Background: Carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (CR-GNB) are a critical public health threat globally; however, there are inadequate surveillance data, especially in intensive care units (ICU), to inform infection prevention and control in many resource-constrained settings. Here, we assessed the prevalence of CR-GNB infections and risk factors for acquisition in a Kenyan ICU.
Methods: A hospital-based cross-sectional study design was adopted, recruiting 162 patients clinically presenting with bacterial infection after 48 h of ICU admission, from January to October 2022 at the Nairobi West Hospital, Kenya.

The omphalocele-exstrophy-imperforate anus-spinal defects (OEIS) complex is a rare birth disorder involving a combination of gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, renal, neural, and genitourinary system defects. We present a case report of a neonate with OEIS born by vertex spontaneous delivery to non-consanguineous parents. The major presenting defect was exstrophy of the cecum lying between two exstrophied halves of the bladder, an imperforate anus and spina bifida myelomeningocele.

Background: Patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU) are at risk of Gram-negative bacteria (GNB) infections, especially those caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) isolates, increasing morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. However, epidemiological surveillance data on MDR bacteria to inform infection prevention and control (IPCs) interventions is limited in our study setting. Here we assessed the prevalence and factors associated with GNB infections in ICU- patients admitted in our study setting.

Introduction: Deaths due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have surpassed those due to communicable diseases globally and are projected to do so in Africa by 2030. Despite demonstrated effectiveness in high-income country (HIC) settings, the ED is a primary source of NCD care that has been under-prioritized in Africa. In this study, we assess the burden of leading NCDs and NCD risk factors in Kenyan Casualty Department patients to inform interventions targeting patients with NCDs in emergency care settings.

Introduction: Conventional MR imaging provides highly detailed anatomic information with unrivalled soft tissue contrast making it the mainstay in the diagnosis of suspected brain lesions. Despite this, MRI alone at times cannot answer the diagnostic questions in quite a few patients. Proton MR Spectroscopy (H-MRS) provides information on the metabolic composition within an area under interrogation.
