Vascular complications secondary to acute pancreatitis carry a high morbidity and mortality, often because of their hemorrhagic or thrombotic effects. When thrombosis presents, it is typically localized to the splanchnic venous system. In this report, we present a case of acute superior mesenteric artery thrombosis secondary to necrotizing pancreatitis after a laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Objective: Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is currently the gold standard in the operative management of carotid artery stenosis. While eversion and patch CEAs vary greatly in technique, various studies have determined equivalence with regard to clinical outcomes. However, the hemodynamic differences following each procedure are not known.

Normal development of the patella typically involves fusion of secondary ossification centers into a single bone during adolescence, with failure of fusion resulting in bipartite and tripartite patellae. In such variants, injury to incomplete ossification center fusion, though uncommon, has been reported to occur in the setting of traumatic quadriceps tendon rupture. The authors present a rare and complex case of traumatic bipartite fragment separation, patellar avulsion, and a complex partial quadriceps tendon tear confirmed surgically in a 36-year-old male.

Nurses and nursing assistants working at night on an inpatient unit are under signicant stress. Because mindfulness reduces stress and enhances workplace life, this qualitative study explored night shift staff attitudes toward brief group mindfulness practice. For 8 months, 3 times a week, the staff was called together at the nursing station around midnight and led through 2 to 5 minutes of guided mindfulness meditation.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has a well-known association with lymphoproliferative disorders of B and T cell origin. EBV-related B cell lymphoproliferative disorders include Hodgkin and Burkitt lymphomas, lymphomatoid granulomatosis, EBV positive diffuse large cell B cell lymphoma of the elderly, as well as B cell lymphomas associated with solid organ transplantation and methotrexate use. EBV-related T cell disorders are primarily represented by NK/T- cell lymphoma.

Introduction: Diagnostic laparoscopy (DL) is an increasingly used modality when approaching penetrating abdominal trauma (PAT). Trauma surgeons can utilize this minimally invasive technique to quickly assess for injury in hemodynamically stable patients. DL with a confirmed injury can be repaired through therapeutic laparoscopy (TL) or conversion to exploratory laparotomy (EL).

Kaposi's sarcoma is a fatal disease that typically presents with cutaneous manifestations in immunocompromised individuals. There are a small number of documented cases where patients diagnosed with this disease present without cutaneous lesions. We present a 35-year-old man with recurrent rectal abscesses and fistula-in-ano, which required multiple drainage procedures.

Introduction And Objective: To identify predictors of thirty-day perioperative complications after urethroplasty and create a model to predict patients at increased risk.
Methods: We selected all patients recorded in the National Surgery Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) from 2005 to 2015 who underwent urethroplasty, determined by Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes. The primary outcome of interest was a composite 30-day complication rate.

It is critically important to the evolving goals of prostate biopsy to find clinically significant cancer with lethal potential and avoid detection of indolent disease. Better tests and markers are required for improved detection of clinically significant prostate cancer and avoidance of biopsies in men with indolent disease. Currently, there are myriad alternative prostate cancer risk-assessment tests available derived from serum and urine that are designed to improve the specificity for detection of "significant" prostate cancer.

Background: While the combination of a pelvic mass, very high serum level of CA-125, chest adenopathy, and ascites is concerning for advanced-stage ovarian cancer, the etiology of such a presentation can be due to disseminated pelvic tuberculosis.
Case: A 67-year-old para 2 African-American woman presented with abdominal pain and shortness of breath. Subsequent CT and MR imaging demonstrated chest adenopathy, a pelvic mass, omental caking, and ascites.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the prostate after a prior negative biopsy may reduce the need for unnecessary repeat biopsies.
Objective: To externally validate a previously developed nomogram predicting benign prostate pathology on MRI/ultrasound (US) fusion-targeted biopsy in men with a Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) 3-5 region of interest and a prior negative 12-core systematic biopsy, and update this nomogram to improve its performance.
Design, Setting, And Participants: A total of 2063 men underwent MRI/US fusion-targeted biopsy from April 2012 to September 2017; 104 men with a negative systematic biopsy followed by MRI-US fusion-targeted biopsy of a PI-RADS 3-5 region of interest (58%) met the study inclusion criteria.

Stent thrombosis is a potentially life threatening condition caused by several factors or a combination factors, such as resistance to platelet agents and type of anticoagulation used as well as stent types. We report a case of acute thrombosis and discuss potential areas of intervention with literature review.
