Background: Subtrochanteric proximal femoral fractures are generally treated with cephalomedullary nail fixation. We aimed to compare outcomes of subtrochanteric fracture fixation using a single lag screw (Gamma3 nail, GN) or dual lag screw (INTERTAN nail, IN) device.

Methods: The primary outcome measure was mechanical failure, defined as lag screw cut-out or back-out, nail breakage, or peri-implant fracture.

Missed Distal Femoral Cortical Perforation During Intramedullary Nailing of an Intertrochanteric Femur Fracture: The Role of Early Advanced Imaging.

Distal femoral anterior cortical perforation is a rare complication of intramedullary nailing for proximal femur fractures. Awareness and intraoperative preventive measures are key to minimizing the risk of this complication. We report a case of a patient who experienced an anterior cortical breach of the distal femur during routine antegrade nailing for an intertrochanteric fracture, which was attributed to a sclerotic lesion in the distal femur.

[Comparative study of two fixation methods in single segment interbody fusion and fixation with unilateral dual channel spinal endoscopic technique].

Objective: To explore clinical efficacy of unilateral and bilateral nail-rod system fixation in single-level intervertebral fusion fixation of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and instability with unilateral dual-channel spinal endoscopy.

Methods: The clinical data of 63 patients with LDH complicated with instability treated by unilateral double-channel spinal endoscopy from March 2021 to June 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. According to intraoperative fixation methods, the patients were divided into two groups, included unilateral nail rod system fixation group(unilateral group) and bilateral nail rod system fixation group(bilateral group).

Introduction: Preoperative anemia in orthopedic surgery is linked to adverse outcomes such as longer hospital stays, higher rates of blood transfusion, and increased risk of death. Effectively addressing and managing this condition is essential for improving patient outcomes and shortening the length of hospital stays. In Ethiopia and other low-income countries, studies on preoperative anemia and its impact on the length of hospital stay following orthopedic surgery are limited.

Traumatic obturator dislocation of the hip associated with ipsilateral subtrochanteric femur fracture in a young adult: a case report.

Introduction: Traumatic obturator-type anterior dislocation of the hip with an ipsilateral subtrochanteric fracture is rarely encountered in clinical practice. This case presentation described a trauma patient with such a rare scenario.

Case Report: This paper reports a case of a 20-year-old Amhara ethnic male patient who had a traumatic anterior dislocation of the hip associated with an ipsilateral subtrochanteric femur fracture after a truck rolled over.

Nail-plate combination constructs versus single traditional constructs for distal femur fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis of comparative studies.

Objectives: Distal femur fractures (DFF) are frequently treated surgically with single traditional constructs (STC), such as with a lateral plate or intramedullary nail, although nail-plate combination constructs (NPCC) are gaining attention. The purpose of this study is to compare outcomes between NPCC and STC for surgical fixation of DFF to guide surgeon decision-making.

Methods: Data Sources: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis using PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Science Direct, and SPORTDiscus from database inception until January 10th, 2024.

Total-body positron emission tomography: a tool for systemic, quantitative evaluation of the inflammatory burden of psoriatic arthritis.

Objectives: To test the hypothesis that recently-developed total body-positron emission tomography (TB-PET) imaging with integrated computed tomography (CT) will enable low-dose, quantitative, domain-specific evaluation of the total inflammatory burden of psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and associate with established outcome measures of the clinical domains of PsA.

Methods: Seventy-one adult participants (40 with PsA, 16 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and 15 with osteoarthritis (OA)) underwent 20-min TB-PET/CT scans using [18F]FDG, a glucose analogue radiotracer. [18F]FDG uptake was assessed qualitatively and quantitatively.

Introduction: Intramedullary femoral nails (IMFNs) need to be removed for subsequent joint replacement, refracture, nonunion, or infection. The tools used to extract newer IMFNs may not be suited for removal of older implants, especially if broken. Background: Post-radiation fractures (PRF) are a recognised complication of radiation treatment for soft tissue sarcomas. They have a low incidence and typically occur up to 5 years following treatment, more commonly affecting the pelvis, ribs and femur. Due to radiation-induced changes in bone, PRFs typically require more complicated intervention compared to post-trauma fractures, however, limited literature exists, particularly in regards to mid-shaft femoral PRFs.

A 33-year-old woman complained of recurrent oral erosion and finger (toe) nails damage for over 30 years. Candida albicans were cultured from the oral mucosa and nails.
