A Case of Peritoneal Dialysis-Related Peritonitis Due to Moraxella osloensis.

A 46-year-old woman on peritoneal dialysis (PD) had cloudy peritoneal dialysis effluent that had persisted for 10 days by the time she visited our hospital. The white blood cell count in the effluent was elevated to 1500/μL, leading to a diagnosis of peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis. Giant viruses are crucial for marine ecosystem dynamics because they regulate microeukaryotic community structure, accelerate carbon and nutrient cycles, and drive the evolution of their hosts through co-evolutionary processes. Previously reported long-term observations revealed that these viruses display seasonal fluctuations in abundance. However, the underlying genetic mechanisms driving such dynamics of these viruses remain largely unknown.

The lifecycle of schistosomes must be continuously maintained to clarify and understand this parasite in various aspects in laboratory settings. In the previous studies by other researchers, preservation of schistosome larvae or eggs was attempted by freezing with liquid nitrogen or organic chemicals, but frozen schistosomes were substantially impaired. The present study was conducted to determine whether schistosome eggs can be preserved under a non-frozen condition.

Methods: The REGISTA-K is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial that examined the efficacy and safety of SZC in uptitrating spironolactone without the occurrence of hyperkalemia or hypokalemia. A total of 266 patients with HFrEF and HFmrEF and hyperkalemia will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive either SZC or placebo after treating hyperkalemia with SZC at 25 sites in Japan.
