Purpose: The purpose of this study was 2-fold: 1) to investigate the age-related frequency, demographics and distribution of the middle-aged and geriatric orthopedic trauma population and 2) to describe the age-related frequency and distribution of hospital quality measure outcomes and inpatient cost.

Methods: All patients > 55 years of age who required orthopedic, trauma, or neurosurgery consults at 3 hospitals within an academic medical center from 2014 to 2017 were prospectively followed. On initial evaluation, each patient's demographics, injury severity, and functional status were collected.

Objective: Midterm patency results of iliac vein stents placed for nonthrombotic iliac vein lesions (NIVLs) are not widely known. Previously published studies involving large series of patients with iliac vein stent placement have failed to clearly demonstrate the outcomes for patients with NIVLs and advanced disease. To further study this issue, we reviewed our series of 268 iliac vein stents placed for NIVLs.

Objective: Endovenous thermal ablation has become the primary modality of treatment for patients with venous insufficiency. Previous literature has provided reviews of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) or endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) that mostly focus on the great saphenous vein (GSV) and small saphenous vein (SSV). Data with an extended review including the anterior accessory saphenous vein (ASV) and perforator veins (PVs) have been limited.

MRI-fusion biopsy: the contemporary experience.

Transl Androl Urol

June 2017

Department of Radiology, NYU Lutheran Medical Center, NYU Langone Health System, New York, NY, USA.

Advancements in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and MRI-ultrasound (US)-fusion targeted biopsy have resulted in a paradigm shift in the diagnosis of prostate cancer by overcoming the limitations of systematic biopsy. Prebiopsy MRI and MRI-US-fusion biopsy results in an increased detection of clinically significant disease, reduction in the detection of indolent disease, and allows for tumor localization during targeted biopsy. With these advantages, we have adopted a prebiopsy MRI and MRI-US-fusion biopsy diagnostic care pathway for all men at risk for prostate cancer and have performed more than 1900 biopsies to date.

J Glob Infect Dis

January 2017

Department of Medicine, NYU Lutheran Medical Center, New York University School of Medicine, Brooklyn Campus, Brooklyn, NY, USA.

Background: Hemodialysis (HD) patients are known to be vulnerable to infections. However, there are limited data on the urine microbiology spectrum among patients with end-stage renal disease and on the development of antimicrobial resistance of uropathogens in these patients.

Materials And Methods: A single-center, retrospective study was conducted to assess the spectrum and antimicrobial resistance profile of microorganisms isolated in urine cultures of HD patients who were hospitalized between September 2008 and August 2015 with an admitting diagnosis of fever, sepsis, or urinary tract infection.
