South Asians (SAs) underutilize mental health services compared to many racial and ethnic groups in the United States (US), yet there is limited research on the experiences of SAs living with severe mental illness (SMI). This study examined psychiatric healthcare experiences of SA patients with SMI diagnoses (e.g.

Introduction: The seemingly inexorable rise of opioid-related overdose deaths despite the reduced number of COVID-19 pandemic deaths demands novel responses and partnerships in our public health system's response. Addiction medicine is practiced in a broad range of siloed clinical environments that need to be included in addiction medicine training beyond the traditional fellowship programs. Our objective in this project was to implement a knowledge-based, live virtual training program that would provide clinicians and other healthcare professionals with an overview of addiction, substance use disorders (SUD), and clinical diagnosis and management of opioid use disorder (OUD).

Introduction: Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding stemming from malignant tumors is increasingly recognized, due to advancements in oncology and detection methods. Traditional endoscopic hemostatic techniques have shown variable success rates in managing hemorrhagic GI neoplasms. Hemospray, an emerging endoscopic hemostatic powder, offers promise in treating upper GI bleeding, potentially extending its utility to neoplastic bleeding sites.

Background: Prompt identification of large vessel occlusion (LVO) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is crucial for expedited endovascular therapy (EVT) and improved patient outcomes. Prehospital stroke scales, such as the 3-Item Stroke Scale (3I-SS), could be beneficial in detecting LVO in suspected patients. This meta-analysis evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of 3I-SS for LVO detection in AIS.

Objective: In people with chronic kidney disease (CKD), hyperphosphatemia is a risk factor for mortality. Though unproven, dietary phosphorus control is considered essential in CKD. Although dietary and serum phosphorus are correlated, phosphorus from plant foods rich in phytate is less bioavailable than from animal and processed foods.

Pseudoaneurysms of the middle rectal artery are rare. When encountered, these have the potential for significant morbidity and mortality due to bleeding and potential rupture. Endovascular embolization is a feasible option in the management of these pseudoaneurysms.

Medical imaging, particularly fetal MR imaging, has undergone a transformative shift with the introduction of 3 Tesla (3T) clinical MR imaging systems. The utilization of higher static magnetic fields in these systems has resulted in remarkable advancements, including superior soft tissue contrast, improved spatial and temporal resolution, and reduced image acquisition time. Despite these notable benefits, safety concerns have emerged, stemming from the elevated static magnetic field strength, amplified acoustic noise, and increased radiofrequency power deposition.

Background: Offering medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) in carceral settings significantly reduces overdose. However, it is unknown to what extent individuals in jails continue MOUD once they leave incarceration. We aimed to assess the relationship between in-jail MOUD and MOUD continuity in the month following release.

Background: Annually since 2008; over 38% of fatally injured motorcycle riders and 20% of pedalcyclists involved in traffic crashes were under the influence of alcohol, yet public health surveillance of alcohol involvement in these injuries is underdeveloped. This study determined alcohol involvement among fatally and non-fatally injured pedalcycle and motorcycle riders and compared findings across three national public-use datasets.
Methods: Using the 2019 National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS), the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), and National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) datasets, we identified alcohol involvement in fatal and non-fatal injuries to pedalcycle and motorcycle riders (≥21 years).
Colonic lymphangiomas are rare and mostly incidental findings found on colonoscopy. It is important to be able to differentiate them from other lesions, such as lipomas. Furthermore, when in close proximity to the appendiceal orifice, such as cecal lesions, they must be differentiated from mucocele and carcinoid tumors.

Aortic dissection (AD) is a catastrophic life-threatening cardiovascular emergency with a 1-2% per hour mortality rate post-diagnosis, characterized physiologically by the separation of aortic wall layers. AD initially presents as intense pain that can then radiate to the back, arms, neck, or jaw along with neurological deficits like difficulty in speaking, and unilateral weakness in some patients. This spectrum of clinical features associated with AD is often confused with acute myocardial infarction, hence leading to a delay in AD diagnosis.

The relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and depression presents a significant area of medical concern, characterized by a higher incidence of depression among T2DM patients compared to the general population. This connection is not only evidenced in the prevalence of depressive symptoms in diabetic patients but also in the way these symptoms impact diabetes management. Furthermore, the influence of antidiabetic medications, especially sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, on depression risk is a topic of ongoing research, with contrasting findings regarding the effects of drugs like metformin and pioglitazone.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) or benign intracranial hypertension affects the neuro-ophthalmological system and leads to elevated intracranial pressure. Elevated opening pressure during lumbar puncture is diagnostic of IIH. Here in, we present an interesting case of a 15-year-old girl, recently immigrated and with a high BMI, presenting with recurrent fever, abdominal issues, weight loss, and other symptoms, leading to a diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and HIV infection.

Antibiotics are among the most common causes of drug-induced liver injury worldwide. Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid and nitrofurantoin are the most common culprits while tetracyclines are a rare cause of liver injury. Among tetracyclines, minocycline has been reported more frequently than doxycycline, which is an extremely rare cause of drug-induced liver injury.
