Introduction: Needle-track seeding of prostate cancer into the rectal wall following transrectal prostate biopsy is exceedingly rare. We report a case of mucinous prostate cancer recurrence in the rectal wall due to biopsy needle seeding, discovered after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.

Case Presentation: A 67-year-old man underwent robot-assisted radical prostatectomy for mucinous prostate cancer (clinical stage T2cN0M0, Gleason score of 4 + 4, and initial prostate-specific antigen level of 8.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study highlights how childcare leave can hinder the training of early-career psychiatrists in Japan, leading to the development of a teleoperated robot system (Sota) that allows them to learn remotely while on leave.
  • - A case study is presented where a young psychiatrist used Sota to observe and communicate with a board-certified psychiatrist during a patient examination, enhancing her learning about Tourette's syndrome while at home.
  • - The findings indicate that this teleoperated system is beneficial for ongoing professional development during childcare leave, and future research is encouraged to further assess its effectiveness and impact over time.

Article Synopsis
  • Medical care on isolated islands is challenging, but telepsychiatry may increase access to psychiatric services using video conferencing and the teleoperated robot "Sota 100" for nonverbal communication.
  • The case of a patient with alcohol use disorder illustrated how Sota 100 facilitated a conversation between the patient, a primary care physician, and a psychiatry specialist, leading the patient to recognize the need to stop drinking to improve health and relationships.
  • Findings suggest Sota 100 is a valuable tool for telepsychiatry in treating alcohol use disorder, and future studies should focus on detailed experimental designs to assess its effectiveness over time.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the characteristics and prognostic indicators of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in Nagasaki, Japan, focusing on how the location (sloped vs. accessible areas) affected outcomes.
  • Over a 10-year period with 4280 patients, the research found that prognosis was worse in sloped places, but these locations were not a significant prognostic indicator after analysis.
  • Factors such as age, bystander CPR, and first documented rhythm contributed more to survival chances, suggesting that improving bystander CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) usage could help in enhancing outcomes for OHCA in the region.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study in Vietnam used molecular techniques to identify species boundaries among jumping spiders, discovering 22 potential species, including 11 that were previously unknown.
  • * The research suggests that the diversification of these spiders occurred through gradual spread across the continent, with most new species emerging during the Pleistocene, contributing important biodiversity data in the region.

First discovery of the ant genus Borowiec, 2016 (Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Dorylinae) in the Oriental realm, with description of a new species from Vietnam.

Zookeys

Systematic Zoology Laboratory, Department of Biological Sciences, Graduate School of Science, Tokyo Metropolitan University, 1-1 Minami-Osawa, Hachioji, Tokyo, 192-0397, Japan Tokyo Metropolitan University Hachioji Japan.

The doryline ant genus Borowiec, 2016 currently contains only one valid species, (Forel, 1910) from southern Africa, with a considerable number of undescribed species awaiting formal description in the Afrotropical and Malagasy regions. In the present paper, is described based on workers and dealate queens from a colony series collected in an evergreen forest on the Dak Lak Plateau of Vietnam (Ea So Nature Reserve, Dak Lak Province). The worker of the new species is morphologically clearly distinguished from by the combination of following characteristics: i) frontal line distinct, extending a little beyond mid-length of cranium; ii) anterior (frontoclypeal) margins of torulo-posttorular complex not forming conspicuous lobes protruding over anterior clypeal margin in full-face view; iii) mandibles when closed in full-face view forming only a little space between anterior clypeal margin and mandibles; iv) promesonotal suture faint and inconspicuous; v) abdominal segment III in dorsal view distinctly wider than long, with lateral margins only feebly convex.

Introduction: Early diagnosis of patients with urolithiasis or hypouricemia owing to inborn errors of hypoxanthine metabolism is important in preventing renal failure or drug-induced toxicity.

Case Presentation: We identified three patients with xanthinuria using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-based urine metabolomics: a 72-year-old male with bladder stone, a severe hypouricemic 59-year-old female with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and an 8-year and 9-month-old female who was first discovered to harbor a mutation in the xanthine dehydrogenase gene using whole-exome sequencing, but had a normal molybdenum cofactor sulfurase gene. Hydantoin-5-propionate was detected in the first and third patients but not in the second, suggesting that the first and second patients had type I and II xanthinuria, respectively.

Aim: The rapid response system (RRS) was initially aimed to improve patient outcomes. Recently, some studies have implicated that RRS might facilitate do-not-attempt-resuscitation (DNAR) orders among patients, their families, and healthcare providers. This study aimed to examine the incidence and factors independently associated with DNAR orders newly implemented after RRS activation among deteriorating patients.

Background: Although thiamine deficiency (TD) can lead to Wernicke encephalopathy, the characteristics associated with TD in the elderly have not yet been clarified. We sought to clarify the frequency of TD among an institutionalized elderly population with a controlled dietary intake and to identify possible factors related to TD.

Method: We undertook a cross-sectional study of residents in three nursing homes for the elderly as of June 2020.

Desert dust and sandstorms are recurring environmental phenomena that are reported to produce serious health risks worldwide. This scoping review was conducted to identify the most likely health effects of desert dust and sandstorms and the methods used to characterize desert dust exposure from the existing epidemiological literature. We systematically searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Scopus to identify studies that reported the effects of desert dust and sandstorms on human health.

Reducing sodium content in foods is an important public health measure to reduce salt intake and decrease the incidence of noncommunicable diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease. This study quantified the amount of salt intake that could potentially be reduced by using umami substances, including glutamate, inosinate, and guanylate, without compromising taste, for adults in the United Kingdom (UK). We used data comprised of 1834 adults aged 20 years and over from the National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS RP) 2016/2017-2018/2019.

Despite the beneficial effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), they may also cause adverse events (AEs), especially cardiovascular toxicity. The incidence of TKI-induced AEs may vary among ethnic groups, and there is little specific information for Japanese patients. Sixty-nine consecutive patients who were started on treatment with dasatinib (n=25) or imatinib (n=44) for CML or gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) between December 2008 and December 2019 were retrospectively recruited to the study.

New diagnostics and treatment options for the radical cure of malaria are now available. At the 2019 annual meeting of the Vivax Working Group of the Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network, participants took part in a roundtable discussion to identify further evidence required to introduce these new tools into policy and practice. Key gaps identified were accuracy and reliability of glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase deficiency tests, health system capacity, and feasibility and cost effectiveness of novel treatment strategies in routine clinical practice.
