Unruptured cerebral aneurysms can cause visual dysfunction by compressing the optic pathways. However, there are no reports of an aneurysm at the A1 segment of the anterior cerebral artery compressing the optic tract. A 69-year-old male presented with progressive right homonymous hemianopsia, and radiological examinations revealed a large, partially thrombosed left A1 aneurysm compressing the left optic tract.

Aim: To identify factors associated with locomotive syndrome (LS) using medical questionnaire data and machine learning.
Methods: A total of 1575 participants underwent the LS risk tests from the third survey of the research on osteoarthritis/osteoporosis against disability study (ROAD) study. LS was defined as stage 1 or higher based on clinical decision limits of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association.

Cancer-related lymphedema represents a potential complication of cancer treatment. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the combination of lymphatico-venular anastomosis and liposuction in the treatment of secondary lymphedema. We present a retrospective analysis of patients affected by cancer-related unilateral limb lymphedema.

This study aimed to assess the subjective and objective image quality of low-dose computed tomography (CT) images processed using a self-supervised denoising algorithm with deep learning. We trained the self-supervised denoising model using low-dose CT images of 40 patients and applied this model to CT images of another 30 patients. Image quality, in terms of noise and edge sharpness, was rated on a 5-point scale by two radiologists.

Background: To examine the factors contributing to persistent and recurrent hemifacial spasms (HFS) following a microvascular decompression (MVD) procedure and to suggest technical improvements to prevent such failures.
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on fifty-two cases of repeat surgery. The extent of the previous craniotomy and the location of neurovascular compression (NVC) were investigated.

Odorants are detected by olfactory sensory neurons, which are covered by olfactory mucus. Despite the existence of studies on olfactory mucus, its constituents, functions, and interindividual variability remain poorly understood. Here, we describe a human study that combined the collection of olfactory mucus and olfactory psychophysical tests.

Clinical management of patients with fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) is a challenge, and there has been not an established treatment for FXTAS, which is now treated symptomatically. Diagnosis of coexistent idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) with FXTAS is also hard because clinical and imaging features can overlap between the FXTAS patients coexistent with and without iNPH. We present a 79-year-old male genetically diagnosed with FXTAS who was successfully treated by a shunt surgery and consequently diagnosed with iNPH, and suggest the management of coexistent iNPH with FXTAS when it is clinically suspicious.

Graft detachment after Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) is usually managed with air-bubbling. However, it is an invasive procedure, which can cause corneal endothelial reduction, and requires hospitalization and supine position maintenance. Only few case reports on graft reattachment in the prone position exist, and this is the first report from Japan.

Objective: Many patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) have reportedly fallen prior to diagnosis. However, there are no previous reports on the iNPH prevalence among the elderly with history of falls. This study investigated the effectiveness of screening for iNPH in elderly patients presenting after a fall.

Methods: Sixteen institutions in Japan participated in the study (trial registration number: UMIN000006510). Patients of age ≥ 18 years with histologically confirmed, previously untreated OCSCC (Union for International Cancer Control TNM Classification of Malignant Tumors 7th edition T1-2, node-negative no distant metastasis), with ≥ 4 mm (T1) depth of invasion, were randomly assigned to undergo standard selective ND (ND group; n = 137) or SLNB-navigated ND (SLNB group; n = 134).

Purpose: The descending branch of the left colic artery (dLCA) is under-recognized and has not been clearly defined. The dLCA is often confused with the sigmoid artery (SA) originating from the left colic artery (LCA). We clarified the anatomical characteristics of the dLCA and searched for surrogate measures to identify it.

Mechanical loading plays an important role in bone homeostasis. However, molecular mechanisms behind the mechanical regulation of bone homeostasis are poorly understood. We previously reported p130Cas (Cas) as a key molecule in cellular mechanosensing at focal adhesions.
