Even though hospital admissions for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) decreased globally during the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, limited information is available on subsequent demographic trends in the number of cases and management of AMI through the first 12 months of the COVID-19 pandemic. We assessed demographic trends, patient characteristics, and AMI outcomes (n=730) during the first 12 months of the COVID-19 pandemic and compared them with corresponding months during the control period (February 2016-January 2020; n=2,742) using data from the Mie ACS Registry. Although a 25.

The rotator cuff (RC) is frequently torn at the enthesis composed of fibrocartilage. We aimed to histopathologically evaluate lining layers and assess the distribution of a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS)4, ADAMTS5, and microRNA (miR)-140s in the synovia of patients with RC tears. We recruited 51 patients who underwent arthroscopic surgical treatment for full-thickness rotator cuff tears, including 26 patients with < 3 cm tear size (group N) and 25 patients with ≥ 3 cm tear size (group W).

Article Synopsis
  • Hyperuricemia, defined as high levels of serum uric acid, was found in 25.2% of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) who underwent emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
  • Patients with hyperuricemia experienced higher rates of complications, including cardiogenic shock, and had significantly worse outcomes, such as suboptimal coronary flow and increased in-hospital mortality.
  • The study concluded that measuring serum uric acid levels at admission could help predict the risks of poor coronary flow and higher mortality in AMI patients.

We hypothesized that symptom presentation in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) may affect their management and subsequent outcome. Using Rural AMI Registry data, 1,337 consecutive patients with AMI who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention were analyzed. Typical symptoms were defined as any symptoms of chest pain or pressure due to myocardial ischemia.

Background: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration and premature acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, hereditary diseases may have regional characteristics, and few data are available regarding the prevalence of FH throughout particular regions in Japan. This study investigated the prevalence and prognosis of FH in patients with ACS in Mie Prefecture, Japan.

There has been no previous prospective study evaluating 3-month dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after cobalt-chromium everolimus-eluting stent (CoCr-EES) implantation in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The STOPDAPT trial is a prospective multi-center single-arm study evaluating 3-month DAPT duration in all-comer population after CoCr-EES implantation. Among 1525 study patients enrolled from 58 Japanese centers, the present study compared the 1-year clinical outcomes between ACS patients (N = 487) and stable coronary artery disease (CAD) patients (N = 1038).

Background: Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is useful for assessing the functional significance of coronary artery stenosis, even in lesions with prior myocardial infarction (pMI). Instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR) is a vasodilator-free alternative for the physiological assessment of coronary artery stenosis. In addition, iFR shows good diagnostic agreement with FFR and an iFR-guided revascularization strategy was non-inferior to an FFR-guided revascularization strategy.
