Background: Intussusception of the appendiceal endometriosis is rare. Although approximately 200 cases of appendiceal intussusception have been reported in the literature, very few have ever been diagnosed preoperatively. Here, we report the case of intussusception of the appendiceal endometriosis with laparoscopic ileocecal resection.

Introduction: Segmental spinal deformity results from vertebral compression fracture (VCF) and progressive collapse of the fractured vertebral body (VB). The VB stenting (VBS) system comprises a balloon-assisted, expandable, intrasomatic, metal stent that helps maintain the restored VB during balloon removal and cement injection, which minimizes cement leakage. We performed a prospective, multicenter, clinical trial of the VBS system in Japanese patients with acute VCF owing to primary osteoporosis.

This study assessed the risk perceptions among disaster relief nurses (DRNs) in Japan by focusing on 15 risk factors associated with frequent natural disasters and the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. We conducted a cross-sectional study that targeted DRNs across six prefectures in Japan and explored nurses' perceptions of risks including radiation exposure, volcanic eruptions, and mass infections. The findings indicated a heightened perception of radiation and nuclear-related risks.

Introduction: Controlling pulmonary complex (MAC) disease is difficult because there is no way to know the clinical stage accurately. There have been few attempts to use cell-mediated immunity for diagnosing the stage. The objective of this study was to characterize cytokine profiles of CD4+T and CD19+B cells that recognize various -associated antigens in different clinical stages of MAC.

Few reports have been made on the presentation and treatment of schwannomas originating in the sphenoid sinus due to their rarity. We report the case of a 60-year-old woman who presented with a cyst-like mass in the right sphenoid sinus on magnetic resonance imaging. Computed tomography showed a bone defect in the internal carotid artery (ICA) and enlargement of the round foramen on the affected side.

Background: Pediatric pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) introduction has directly and indirectly reduced pneumococcal pneumonia and invasive disease caused by PCV-covered serotypes among children and adults globally. In Japan, both PCV7 and PCV13 were introduced into the national immunization program (NIP) for children in 2013. However, the long-term impact of PCV use in children on adult pneumococcal pneumonia in Japan remains unclear.

Purpose: Regarding epidemiological studies, the role of vitamin D in musculoskeletal functionality (muscle weakness and physical performance) among elderly people is still controversial. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the associations between 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and physical performance among community-dwelling middle-aged and old Japanese men and women.
Methods: The subjects were community-dwelling 297 men and 415 women aged 50 years and over.

Background: Laboratory facilities for etiological diagnosis of central nervous system (CNS) infection are limited in developing countries; therefore, patients are treated empirically, and the epidemiology of the pathogens is not well-known. Tubercular meningitis is one of the common causes of meningitis, which has high morbidity and mortality, but lacks sensitive diagnostic assays. The objectives of this study were to determine the causes of meningitis in adult patients by using molecular assays, to assess the risk factors associated with them, and to explore whether biomarkers can differentiate tubercular meningitis from bacterial meningitis.

Attenuation of the secondary injury of spinal cord injury (SCI) can suppress the spread of spinal cord tissue damage, possibly resulting in spinal cord sparing that can improve functional prognoses. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is a haematological cytokine commonly used to treat neutropenia. Previous reports have shown that G-CSF promotes functional recovery in rodent models of SCI.
