Background: Subtrochanteric proximal femoral fractures are generally treated with cephalomedullary nail fixation. We aimed to compare outcomes of subtrochanteric fracture fixation using a single lag screw (Gamma3 nail, GN) or dual lag screw (INTERTAN nail, IN) device.
Methods: The primary outcome measure was mechanical failure, defined as lag screw cut-out or back-out, nail breakage, or peri-implant fracture.

Bone healing is a complex, dynamic process involving a series of well-coordinated stages, influenced by both mechanical and biological factors. The skeletal system, composed of inorganic (36%), organic (36%), and water (28%) components by volume, plays a crucial role in maintaining structural integrity and mineral homeostasis. Bone is classified into two main types based on microstructure: lamellar and woven bone, with lamellar bone being stronger and more durable.

Distal femoral anterior cortical perforation is a rare complication of intramedullary nailing for proximal femur fractures. Awareness and intraoperative preventive measures are key to minimizing the risk of this complication. We report a case of a patient who experienced an anterior cortical breach of the distal femur during routine antegrade nailing for an intertrochanteric fracture, which was attributed to a sclerotic lesion in the distal femur.

Objective: To explore clinical efficacy of unilateral and bilateral nail-rod system fixation in single-level intervertebral fusion fixation of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and instability with unilateral dual-channel spinal endoscopy.
Methods: The clinical data of 63 patients with LDH complicated with instability treated by unilateral double-channel spinal endoscopy from March 2021 to June 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. According to intraoperative fixation methods, the patients were divided into two groups, included unilateral nail rod system fixation group(unilateral group) and bilateral nail rod system fixation group(bilateral group).

Introduction: Preoperative anemia in orthopedic surgery is linked to adverse outcomes such as longer hospital stays, higher rates of blood transfusion, and increased risk of death. Effectively addressing and managing this condition is essential for improving patient outcomes and shortening the length of hospital stays. In Ethiopia and other low-income countries, studies on preoperative anemia and its impact on the length of hospital stay following orthopedic surgery are limited.

Introduction: Traumatic obturator-type anterior dislocation of the hip with an ipsilateral subtrochanteric fracture is rarely encountered in clinical practice. This case presentation described a trauma patient with such a rare scenario.
Case Report: This paper reports a case of a 20-year-old Amhara ethnic male patient who had a traumatic anterior dislocation of the hip associated with an ipsilateral subtrochanteric femur fracture after a truck rolled over.

Objectives: Distal femur fractures (DFF) are frequently treated surgically with single traditional constructs (STC), such as with a lateral plate or intramedullary nail, although nail-plate combination constructs (NPCC) are gaining attention. The purpose of this study is to compare outcomes between NPCC and STC for surgical fixation of DFF to guide surgeon decision-making.
Methods: Data Sources: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis using PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Science Direct, and SPORTDiscus from database inception until January 10th, 2024.

Objectives: To test the hypothesis that recently-developed total body-positron emission tomography (TB-PET) imaging with integrated computed tomography (CT) will enable low-dose, quantitative, domain-specific evaluation of the total inflammatory burden of psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and associate with established outcome measures of the clinical domains of PsA.
Methods: Seventy-one adult participants (40 with PsA, 16 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and 15 with osteoarthritis (OA)) underwent 20-min TB-PET/CT scans using [18F]FDG, a glucose analogue radiotracer. [18F]FDG uptake was assessed qualitatively and quantitatively.

Introduction: Intramedullary femoral nails (IMFNs) need to be removed for subsequent joint replacement, refracture, nonunion, or infection. The tools used to extract newer IMFNs may not be suited for removal of older implants, especially if broken. The purpose of this study was to describe a novel technique in femoral nail extraction when primary measures fail and a report on 6 cases where it was used.

Introduction: Septic nonunion is one of the most feared complications in traumatology. Two-stage management using the induced membrane technique is a validated treatment option, but to date there is no consensus on the ideal type of osteosynthesis for the second stage of surgery. The aim of this study was to compare the results of two-stage treatment of tibial septic nonunion, depending on the type of osteosynthesis used.

Purpose: Femur fractures are among the most common fractures treated surgically, representing a significant challenge for the orthopedic surgeon. Peri-implant femoral fractures (PIFFs) represent a rare complication of the surgical treatment. It is necessary to pay attention during osteosynthesis, evaluating not only the fracture site but the entire femoral skeletal structure, the characteristics of the fracture, the health comorbidities, and the risk of malunion and pseudarthrosis.

Methotrexate injections intralesionally as a treatment for psoriatic nails proved to be effective in large-scale studies as well as individual case reports, but the process is painful and time-consuming. The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of combined fractional CO2 laser (Fr. CO2) 10,600 nm and methotrexate gel versus methotrexate 1% gel alone in treatment of nail psoriasis.

Background: Post-radiation fractures (PRF) are a recognised complication of radiation treatment for soft tissue sarcomas. They have a low incidence and typically occur up to 5 years following treatment, more commonly affecting the pelvis, ribs and femur. Due to radiation-induced changes in bone, PRFs typically require more complicated intervention compared to post-trauma fractures, however, limited literature exists, particularly in regards to mid-shaft femoral PRFs.

Introduction: Hip fractures are common in elderly patients, often accompanied by comorbidities. These fractures can be combined with other injuries, such as a femoral head, neck, or shaft dislocation. The cause of this complex injury is not well-established, but factors like high-energy trauma or falls from a certain height may contribute.

The optimal period to start weight bearing after surgery is still under debate. The aim of this study was to compare immediate weight bearing (IWB) as tolerated with delayed weight bearing (DWB) following intramedullary fixationin elderly ITF patients.

Objective: Most current wound size measurement devices or applications require manual wound tracing and reference markers. Chronic wound care usually relies on patients or caregivers who might have difficulties using these devices. Considering a more human-centered design, we propose an automatic wound size measurement system by combining three deep learning (DL) models and using fingernails as a reference.

Background: Bone fractures remain a significant global public health issue despite preventive measures, leading to substantial health and economic consequences. Effective treatment options are difficult to access in most sub-Saharan African countries, leading to reliance on unqualified practitioners and resulting in serious complications that worsen poverty. In Nigeria, the main challenge is the need for out-of-pocket payment for healthcare, which is the primary method of health financing.

Background: To compare the efficacy of intramedullary nailing via the lateral parapatellar approach versus the infrapatellar approach in treating fractures at the tibial metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 45 patients with proximal or distal tibial fractures treated with intramedullary nailing via lateral parapatellar approach (n = 23) or infrapatellar approach (n = 22) between January 2019 and March 2023. We recorded and compared the operative time, intraoperative blood loss/fluoroscopies, success rate of closed reduction, anteroposterior and lateral entry point accuracy, postoperative infection, fracture healing time, as well as NRS pain scores, Lysholm knee function scores, and knee range of motion.
