Atezolizumab plus bevacizumab treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma progressing after molecular targeted therapy: A multicenter prospective observational study.

To evaluate the efficacy of atezolizumab plus bevacizumab treatment in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) previously treated with molecular targeted agents (MTAs). Thirty-one patients treated with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab for unresectable HCC and previously treated with MTAs were enrolled in this study. The treatment lines ranged from second to sixth lines.

Is a small-caliber or large-caliber endoscope more suitable for colonic self-expandable metallic stent placement? A randomized controlled study.

Objectives: The colonic self-expandable metallic stent (C-SEMS) with a 9-French (Fr) delivery system allows for a small-caliber endoscope (SCE) to be used to treat malignant colonic obstruction. Despite the lack of evidence, the SCE has become popular because it is considered easier to insert than the large-caliber endoscope (LCE). We aimed to determine whether the SCE is more suitable than the LCE for C-SEMS placement.

Use of venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for perioperative management of acute respiratory distress syndrome caused by fat embolism syndrome: A case report and literature review.

Introduction: Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is a known complication of long bone fracture and can affect multiple organs. The organ most commonly affected with FES is the lung. Severe cases of FES from long bone fracture can cause acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Stump classification was correlated with retear in the suture-bridge and double-row repair techniques for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

Purpose: The Stump classification is significantly correlated with a retear after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. However, no study has evaluated whether or not the stump classification is correlated with retear in the suture-bridge or double-row repair techniques. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between a retear and the stump classification in the suture-bridge and double-row repair techniques.

Analysis of Dietary Intake during Consecutive-Day Chemotherapy for Bone and Soft-Tissue Sarcomas.

Background: Bone and soft tissue sarcomas are commonly treated with consecutive-day chemotherapy regimens consisting of multiple anticancer agents. Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is a serious adverse effect of these regimens and may result in decreased energy intake during chemotherapy. Decreased energy intake may lead to undernutrition and may cause adverse effects on patient quality of life and survival.

Fibronectin glomerulopathy complicated with persistent cloaca and congenital esophageal atresia: a case report and literature review.

Background: Fibronectin glomerulopathy is a rare, inherited, autosomal dominant, glomerular disease characterized by proteinuria, microscopic hematuria, hypertension, massive glomerular deposits of fibronectin, and slow progression to end-stage renal failure. Because the incident of fibronectin glomerulopathy is extremely low, the pathophysiology, genetic abnormalities, epidemiology, and mechanisms remain to be elucidated.

Case Presentation: We report a 21-year-old woman with fibronectin glomerulopathy, who had been diagnosed with persistent cloaca and congenital esophageal atresia at birth.

Short- and long-term outcomes of endoscopic resection of rectal neuroendocrine tumours: analyses according to the WHO 2010 classification.

Objective: Although the World Health Organisation (WHO) defined a novel classification of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) in 2010, indications for endoscopic resection of rectal NETs in the guidelines were based on evidence accumulated for carcinoid tumours defined by a previous classification. This study was designed to clarify indications for endoscopic resection of rectal NETs corresponding to the new WHO classifications.

Material And Methods: One hundred-seventy rectal NETs resected endoscopically from April 2001 to March 2012 were histologically re-classified according to the WHO 2010 criteria.

Phase II study of S-1 plus leucovorin in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

Background: S-1, a novel oral fluoropyrimidine, is well tolerated in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The response rate of S-1 for colorectal cancer is high, ranging from 35% to 40%. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of S-1 combined with oral leucovorin (LV) to enhance antitumor activity in chemotherapy-naive patients with mCRC.

Adenomatoid tumour of the liver.

An unusual primary adenomatoid tumour arising in the normal liver is described. Hepatectomy was performed, and the patient is alive and free of disease 1 year postsurgery. Grossly, the tumour showed a haemorrhagic cut surface with numerous microcystic structures.

[A case of recurrent gallbladder cancer responding to low-dose 5-FU and CDDP therapy].

