The Effect of Reusable Flexible Ureteroscope Aging on the Efficacy and Safety of Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery.

Reusable flexible ureteroscopes may lose their mechanical functionality through overuse, which is known as "aging of the flexible ureteroscope." Although mechanical deterioration has been shown in several studies, the data about the effect of this situation on the efficacy and safety of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) are missing. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of the aging of flexible ureteroscopes on the efficacy and safety of RIRS.

Objective: To evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of ultrasonography (USG) and kidney ureter bladder radiography (KUB) for the determination of stone-free status of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) according to different stone-free status definitions.

Materials And Methods: The patients who underwent RIRS between September 2021 and September 2022 were prospectively included in the study. All patients underwent a KUB radiography, urinary system USG and noncontrast abdominal tomography at the postoperative first month of the surgery.

Accidental ingestion of concentrated white vinegar in Hatay children in Turkey.

White vinegar which contains high concentrations (~85 %) of acetic acid is a staple ingredient used in food preparation in many Mediterranean cuisines but in small amounts. Being corrosive, it can cause ulcerative injury to the oropharynx and oesophagus and upset the stomach with resulting nausea and vomiting. This study presents 11 cases of paediatric patients (five boys and six girls, aged between 11 and 89 months) with oesophageal strictures who drank white vinegar by accident.

Does neo-adjuvant chemotherapy improve the negative effect of lymphovascular invasion in survival after radical cystectomy?

Purpose: There is a lack of studies in the literature to evaluate the impact of the specific benefit of the use of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) on the negative effect of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) on prognosis. We aimed to evaluate the survival differences of patients according to the presence of LVI with and without administration of NAC before radical cystectomy (RC).

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated data of the patients who underwent RC with pelvic lymphadenectomy and urinary diversion for bladder cancer recorded in the bladder cancer database of the Turkish Uro-oncology Association between 2007 and 2021.

Diagnostic delay in psoriatic arthritis: insights from a nationwide multicenter study.

This study aimed to investigate the duration of diagnostic delay in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and identify potential contributing factors using a comprehensive, population-based approach. Data were obtained from the Turkish League Against Rheumatism (TLAR)-Network, involving patients who met the CASPAR criteria. Diagnostic delay was defined as time interval from symptom onset to PsA diagnosis, categorized as ≤ 2 years and > 2 years.

Effects of nicorandil on QT prolongation and myocardial damage caused by citalopram in rats.

Citalopram is a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant; it exhibits the greatest cardiotoxic effect among SSRIs. Citalopram can cause drug-induced long QT syndrome (LQTS) and ventricular arrhythmias. We investigated the protective effect of nicorandil, a selective mitochondrial K (mito-K) channel opener, on LQTS and myocardial damage caused by citalopram in male rats.

The Long-Term Impact of Ionizing Radiation on DNA Damage in Patients Undergoing Multiple Cardiac Catheterizations.

Ionizing radiation (IR) exposures have increased exponentially in recent years due to the rise in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. A number of small-scale studies investigated the long-term effect of IR on health workers or immediate effects of IR on patients undergoing catheterization procedures; however, the long-term impact of multiple cardiac catheterizations on DNA damage on a patient population is not known. In this study, the effects of IR on DNA damage, based on micronuclei (MN) frequency and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) as markers in peripheral lymphocytes, were evaluated in patients who previously underwent multiple cardiac catheterization procedures.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between disease duration and psychological burden in PsA and to identify the risk factors associated with psychological distress. Patients with PsA who met CASPAR classification criteria enrolled by Turkish League Against Rheumatism (TLAR)-Network. Patients were categorized into three groups based on disease duration: early stage (< 5 years), middle stage (≥ 5, < 10 years), and late stage (≥ 10 years).

Objective: To determine the shrinkage effect of formalin on renal cell carcinoma.

Methods: The retrospective study was conducted from October to November 2020 at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, Turkey, and comprised all radical and partial nephrectomy cases performed by a single surgeon in a single clinic between January 2014 and August 2020. Pre-operative images and post-operative pathology were reviewed by the same clinician.

Stathmin 1 and p53 Expression in Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Precursor Lesions.

Studies on the relationship between stathmin 1 (STMN1) and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) are limited. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between clinicopathological factors and STMN1 and p53 expressions in cSCC and compare them with those in the precursor lesions of cSCC and normal tissue. A total of 195 patients, followed between January 2014 and December 2021, with diagnoses of primary cSCC (n = 129), in situ cSCC (n = 20), or actinic keratosis (n = 46), as well as 29 histopathologically normal tissue samples, were included in the study.

Real-life experience of patients with sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma: a multicenter retrospective study.

Introduction: Tubularized incised plate urethroplasty (TIPU) surgery is among the most successful techniques for distal hypospadias. Our objective was the investigation of complication rates and their predictors.

Methods: Between 2010 and 2021, 150 patients with distal hypospadias were operated on consecutively by a single surgeon using the TIPU technique.
