Older hospitalized patients undergoing hemodialysis are increasingly experiencing malnutrition caused by dysphagia. However, only a few studies have focused on this problem. Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has been a major concern worldwide; however, easily accessible treatment options for patients with mild COVID-19 remain limited. Since the oral intake of strain plasma (LC-Plasma) enhances both the innate and acquired immune systems through the activation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs), we hypothesised that the oral intake of LC-Plasma could aid the relief or prevention of symptoms in patients with asymptomatic or mild COVID-19.
Methods And Analysis: This is an exploratory, multicentre, double-blinded, randomised, placebo-controlled trial.

BACKGROUND Calcification in arteries is sometimes observed in patients undergoing hemodialysis; however, ectopic calcification in other organs is uncommon. In particular, diffuse liver calcification is very rare. We report a case of rapidly developing diffuse liver calcification in a patient undergoing hemodialysis.

Objective The quality of life and activities of daily living (ADL) are generally poor among dialysis patients after intracerebral hemorrhaging, and their precise clinical course remains unclear. In addition, the association between the severity of cerebral hemorrhaging and the long-term prognosis in these patients has not been fully elucidated. This study aimed to evaluate the subsequent prognosis of hemodialysis patients who survived the acute phase of intracerebral hemorrhaging.

Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is an X-chromosome recessive immunodeficiency disease characterized by the triad of thrombocytopenia, eczema, and susceptibility to infection owing to WAS protein gene abnormalities. Kidney transplantation is rarely offered to WAS patients with end-stage renal disease because of concerns that thrombocytopenia and immune disorders may affect the clinical outcome. Here, we report the case of a 20-year-old kidney transplant patient who developed end-stage renal disease owing to immunoglobulin (Ig)A nephropathy caused by WAS.

Aim: To examine the developmental and seizure outcomes after corpus callosotomy (CC) in early childhood.
Methods: We retrospectively identified 106 patients who underwent CC for drug-resistant epilepsy before the age of 6 years, at the Nagasaki Medical Center, between July 2002 and July 2016. Patients' developmental outcomes were evaluated one year after CC using the Kinder Infant Development Scale.

Bartter syndrome and Gitelman syndrome (GS) are autosomal recessive disorders usually caused by homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in causative genes. In some patients, these two syndromes cannot be discriminated based on clinical features or mutation type; thus, a single disease concept, salt-losing tubulopathies (SLTs), has been used instead. Despite the existence of several SLT causative genes, cases of digenic heterozygous mutations in two different genes are extremely rare.

Background/aims: To investigate the yearly change of real-world outcomes for best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) after 2-year clinical intervention for treatment-naïve diabetic macular oedema (DMO).
Methods: Retrospective analysis of aggregated, longitudinal medical records obtained from 27 retina specialised institutions in Japan from Survey of Treatment for DMO database. A total of 2049 treatment-naïve centre involving DMO eyes of which the initial intervention started between 2010 and 2015, and had been followed for 2 years, were eligible.

Introduction: Stomatitis is a frequent adverse event in patients undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Stomatitis can hamper oral nutrition resulting in malnutrition, reduce quality of life and introduce the need for dose reductions and interruption of chemotherapy; however, there is currently no standard approach for preventing chemotherapy-induced stomatitis. We aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of a dexamethasone-based elixir mouthwash for preventing chemotherapy-induced stomatitis in patients with early breast cancer.

An 87-year-old woman who had previously received bare nitinol self-expandable stent implantation twice into the bilateral common iliac artery (CIA) due to repeated in-stent restenosis presented with acute onset of intermittent claudication. Computed tomography (CT) showed bilateral CIA obstruction with thrombus. Because thrombectomy and ballooning did not achieve recanalization, kissing VBX balloon-expandable endoprostheses were deployed in both CIAs, which resolved the patient's symptoms.
