer and its malignant biological behavior. N6-methyladenosine (mA) methylation is the most common RNA modification in eukaryotes, and its multiple regulatory mechanisms in CRC have been elucidated from multiple perspectives.

Article Synopsis
  • GPR120 has been linked to anti-inflammatory processes and this study explores its role in regulating neutrophil functions against gut bacteria.
  • Wild-type (WT) mice and GPR120-deficient mice were used to analyze microbiota differences, inflammation severity, and neutrophil capabilities during infections and colitis models.
  • The study found that GPR120 promotes neutrophils to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) and extracellular traps (NETs), enhancing their ability to combat bacteria, suggesting that GPR120 is crucial for protecting against bacterial infections in the gut.

Preoperative computed tomography enterography-based radiomics signature: A potential predictor of postoperative anastomotic recurrence in patients with Crohn's disease.

Eur J Radiol

May 2023

Department of Radiology, The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University, 58 Zhongshan II Road, Guangzhou 510080, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • More than half of patients with Crohn's disease need surgery, but many face a risk of surgical recurrence called postoperative anastomotic recurrence (PAR).
  • This study aimed to create and validate a radiomics signature based on preoperative computed tomography enterography (CTE) to predict early PAR in patients with Crohn's disease.
  • The findings showed that both intestinal and mesenteric radiomic signatures were significant independent risk factors for PAR, and a new radiomics-based nomogram was more effective in predicting outcomes compared to traditional clinical models.
