Purpose: Femur fractures are among the most common fractures treated surgically, representing a significant challenge for the orthopedic surgeon. Peri-implant femoral fractures (PIFFs) represent a rare complication of the surgical treatment. It is necessary to pay attention during osteosynthesis, evaluating not only the fracture site but the entire femoral skeletal structure, the characteristics of the fracture, the health comorbidities, and the risk of malunion and pseudarthrosis.

Background: Post-radiation fractures (PRF) are a recognised complication of radiation treatment for soft tissue sarcomas. They have a low incidence and typically occur up to 5 years following treatment, more commonly affecting the pelvis, ribs and femur. Due to radiation-induced changes in bone, PRFs typically require more complicated intervention compared to post-trauma fractures, however, limited literature exists, particularly in regards to mid-shaft femoral PRFs.

Introduction: Hip fractures are common in elderly patients, often accompanied by comorbidities. These fractures can be combined with other injuries, such as a femoral head, neck, or shaft dislocation. The cause of this complex injury is not well-established, but factors like high-energy trauma or falls from a certain height may contribute.

Objective: Calcaneal fracture fixation remains a challenging procedure in orthopedics, with computational tools increasingly aiding in the optimization of preoperative planning. To compare the biomechanical stability of intramedullary fixation and locking plate fixation for Sanders II and III calcaneal fractures by three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis and to provide a theoretical basis for clinical application.
Methods: The Computed Tomography (CT) images were segmented using Mimics software (Materialise NV, Belgium) to identify the region of interest based on threshold segmentation.

Background: FGFR2 fusions or rearrangements occur in 13%-20% of patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA). Pemigatinib, a representative FGFR inhibitor, is commonly used for targeted therapy in such patients. Additionally, brain metastasis (BM) is extremely rare in advanced iCCA, and there is currently no standard treatment strategy for advanced iCCA patients with BM.

Objective: Most current wound size measurement devices or applications require manual wound tracing and reference markers. Chronic wound care usually relies on patients or caregivers who might have difficulties using these devices. Considering a more human-centered design, we propose an automatic wound size measurement system by combining three deep learning (DL) models and using fingernails as a reference.

Background: Bone fractures remain a significant global public health issue despite preventive measures, leading to substantial health and economic consequences. Effective treatment options are difficult to access in most sub-Saharan African countries, leading to reliance on unqualified practitioners and resulting in serious complications that worsen poverty. In Nigeria, the main challenge is the need for out-of-pocket payment for healthcare, which is the primary method of health financing.

Objective: To summarize the characteristics of posterior coronal banana-shaped fragments and its research progress in treatment of intertrochanteric femoral fracture with cephalomedullary nail, provide valuable reference for clinical practice.
Methods: Relevant domestic and foreign literature was extensively reviewed to summarize the history, anatomical structure of posterior coronal banana-shaped fragments, and the need for reduction and fixation, the influence on the stability of cephalomedullary nail, and the remedies.
Results: The posterior coronal banana-shaped fragments refers to the second level fracture line of the intertrochanteric femoral fracture, involving four anatomical structures, namely, the posterior part of the greater trochanter, the intertrochanteric crest, the lesser trochanter, and the posteromedial cortex.

Introduction: Antegrade intramedullary nail fixation for humeral shaft fractures yields satisfactory union rates. However, one of the related concerns is damage to the rotator cuff during nail insertion, which may affect long-term outcomes. The effect of a rotator cuff lesion on mid- and long-term shoulder outcomes remains unknown.

A 57-year-old man presented with a tibial shaft fracture treated with tibial intramedullary nail fixation and plate and screw fixation for fibular fracture. Two weeks postoperatively, the patient developed skin sloughing with exposed bone and metal at the fracture site. Three weeks postoperatively, a physical examination revealed swelling of the left lateral malleolus and lower leg, a skin defect of approximately 3 × 5 cm at the lower third of the left tibia with an exposed fracture site and hardware in between the fracture fragments.

It is unclear whether small plates are needed for augment fixation to provide a more stable mechanical environment in segmental fractures of the tibia treated with intramedullary nail. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of intramedullary nailing combined with locking plates in the treatment of segmental fractures of the tibia. This study included 41 patients with segmental tibia fractures between January 1, 2018 and January 1, 2023.

Objectives Pilonidal sinus is a recognized occupational condition sometimes seen in barbers and pet groomers, and it involves most commonly interdigital spaces. We present a previously unreported case of chronic paronychia with two separate digital pilonidal sinuses resulting from multiple embedded hair fragments in the eponychium of a dog groomer, who had been repeatedly treated with antibiotics with no success and ended up to surgical treatment. The objective of this study is to remind readers of this rare but possible occupational disease, particularly among employees working with hair, and to emphasize the importance of preventive measures to prevent its occurrence.

Acetabular cartilage delamination (ACD) can result in focal chondral defects, increasing contact stresses, and contributing to osteoarthritis. This is commonly associated with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), particularly with cam deformities due to shearing of the cam on the acetabulum. Additionally, ACD associated with labral tears or chondrolabral separation, when untreated, can compromise labral repair outcomes.

Introduction: Extra-articular deformity is that located proximal to the femoral epicondyles or distal to the neck of the fibula. In patients with gonarthrosis associated with extra-articular deformity, a different evaluation and approach will be necessary at the time of planning the arthroplasty. 3D planning and printing techniques have had a major impact on pre-operative planning, allowing the production of custom guides at low cost and in an accessible way.

Introduction: Delayed union, non-union, and unstable fixation can lead to fatigue fractures of orthopedic implants. Breakages typically occur at the fracture site or locking screw insertion, acting as stress concentration foci. This case report highlights a rare instance of a 3-part broken proximal femoral nail (PFN), extracted using a corticotomy-assisted method without knee joint violation.

Background: The anatomy of the proximal tibia presents treatment challenges, and there is currently no widely accepted surgical fixation method for fractures in this region. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy, benefits, and differences between intramedullary nailing (IMN) with a 4-hole Limited Contact Dynamic Compression Plate (LC-DCP) combination and IMN with an 8-hole LC-DCP combination in unstable fractures of the proximal metaphyseal region of the tibia.
Methods: An oblique fracture was created in the metaphyseal region, forming a 30-degree angle in the sagittal plane in three tibial models.
