Incision of the dorsal side of the tendon sheath in release of De Quervain's tenosynovitis has traditionally been advocated to prevent the risk of volar tendon subluxation. We describe a novel technique of complete excision, rather than simple incision, of the first dorsal compartment tendon sheath. Over a 10-year period, 147 patients (154 wrists) underwent first dorsal compartment release using this technique of complete excision of the sheath.

Department of Radiology, NYU School of Medicine-NYU Langone Health, New York, NY (A.R., E.L., D.K.S., Y.W.L.); Meta AI, Facebook, 770 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10003 (M.J.M.); Stealth, New York, NY (T.M.); Department of Artificial Intelligence Research, Meta AI, Facebook, Menlo Park, Calif (A.S.); and Department Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering, Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Erlangen, Germany (F.K.).

Purpose: To explore the limits of deep learning-based brain MRI reconstruction and identify useful acceleration ranges for general-purpose imaging and potential screening.

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective study conducted from 2019 through 2021, a model was trained for reconstruction on 5847 brain MR images. Performance was evaluated across a wide range of accelerations (up to 100-fold along a single phase-encoded direction for two-dimensional [2D] sections) on the fastMRI test set collected at New York University, consisting of 558 image volumes.

Retapamulin activity against 53 isolates obtained from a mupirocin-resistant community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus pediatric disease cluster was evaluated using broth microdilution. All strains were susceptible to retapamulin with minimum inhibitory concentrations ≤ 0.5 μg/mL.

Allopurinol use and type 2 diabetes incidence among patients with gout: A VA retrospective cohort study.

Medicine (Baltimore)

August 2020

Rheumatology Section, Department of Medicine, VA NY Harbor Health Care System, NY Campus.

To assess the impact of allopurinol on diabetes in a retrospective cohort of Veterans' Affairs patients with gout. The New York Harbor VA computerized patient record system was searched to identify patients with an ICD-9 code for gout meeting at least 4 modified 1977 American Rheumatology Association gout diagnostic criteria. Patients were divided into subgroups based on >30 continuous days of allopurinol, versus no allopurinol.

The chapters and reports in this book explore a wide variety of topics related to how health literacy can impact clinical practice and public health. While health literacy is relevant to healthcare issues across populations, it has unique implications in the field of pediatrics, where parents and other caregivers are responsible for managing their child's healthcare. Younger children have varying roles and involvement; over time, as children reach adolescence, they have an increasing understanding of and participation in their healthcare.

Colchicine Use and Incident Coronary Artery Disease in Male Patients With Gout.

Can J Cardiol

November 2020

Section of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, VA New York Harbor Health Care System, New York, New York, USA; Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, NYU School of Medicine/NYU Langone Health, New York, New York, USA.

Background: Inflammation is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) and myocardial infarction (MI). Patients with gout are at increased risk of MI, and colchicine is associated with a reduced risk of MI. The objective of this study was to determine whether colchicine prevents incident development of CAD in patients with gout.

Artificial intelligence (AI) shows tremendous promise in the field of medical imaging, with recent breakthroughs applying deep-learning models for data acquisition, classification problems, segmentation, image synthesis, and image reconstruction. With an eye towards clinical applications, we summarize the active field of deep-learning-based MR image reconstruction. We review the basic concepts of how deep-learning algorithms aid in the transformation of raw k-space data to image data, and specifically examine accelerated imaging and artifact suppression.

Background And Purpose: The effects of multiple head impacts, even without detectable primary injury, on subsequent behavioral impairment and structural abnormality is yet well explored. Our aim was to uncover the dynamic changes and long-term effects of single and repetitive head injury without focal contusion on tissue microstructure and macrostructure.

Materials And Methods: We introduced a repetitive closed-head injury rodent model ( = 70) without parenchymal lesions.
