Background: In the wake of emergence of antimicrobial resistance, bioactive phytochemical compounds are proving to be important therapeutic agents. The present study envisaged in silico molecular docking as well as in vitro antimicrobial efficacy screening of identified phytochemical ligands to the dispersin (aap) and outer membrane osmoporin (OmpC) domains of enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) and non-typhoidal Salmonella spp. (NTS), respectively.

The study was aimed at developing an accessible laboratory animal model to elucidate protective and pathological roles of immune mediators during Peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV) infection. It is because of the critical roles of type I IFNs in anti-viral defense, we assessed the susceptibility of IFN receptor knock out (IFNR KO) mice to PPRV infection. IFNR KO mice were exceedingly susceptible to the infection but WT animals efficiently controlled PPRV.

Background & Objectives: Issues such as emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food security, biosafety and biosecurity are associated with changes in land use, population growth, urbanization, global travel and trade and climate change. As a result, a trans-disciplinary approach among human, animal and environmental health disciplines gained support. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) decided to establish a National Institute of One Health at Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.

Department of Medicine, NKPSIMS and LMH, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.

Article Synopsis
  • Myiasis is a rare condition where fly larvae infest tissue, with oral myiasis being particularly uncommon due to the mouth's unfavorable environment for larvae.
  • The article presents two cases: a 75-year-old female with maggots in her lower lip post-maxillofacial trauma and an 18-year-old girl with swelling linked to cerebral palsy.
  • Management strategies emphasized prevention through good hygiene, addressing open wounds, controlling flies, and promoting sanitation and health education.

We describe the first report on spontaneous Avian Nephritis Virus (ANV) and Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) concurrent infection in broiler chicks. On necropsy, the kidneys were found swollen with its parenchyma and ureters stuffed with urate flakes. Histopathologically, the renal tubular damage and inflammatory response were severe in concurrently infected birds compared to the cases infected only with ANV, which had direct correlation with significantly (p < 0.

Purpose: Leptospirosis has wide clinical presentations often mimicking other illnesses, thus rapid and simple diagnostics will have facilitated the initial patient management and therapy compared to other inaccessible and laborious tests/assays.

Method: In this study, the sensitized latex beads coated with purified recombinant outer membrane (OM)-leptospiral surface antigen (Lsa27) lipoprotein of pathogenic Leptospira was evaluated as a diagnostic antigen in latex agglutination test (LAT) for the detection of anti-leptospiral antibodies in the human sera. The prepared rLsa27 latex beads were evaluated with the confirmed microscopic agglutination test (MAT) reactive (at 1:50) Leptospira-specific positive (n = 42) and non-reactive negative (n = 80) sera from human cases suspected of leptospirosis with the history of pyrexia of unknown origin.

High throughput in vivo laboratory models is need for screening and identification of effective therapeutic agents to overcome microbial drug-resistance. This study was undertaken to evaluate in vivo antimicrobial efficacy of short-chain antimicrobial peptide- Cecropin A (1-7)-Melittin (CAMA) against three multi-drug resistant enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (MDR-EAEC) field isolates in a Galleria mellonella larval model. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC; 2.

Visfatin is a highly conserved adipokine protein having multiple biological effects, including regulation of reproduction. Evidence in recent years has shown a pivotal role of visfatin in ovarian functions. The present study was conducted to evaluate the mRNA and protein abundance of visfatin in ovarian follicles and corpora lutea (CL) during different stages of their development in the ovary of water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) and to investigate the role of visfatin on estradiol (E) and progesterone (P) secretion.

The study evaluated the antimicrobial and antibiofilm efficacy of an antimicrobial peptide (AMP), lactoferricin (17-30) [Lfcin (17-30)], against biofilm-forming multi-drug-resistant (MDR) strains of enteroaggregative (EAEC), and subsequently, the antimicrobial efficacy was assessed in a larval model. Initially, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC; 32 μM), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC; 32 μM), and minimum biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC; 32 μM) of Lfcin (17-30) were determined against MDR-EAEC field isolates ( = 3). Lfcin (17-30) was tested stable against high-end temperatures (70 and 90°C), physiological concentration of cationic salts (150 mM NaCl and 2 mM MgCl), and proteases (proteinase-K and lysozyme).

Antimicrobial resistance against enteroaggregative (EAEC), an emerging food-borne pathogen, has been observed in an increasing trend recently. In the recent wake of antimicrobial resistance, alternate strategies especially, cationic antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have attracted considerable attention to source antimicrobial technology solutions. This study evaluated the antimicrobial efficacy of Indolicidin against multi-drug resistant enteroaggregative (MDR-EAEC) strains and further to assess its antimicrobial efficacy in larval model.

Adiponectin is an adipocyte derived cytokine implicated in energy homeostasis, insulin resistance and is involved in the regulation of reproduction both centrally and peripherally in animals. The present study was conducted to investigate adiponectin (ADIPOQ) and its receptors ADIPOR1 and ADIPOR2 abundance of mRNA transcript and protein in different stages of corpora lutea (CL) development during the estrous cycle of water buffalo and to determine the effect of adiponectin on cultured luteal cells of water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis). The results indicate adiponectin, ADIPOR1, and ADIPOR2 were present in buffalo corpora lutea (CL) throughout the estrous cycle.

Tick-borne pathogens (TBP) are a major source of production loss and a welfare concern in livestock across the globe. Consequently, there is a trade-off between keeping animals that are tolerant to TBP infection, but are less productive than more susceptible breeds. Theileria annulata is a major TBP of bovines, with different host types (i.

Adiponectin is an adipocyte-derived hormone regulating energy metabolism, insulin sensitivity and recently found to regulate reproduction. The current study was carried out to investigate gene and protein expression, immunolocalization of adiponectin and its receptors AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 in ovarian follicles of different developmental stages in water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) and to investigate the effect of adiponectin on steroid production in cultured bubaline granulosa cells. qPCR, western blotting and immunohistochemistry were applied to demonstrate mRNA expression, protein expression and immunolocalization, respectively.

Orientia tsutsugamushi, the causative agent of scrub typhus, is an obligate intracytosolic bacterium transmitted among humans and small mammals by some species of larval trombiculid mites (chiggers). It has been recognized as a pathogen of major public health concern in the Asia-Pacific region. As disease is considered as a neglected, there exists a gap in our knowledge of the disease with regard to the sporadic epidemiologic data in endemic areas.
