Transverse testicular ectopia is a condition in which a testicle crosses the midline and descends through the contralateral inguinal canal, with both testes in the same scrotal compartment. It is reported to be present in about 2% of persons who present with non-palpable testicles. Most transverse testicular ectopia patients undergo orchiopexy in early childhood; however, in rare cases, they are diagnosed in adulthood upon detection of testicular tumors.

Purpose: Thermal rheology (TR) fluid, which comprises polyethylene (PE) particles, their dispersant, and solvent, is a material that increases in viscosity to various degrees depending on the type and ratio of these constituents when its temperature rises. The viscosity of type 1 (TRF-1) increases more than that of type 2 (TRF-2) near rabbit body temperature. This preliminary animal study aimed to determine the basic characteristics and embolic effect of TR fluid by comparing TRF-1 and TRF-2.

In Japan, falls from height result in the second highest trauma mortality rate after traffic motor vehicle collisions and the highest trauma-related mortality rate amongst young people. We aimed to identify factors that worsen injury severity and lower survival probability of patients who fell from height and to contribute to the improvement of their prehospital and in-hospital care. This retrospective analysis retrieved hospital records of 179 patients aged ≥ 15 years who were transported to our hospital after a fall from height during April 2014-March 2020.

Background: Anderson-Fabry disease (AFD) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder resulting from a mutation of alpha-galactosidase A gene (), causing deficiency in alpha-galactosidase activity. The enzyme deficit can lead to storage of globotriaosylceramide in various organs including heart. Studies suggest that vasospastic angina (VSA) is associated with AFD.

Introduction: Intraspinal facet cysts resistant to conservative treatment are treated surgically. Surgical treatment was generally resection and decompression, but complications of dural tear and recurrence sometimes occurred. We present good clinical results and rapid spontaneous resolution following treatment of five cases of lumbar intraspinal facet cyst after lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF).

To screen for additional treatment targets against tongue cancer, we evaluated the contributions of extracellular signal-related kinase (ERK), AKT and ezrin in cancer development. Immunohistochemical staining showed that ERK and ezrin expressions were significantly higher in invasive squamous cell carcinoma than in carcinoma in situ. To investigate the roles of ERK and ezrin in cancer development, we used the non-woven silica fibre sheet Cellbed with a structure resembling the loose connective tissue morphology in a novel 3D culture system.

The wounds of full- and deep partial-thickness burns result in hypertrophic scars and lead to skin contracture more severely than those of superficial partial-thickness burns. Therefore, preventing burn progression may help improve the aesthetic and functional outcomes after healing. Although a number of studies have focused on elucidating the underlying mechanisms of and preventing burn wound progression, it is still difficult to rescue burned dermis unless early tangential excision is performed.

Background And Objectives: We conducted a dose-finding study for 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) administered with cisplatin (CDDP) and mitomycin C (MMC) to find an improved regimen for hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for advanced gastric cancer (GC).
Methods: The appropriate HIPEC regimen previously determined in vitro was 5-FU (200 µg/mL), MMC (2 µg/mL), and CDDP (10 µg/mL) at hyperthermic conditions (42°C) for 30 min. This was a clinical study to determine the recommended dose of 5-FU in combination with MMC and CDDP at 42°C for 30 min and to evaluate HIPEC safety in patients at high risk of developing peritoneal metastases following GC surgery.

Background: In patients with diabetes, albuminuria is a risk marker of end-stage renal disease and cardiovascular events. An increased renin-angiotensin system activity has been reported to play an important role in the pathological processes in these conditions. We compared the effect of aliskiren, a direct renin inhibitor (DRI), with that of angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) on albuminuria and urinary excretion of angiotensinogen, a marker of intrarenal renin-angiotensin system activity.

Non-O157 Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) strains are increasingly recognized as foodborne pathogens that trigger hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). The detection and isolation of these strains is important, but distinguishing their bacteriological profiles is difficult. A 2-year-old girl developed HUS with mild renal involvement 22 days after consuming barbecued meat.