We treated a patient with a postoperative local recurrence of gallbladder cancer who showed a long-term response to low-dose 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and cisplatin (CDDP) therapy. A 60-year-old woman was diagnosed with advanced gallbladder cancer, for which she underwent an extended cholecystectomy, bile duct resection and a partial resection of the duodenum in March 2000. The pathological diagnosis was well differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma of si, ly1, v1, hinf2, binf2, n0.

[Examination of the power of families taking care of patients at home at peace].

Objective: We examined the power of families who take care of a patient at home. We wanted to know how much caring power patients needed to stay at home at peace.

Patients And Methods: The subjects were 150 patients who visit the hospital for day care or are taken care of at home under our management.

Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue type lymphoma of the gallbladder associated with acute myeloid leukemia.

We describe a patient with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) type lymphoma of the gallbladder who developed concurrent acute myeloid leukemia (M2). She was admitted because of progressive jaundice and underwent cholecystectomy. Histologic examination of the gallbladder showed diffuse proliferation of atypical lymphoid cells and a formed lymphoepithelial lesion.

Perforated diverticulum of the transverse colon.

We report a case of perforated diverticulitis of the transverse colon. The preoperative diagnosis of perforated appendicitis was made on the basis of findings of both ultrasonography and CT. At surgery, an inflammatory mass resembling carcinoma was found in the transverse colon, and segmental resection was then performed.

A 48-year-old female was admitted to our hospital because of pancytopenia and pneumonia in February, 1993. The increase of abnormal promyelocytes with t (15; 17) and PML-RAR mRNA was detected in bone marrow aspirate and a diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia was made. She obtained complete remission after the administration of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and following chemotherapy.

Intrapericardial mitomycin C for the management of malignant pericardial effusion secondary to gastric cancer: case report and review.

In a 57-year-old man with recurrent gastric cancer, cardiac tamponade due to malignant pericardial effusion developed. Echocardiographically guided pericardiocentesis followed by an intrapericardial instillation of mitomycin C provided a complete control of the pericardial effusion, and no adverse effects were observed with this procedure. An intrapericardial instillation with effective anticancer agents is therefore considered to be useful for the management of malignant pericardial effusion.

Cardiac tamponade in chronic myelomonocytic leukemia: a case report.

Serous effusion is a rare complication of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia. We present a patient with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia who developed a massive pericardial effusion with cardiac tamponade as early manifestations. Numerous clumps of monocytes were observed in the effusion.

Cisplatin plus continuous infusion of 5-fluorouracil for 5 days effective for patients with advanced gastric cancer.

Seventeen consecutively treated patients with advanced gastric cancer were prescribed every 3 weeks intravenous cisplatin (20 mg/m2/day) and a continuous infusion of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) (750 mg/m2/day) for 5 days. Twelve (71%) patients had been treated previously with other anticancer drugs. Seven (42%) patients showed a partial response and these responses persisted for over 4.

[A case report of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) induced by antineoplastic agents].

An autopsy case of hemolytic uremic syndrome after treatment with antineoplastic agents for advanced gastric carcinoma is reported. A 70 year-old woman underwent partial gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma on April 16, 1987 (P0H0S2N4, Stage IV). She was treated with Mitomycin C (MMC), UFT, OK-432 and PSK as post operative chemotherapy.

Postoperative adjuvant immunochemotherapy with mitomycin C, tegafur, PSK and/or OK-432 for gastric cancer, with special reference to the change in stimulation index after gastrectomy.

In order to evaluate the efficacy of combined immunochemotherapy with mitomycin-C, tegafur, PSK and/or OK-432 as an adjunct for curatively resected gastric cancer, a prospective randomized controlled study using the envelope method was performed, in which 266 institutions from around Japan participated. The 3 year survival rates for all cases, and for ps(+).n(+) cases, were insignificantly higher in the immunochemotherapy groups receiving PSK and/or OK-432 than in the control group.
