Dr. Lyddy: Assistant Professor, Department of Management, Providence College, Providence, RI. Mr. Schachter: Research Associate, Clinical Research, NYU Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Reyer: Research Associate, Clinical Research, NYU Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Julliard: Assistant Director, Clinical Research, NYU Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY.

Introduction: Mindfulness training is now commonly offered as professional development for health care practitioners. Understanding how health care practitioners adopt mindfulness practices is limited, which poses a hurdle to the development of effective mindfulness training programs. To explore how health professionals use and perceive mindfulness practices at work, we conducted an exploratory qualitative study at a large multicomponent inner-city health system.

Introduction: Cigarette smoking is the single greatest preventable cause of disease and death. Our literature review highlights the increased risk of cigarette smoking and kidney cancer, bladder cancer and prostate cancer.

Material And Methods: Smoking cessation improves outcomes at all stages of these disease processes, where patients who quit for 10-20 years appear to obtain a similar risk as those who have never smoked, even after diagnosis of disease.

Smoking-related genitourinary cancers: A global call to action in smoking cessation.

Rev Urol

January 2016

Division of Urology, Department of Surgery, NYU Lutheran Medical Center, NYU School of Medicine, NYU Langone Health System New York, NY.

Smoking is a known modifiable risk factor in the development of genitourinary malignancies. Although the association has long been supported by numerous research studies, the impact of smoking cessation on the decreased risk of genitourinary malignancies is less well studied. PubMed databases were searched using the terms smoking, smoking cessation, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, penile cancer, testicular cancer, their synonyms, and also targeted manual searches to perform a literature review in order to summarize the benefits of cessation on disease progression and patient outcomes including survival and morbidities.

Investigations, findings, and follow-up in patients with chest pain and elevated high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T levels but no myocardial infarction.

Int J Cardiol

April 2017

Department of Emergency Medicine, Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, Stockholm, Sweden; Department of Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Electronic address:

Background: Elevated troponin levels, in patients without myocardial infarction (MI), are associated with increased mortality. In an observational cohort study we aimed to assess how patients with elevated high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) levels, and no MI are investigated and followed up, compared to patients with MI.

Methods: During January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012, all patients >25years of age, with chest pain and elevated hs-cTnT levels or MI, at the Karolinska University Hospital were included.

Purpose: Our objective is to identify the effect of prothrombin complex concentrate (PCC) in acute intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) by evaluating intraparenchymal hematoma expansion between initial and follow-up head CT at 5-24 h, in those with positive CTA spot sign (CTASS). CTASS is an independent predictor of hematoma growth (1). Acute ICH, regardless of etiology, can present with quick mental status decline often resulting in irreversible brain damage.

Background: Delayed maturation of arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) among patients who require hemodialysis (HD) can lead to catheter sepsis with its resultant morbidity and mortality. Some have proposed that sequential balloon-assisted maturation (BAM) may accelerate the maturation times of these accesses. On the other hand, serial balloon angioplasty of normal vein may result in stenosis and delay maturation.

The human energy field (HEF) as a phenomenon of interest across disciplines has gained increased attention over the 20th and 21st centuries. However, a concern has arisen that there is a lack of evidence to support the concept of the HEF as a phenomenon of interest to professional nurses and nursing practice. Using Chinn and Kramer's method of creating conceptual meaning, a concept analysis was conducted for the purpose of developing a conceptual definition of HEF.

Bladder Leiomyosarcoma: A Rare, but Aggressive Diagnosis.

Curr Urol

October 2016

Department of Urology, NYU Lutheran Medical Center, NYU Langone Health System, New York, N.Y., USA.

It remains evident in the literature that leiomyosarcomas of the bladder have continuously been regarded as highly aggressive tumors associated with a poor prognosis. Immediate surgical therapy by radical cystectomy with wide margins is warranted as an effective treatment modality and has been associated with longer survival rates. Herein, we present the case of a high-grade leiomyosarcoma primarily treated with anterior pelvic exenteration and urinary diversion.

Introduction: There is an association between obesity and more complicated diverticular disease. We hypothesize that this link may be due to an increased level of visceral fat rather than an elevated body mass index alone. Adipose tissue secretes inflammatory cytokines, and chronic inflammation may account for the link between obesity and a more severe presentation of diverticular disease.

Unexplained rhabdomyolysis after eating fish is a rare condition caused by an unidentified toxin. Most of the incidences in the United States have been linked to consuming buffalo fish or crawfish.
